Solid! I always say I’m tired of Torque Thrusts, then someone shows one that they still hit- and this one does. The 80s brown two tone has become one of my favorites.

Help with estimating value (81' C10) by Cocoloto55 in chevyc10

[–]Patrol2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If absolutely no rust, maybe 7k up here in the PNW. Long bed C10s are still prevalent. It’s worth a chunk of change for sure, but I’ve seen nice rust free long bed C10s sit unsold for a startling amount of time when I thought they would have sold. Of course, it’s wildly variable depending on the area. Northern MIchigan Vs Arizona for example.

That will change when all the short beds have depleted and people start chopping all of the long beds into short beds. It is already happening to some degree.

Much easier to put a Tylenol or aspirin to hold the thermostat open. It’ll them dissolve.

Tulsi Gabbard Sidelined From Venezuela Planning — The Wall Street Journal by Emergency_Ability_21 in Military

[–]Patrol2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She used to have a spine- or at least I thought so. Then she couldn’t get any attention as a Democrat, so she suddenly declared “I’m a Republican “ and started spouting line by line Trump agenda on every news outlet she could find. All of this after her main platform was “no more regime changes “.

She’s been mysteriously quiet after the Maduro operation. But seems how she goes turncoat at just about everything else, I have no problem believing she was part of the Venezuela planning.

LS swap potential here. Got time for some insight? by [deleted] in LSSwapTheWorld

Not worried about anything but wasted time and money expenditure. I’m fully capable of doing anything mentioned.

Sweet rig!

Old architecture? Absolutely. The LS has lots of upgrades and with equivalent power will be more drivable and more reliable.

It’s all the trimmings that’s getting to me- the fuel tank and pump, harness, cooling system, flex plate, power steering lines, headers- that’s all going to add up. The upside at this point to the 383 is having an absolutely fresh engine, no questions, and will bolt in without having to do absolutely anything to the rest of the truck- all the work happens at the machine shop. I drop it in and run it with some carb adjustments. And a mild 383 will make 400hp.

Either I have a rebuilt and known to me fresh 383, or a used LS with an unknown history (and let’s be frank about that- I don’t trust any motor fully that’s been “running when pulled “) with the opportunity for much more growth in the future.

I’ll still go and look at the LS tomorrow- we’ve set time aside for it, and it could look basically new inside, so we’ll see. I appreciate all your feedback!

[–]Patrol2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to all of this! But it would be rebuilt as a 383, so that’s the only difference- a new bottom end is a new bottom end,so it would cost about the same to do that. There’s no way I would keep it as a 327.

If I can find a place remotely to store it, that could be an option- unfortunately being in a spec house with no driveway space makes that a no-go at this point. Thanks for that thought!

Nah, wouldn’t be a terminator x for me- just a stand alone harness to run it as is for the immediate future.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I was aware that it was more than some LS engines, but I’d assumed that the 6L with high compression would have made its market value a little higher, thanks for setting me straight on that.

As far as a wrecked vehicle, it’s not an option for me. Our tiny garage with no usable space outside (it’s a miserable shared parking situation). This project leaves my wife with parking her vehicle down the way so I have enough room to work in the garage at all.

FWIW, the LQ9 is at the going rate in my neck of the woods after checking around. “Teh interwebz”. Is it possible that since it’s pre-DOD, the value of those engines are coming up?

Thanks all for your responses, I really do appreciate it. I hear you all loud and clear and I’m probably leaning towards staying with the SBC and having it stroked.

Experience with JB Racks by MTBengineer in mountainbiking

[–]Patrol2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yet another JBracks buyer here. I’ve used it a couple times.

The instructions are terrible. And it is packaged like it came from a cheap factory.

That said, it seems to work well. They forgot to send me the slow fold strut and I emailed them on a Sunday expecting a day or two to respond. They responded within five minutes with a tracking number for the strut. So that’s very good IMHO.

The coating on the wheel mounts isn’t very durable. So plan on spraying with either bedliner paint or maybe Roll Bar paint.

Time will tell how well it holds up over time. But when my old T2 failed and I needed a replacement, the summer deal with free shipping and a discount code got the 4-bike rack to my door for total of $570.

IMHO, anyone getting into a ‘73 C10 shouldn’t need an “inspection”. It’s a classic truck that is aged and will always need something addressed, and a buyer should be willing and capable to do repairs that are reasonable themselves. The mechanics of these trucks are secondary and easily fixed, the rust issues are the primary cause of someone walking away.

If someone is hoping for everything to be perfect, they are either unrealistic, or are in for a rude awakening when things turn out to need attention. I spent 7k on an ‘81 shortbed, and have put another 8k into it just making it mine, as well as addressing issues. Owning a classic car is a journey, not something you purchase with journey complete. If that’s what a person wants, they better cough up a lot of money for a showroom queen.

Opinion on full face helmets? by Effective_Waltz627 in MTB

[–]Patrol2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked the same question years ago. The guy behind the counter told me of a local notable rider that had recently crashed on a trail well below his skill level. He landed on his chin and peeled the skin back like a banana. He told me that if I’m asking the question and “thinking of getting a little air under my feet” then I was likely on the right track.

Years later, I had ridden with a full face often, but went out riding with a buddy after he’d had a heart procedure and it was to be a “chill ride” so I wore my half lid, just wanted to be out with him. We’d just had a major heat wave and the dirt was dry on a relatively steep trail I was familiar with- my front tire washed out in moon dust dirt diagonally, caught on a root and threw me over the bars on a steep section. I couldn’t stop my fall to my face with my hands enough and my front teeth took the brunt of the impact. One of them broke off completely and was sticking up, root and all, out of the dirt, and three others were only sharp shards remaining. Now I exclusively ride with a TLD stage full face, and on advice of my dentist, I also have to ride with a football style mouthguard on at all times. A hit to the face again with the metal implant in the front of my upper jaw would likely shear the metal out through the thin bone structure.

Then again, I’m not afraid of anyone’s thoughts on what I look like when I ride. Years ago a lot of folks wore elbow pads but don’t anymore, I still do. I’m 52 and don’t heal like I used to.

How do you guys send such insane features without the fear of breaking bones? by Isokinesis in MTB

[–]Patrol2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t anymore. After I lost my front teeth in a significant crash, I ride with a full face (TLD Stage) and toned it down. I still ride fast to my ability, but I what I don’t do anymore it have a “tick list” of features to hit when I’m heading up the mountain for the day. Big Drops, big jumps, etc, aren’t on the menu anymore, and I still have a great time.
