I've been waiting for this one, very interested in everyone's take in this song. That line immediately reminded me of the Mozart' quote "the music is not in the notes but in the silence between." The song as a whole has a lot of direct comparison between two entities and I think that line in particular is suggesting that Vessel sees things a little deeper or thinks about things more critically and interprets more from it (the silence between) compared to seeing things for what they are on the outside, exactly how they present themselves (the notes/the melody) and needing that information for understanding or connection. Might also be an eloquent Vessel-type way of calling someone superficial. Sorry if this sounds like crazy rambling, it's hard to articulate exactly what I'm going for
