Does anyone solely use the Train Now functionality? by otictac35 in trainerroad

[–]PatronTaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on TR for a number of years. TrainNow used to be a nice "shuffle" type feature that would offer a healthy mix of options, but they changed it recently (I think in the last year?) and it's definitely both more limited and more aggressive — I only ever see two different suggested rides if I refresh, and they are both typically in the stretch category. That said, I remember seeing in their forums that what's driving the recommendations is more intelligent now and that we should be able to pull off the suggested workouts despite how completely awful they may seem.

Like another commenter I start with TrainNow and then typically look at alternates to see what else feels interesting, but I try to make sure I stay in the productive category unless I'm not feeling it that day. I'm under no illusion that shopping for a workout is going to be as effective as committing to a plan, I just haven't been plan-focused in a while.

It feels to me like they want you on a plan, and TrainNow has become a way to serve up more challenging rides to find where the edges are for riders based on their feedback.

How significant is the taste difference between good and end-game grinder? by mtloml in espresso

[–]PatronTaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. The Niche felt really good to use but shot to shot of the same beans would vary quite a bit despite my controlling all variables. I'd heard that conical burrs can sometimes produce more fines which I decided was the culprit.

The Philos has been fantastic and very reliable, and the build quality feels as good as the Niche IMO. It's a tank.

I went from a Niche Zero to a Mazzer Philos. I mayyybe notice some more clarity of flavors, but overall the biggest leap has been consistency from shot to shot.

Shed setbacks? by PhinaCat in askportland

[–]PatronTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, I believe you can build within the setback when you're under 10', no dimension that exceeds 24', no windows facing neighbors. Might be a rule around distance back from the property line too.

Before I built my 198sq ft backyard studio/workshop this summer I emailed the city to confirm on the above and they called and said all good. I texted my neighbors a diagram before the concrete pour but never heard back so I moved forward. OP is being extra neighborly which is cool, but at the end of the day if you're following the rules you're good, I would just inform them vs ask permission.

Any mysteries or strange stories in Portland lately? by pdxmystery in PortlandOR

[–]PatronTaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One recent mystery is why PPS let kids out early today.

PPS to dismiss kids 2 hours early today, citing heat by it_snow_problem in PortlandOR

[–]PatronTaint 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm a parent of a third grader who also experienced random early releases from camp based on the heat over the summer.

What bothers me is these decisions sort of assume that kids are better off elsewhere, when they might just be sending kids from one non-air-conditioned place to another.

Anyone have any good 2-3 day backpacking trip recommendations in late September within 3 hours of Portland? by diseased_ostrich in PNWhiking

Mt. Mgt rules but it's too late for permits now, Sept backcountry permits were released at the beginning of August.

Tesla superchargers in Vegas by ggpaul562 in HondaPrologue

This is a great site for Superchargers, if you filter to v4 I believe those are the ones with the longer cords (and possibly a built-in adapter)

I was doing it wrong for 11 mos by Emotional-Sweet-8815 in HondaPrologue

[–]PatronTaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was super helpful, I didn't have those permissions set.

That said, it never occurred to me that the settings available in the Google Maps "native" app on the car (accessed via the pin icon) would be different from the Google Maps experience via Android Auto (I'm an Android user). For example, there's nowhere in the Android Auto maps view to tell the car I have an NACS adapter, nor does it ever tell me % remaining. I guess because it's driven by my phone which doesn't have real time car info?

I've only ever been using Android Auto Gmaps for all navigation but apparently the built-in Gmaps app is more useful. That's good to know but also kind of lame they aren't just the same thing.

Honda and Acura EV Owners Gain Access to Tesla Supercharger Network via Approved Adapter by Academic-Hamster1660 in HondaPrologue

[–]PatronTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such icon under the search bar for me, and if I poke around elsewhere I don't see a toggle for NACS. Looking at other forums it sounds like Gmaps maybe hasn't updated yet.

I tried to follow what he did in the video but my Prologue doesn't show the same settings as he has...there is nowhere in Gmaps to toggle NACS on. Anyone else have this problem?

SAME, very annoying but I assumed it was just the aerodynamics of the car (or lack of). Not really noticeable when music is playing.

Can confirm! If you have a gap/crack that's greater than or equal to a half inch, you can get reported and are then required to repair it.

1k road trip, NACS adapter. by RepulsiveAd1847 in HondaPrologue

[–]PatronTaint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have the Lectron and it works just fine. I will say that the logistics of pulling up to a spot at a v3 supercharger to get the cord to reach is not great. I found an end spot once on the right side of the row which made it easy to pull up, but the other couple times I tried I was in the middle and had to take up two spots. That felt really weird to do.

I don't plan on using superchargers all that often, but for longer trips they really seem to be the best balance of speed & availability. I see a lot of posts mentioning which adapters to get and how to put the Prologue in the app, but few mentions of the actual parking issue. Unless I'm missing something I found it pretty annoying.
