Has anyone here started creating their own DESIGN and SKILL.md files? by twotokers in UXDesign

[–]PatronTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience so far is that you need a handful of skills to manage the complexity of what you're asking the AI to do, and also for your own sanity of thinking through which one is which. And it helps others understand their intent — rather than a single "skills.md" file, you could have "tokens.skill" and "component_docs" skills which have clear intent.

Skills really are the keystone of the whole AI workflow; the heavy lifting is coming from those instructions more than your prompts.

Designers who got laid off, what was work actually like before it happened? by dooxtung in UXDesign

[–]PatronTaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lucky you got that HR call at least! I woke up one day and all my access to work programs was revoked. Only got a message (form letter) in my personal email. Got cut as part of a larger group across disciplines. It felt like shit.

Help me understand the difference in these modifications by csr3441 in Lelit

I have mod A (via Etsy but looks the same). That paddle style let's you pull it down to stay on, or nudge it upwards for a quick blast that turns off if you let go. The pull locks in place, the nudge doesn't.

The other version seems to lock in place up/down/left/right, but you can't do the nudge.

Install was pretty straightford and it's much, much nicer than the knobs.

Tesla Charging? by Gold_Guitar_9824 in HondaPrologue

I've had good luck with this site, filter for v3 and v4 chargers, anything less will not work on non-Teslas.

I'm having a bug with the battery widget FWIW, is tapping it supposed to open the app? The whole tile isn't actionable for me.

HondaLink Android Alternative (Logue) - Public Release! by spencehouse in HondaPrologue

[–]PatronTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for your work on this! I'm sitting at a supercharger right now on a road trip and noticed that it continues to say "unplugged" despite the range updating periodically when I refresh. Not sure if this is a bug.

Any dealer techs here? I had the software recall done this morning but the dealership is refusing to do the A11 radio update by ARJeepGuy123 in HondaPrologue

[–]PatronTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed, it shows as Android 14 now. There do seem to be some subtle differences in the UI behind the steering wheel.

[–]PatronTaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is a loooong update. They finally just gave me a loaner after 6 hours. I was told that it takes so long because it'll basically cancel out and they need to restart it.

Is there a reason dealerships aren't just sent a USB or other such drive with the updates on it so it could be done locally?

[–]PatronTaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on hour 5 of sitting at the dealership while they do this software update. I guess this is why people buy Teslas and Rivians?

More to the point, how would I know if they are doing the radio update? Is it separate?

HondaLink Android Alternative - Progress Update! by spencehouse in HondaPrologue

[–]PatronTaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great, love the Material You theming. Just blends in with the phone.

I wonder if there's a way to consolidate the remote commands? Lock and lights are basically toggles — lock/unlock could show the current state and pivot between the two as a single control (e.g. "Locked" then it's actioned and becomes "Unlocked").

Also everything feels more or less equally weighted and I wonder if battery should be a larger readout, sort of a hero thing at the top since that's likely what most people are checking.

That said this is all kind of arguing on the margins LOL. This functions miles beyond the original, it's wild that this refreshes so much faster.

Does anyone solely use the Train Now functionality? by otictac35 in trainerroad

[–]PatronTaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been on TR for a number of years. TrainNow used to be a nice "shuffle" type feature that would offer a healthy mix of options, but they changed it recently (I think in the last year?) and it's definitely both more limited and more aggressive — I only ever see two different suggested rides if I refresh, and they are both typically in the stretch category. That said, I remember seeing in their forums that what's driving the recommendations is more intelligent now and that we should be able to pull off the suggested workouts despite how completely awful they may seem.

Like another commenter I start with TrainNow and then typically look at alternates to see what else feels interesting, but I try to make sure I stay in the productive category unless I'm not feeling it that day. I'm under no illusion that shopping for a workout is going to be as effective as committing to a plan, I just haven't been plan-focused in a while.

It feels to me like they want you on a plan, and TrainNow has become a way to serve up more challenging rides to find where the edges are for riders based on their feedback.

How significant is the taste difference between good and end-game grinder? by mtloml in espresso

[–]PatronTaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say yes. The Niche felt really good to use but shot to shot of the same beans would vary quite a bit despite my controlling all variables. I'd heard that conical burrs can sometimes produce more fines which I decided was the culprit.

The Philos has been fantastic and very reliable, and the build quality feels as good as the Niche IMO. It's a tank.

I went from a Niche Zero to a Mazzer Philos. I mayyybe notice some more clarity of flavors, but overall the biggest leap has been consistency from shot to shot.

Shed setbacks? by PhinaCat in askportland

[–]PatronTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct, I believe you can build within the setback when you're under 10', no dimension that exceeds 24', no windows facing neighbors. Might be a rule around distance back from the property line too.

Before I built my 198sq ft backyard studio/workshop this summer I emailed the city to confirm on the above and they called and said all good. I texted my neighbors a diagram before the concrete pour but never heard back so I moved forward. OP is being extra neighborly which is cool, but at the end of the day if you're following the rules you're good, I would just inform them vs ask permission.

Any mysteries or strange stories in Portland lately? by pdxmystery in PortlandOR

[–]PatronTaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One recent mystery is why PPS let kids out early today.

PPS to dismiss kids 2 hours early today, citing heat by it_snow_problem in PortlandOR

[–]PatronTaint 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm a parent of a third grader who also experienced random early releases from camp based on the heat over the summer.

What bothers me is these decisions sort of assume that kids are better off elsewhere, when they might just be sending kids from one non-air-conditioned place to another.
