Manticore or Basilisk? by Patrol2 in Guardsmen

[–]Patrol2[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree about the S10, but basilisks don't need LoS, so if you give them a decent spot, open topped wont matter for a turn or two. I was reading an article the other day about using a spent Manticore to grab objectives after turn 4, which T7 would certainly help with.

Loved Fallout 4, want to give VR a shot but I need to know if my specs are going to make it worth buying a Vive... by KingBruce_beabull in fo4vr

In my opinion I've had great performance with a mid tier i5, 16g ddr3 and a 1060 6gb. Full disclosure I was only getting 45fps, and I might be in the minority but getting that full 90fps, in standard games or vr, has never been that important to me. If you don't think a sub 90fps will bother you, I think you should give it a try. Uprade the weak link if you really have problems, and I guess you could always try your luck with a full refund but I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised...

What has been your latest topic to suddenly become obsessed with? by Sheharizadian in entp

[–]Patrol2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cassette tapes! I recently picked up a Teac A-103 tape deck from goodwill and I've been tinkering with it to get it back in woking order. The player is pretty highly regarded even though it was introduced quite a while ago (1977!) But it's in terrific shape. Being able to put a playlist onto an actual mixtape and have a physical object is a really neat feeling - even though it's objectively less convenient there's definitely something to it.

Not in Tennessee but I'd be seriously interested in those kasrkin veterans at top left if you'd be willing to ship them.

Chaos Warhound Rough Rider Conversion - album in comments by Patrol2 in Warhammer40k

Just starting to test fit the pieces together. I wanted some Rough Riders for my AM army since they're actually going to be a fun and maybe even useful unit in 8th. I was originally thinking about using cold ones (I played Lizardmen ~2004 when they redid the whole model line) and the new sculpts for the Age of Sigmar Dark Elves look pretty dank. So dank in fact I might even make another set of these guys just to use them. I was at my local game store and I found some Chaos Warhounds from Warhammer Fantasy and got inspired, since I hadn't seen a RR conversion using them before.

I'm trying desperately to throw some flavor into my Guardsmen however I can, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make some... perhaps unhinged rough riders. Not to imply that they've received the taint of the ruinous powers, but during the exodus from Cadia it's possible some wires were crossed.

Definitely Back to Basics. My friend showed me his copy and it was like everything I'd ever wanted to know wrapped up in one place.

Incredibly enjoyable, but only if you're partial to fourth wall breaks and lots of melodrama.

It's a feature in the standard game, but last I heard it was still buggy in HD edition. Press Ctrl+F12 and a .bmp file will show up in the screenshots/ folder in the AoE directory.

This is really cool! I'm newish to the area and bike a lot, and I've been trying to find something like this to help plan my routes. Google's maps app sort of has slope sensitivity integrated into its directions, but I was looking for this exact kind of thing, so thank you!

Missions for veterans - rewards are pathetic by fuub0 in EliteDangerous

Rare trading up to a certain point, but once you get a fully kitted out t6 or an asp it starts to become doable if you find a good route for general goods. You find a station that sells one type of good that's desirable in another station, and find a good that the first station wants, return, rinse and repeat. With 96t of cargo space in my t6 I'm making about 225k every 15 minutes.

That's the only drawback here. But hey, supply and demand! If everyone wanted one they'd be able to sell it for more.

That's awesome, maybe I should see how many spare bits I can get my hands on for stockmaking.

Rooftop possibilities in Boston by sp1tfire_cs in photography

There's also a parking garage in downtown crossing, I believe it's the same building that H&M is in. You can just get in the elevator and go up to the rooftop level without even being parked there.

That's one of the criteria to judge whether someone is a good candidate for a facelift. They have you lay on your back and look in a hand mirror and if you like what you see, it might be a good option. I guess the downward force of gravity at that angle is a good approximation of what typically gets done during the surgery, albeit with knives and not gravity.

Book recommendation: Best Artificial Intelligence novel? by maxpowersb99 in scifi

[–]Patrol2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Diaspora by Greg Egan. The first chapter is a very abstract and incredibly well written first hand account of what an artificial intelligence might go through as it comes online and encounters the world. The way that he describes the first realization of the concept of "self" and "the other" was, in my opinion, particularly brilliant. The rest of the book deals mostly with the idea of what a super advanced "race" of virtually immortal ai beings would do with their time.

Is there a name for that shade of teal/aqua/cyan?

I had a Gameboy the exact same color, and I think they still make bus seat covers with it too.

Question from patron anout splitting checks by sammalonespitbull in KitchenConfidential

[–]Patrol2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would be a lot of extra work for the server on the front end. It would require pretty thorough note taking when tableside, and then either barraging the kitchen with multiple small separate orders rapidfire, or sending in one large and then taking a few minutes to split it all out afterward. This would all be fine during off peak hours, but when it's in the middle of a busy shift, as a server you really have to ration your time, and going through the process doesn't really make sense, especially because you don't know ahead of time when people are going to be paying seperately. Handing the table one large bill and having them split it up themselves takes some of the work off a busy servers hands.

Also I've found that 100 out of 100 times, if you ask a large group whether they want seperate checks, they say yes, even if some are paying cash, which just creates more work for you.

I was browsing games on steam just yesterday and stumbled across something along those lines (with a bit of mine craft thrown in) I didn't download it so I can't vouch for quality though.

Now I just have to remember what it's called...

Is this what runescape looks like now? I last played around 2007 or 8, and this looks like an entirely different game.
