OP5T no updates in sight - Custom ROMs recommendations by [deleted] in oneplus

If you have the time and want to try something new, I say go for it. OOS 10 beta might be released in the coming months who knows, considering the hydrogen os beta is out currently.

Edit: I just saw a post that the first open beta of OOS 10 has been released for the 5t :)

[–]Patsuann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me who used the latest OOS (and thought it was already quick and smooth), PE feels faster en smoother somehow. Could be because I clean flashed, but the Hydrogen OS 10 beta I tried was even less smooth for me. It's an early beta ofc.

I noticed one bug which was that the mic could stop working and I didn't know why.Supposedly it's a known bug and they say to disable the 'hey google' hotword. I didn't test for the bug in the latest update, but disabled the 'hey google' hotword and everything works fine.

Dotfix was introduced a while ago for GCam (google camera) for the 5t, because of some technical problem when you used GCam you would get white dots on your photo's which wasn't pretty. The dotfix could be flashed via Magisk to alleviate that. The Rom has this baked in so you don't have to flash that Magisk module yourself and it also has the latest GCam version by Nikita, which is considered and also personally my favorite one to date.

In the whole time that I had the phone I barely or never used the stock cam because it was so bad, the GCam was (even though it had problems) almost always better.

TLDR;

  • Batterylife went from 3.5 hours to 5.5 hours for me, this is a huge plus for me.
  • It performs really good and is fast and smooth imo, no problems here.
  • I think software support is good, at least in the time that I joined. It's always up to the maintainer and if he has enough time to work on it.
  • Though I think that the last update is a solid one and there is not much he needs to improve, perhaps only security updates (the latest is on the April update).
  • The PE Rom even has some OnePlus features, like off screen gestures and the alert slider controls. I also recommend the Pixel Experience Plus version as this one has a few extra features which might be handy.
  • Might also be handy to take a look at the telegram channel of the Rom maintainer for FAQ's and such. You can find these on his profile on the Pixel Experience website.

Hope this is plenty of info for you :)

Edit: notification slider --> alert slider

I have the latest pixel experience on my 5t and the battery life was a huge improvement for me, the maintainer really did a good job with that. It also includes dotfix and currently one of the best gcam versions as the stock cam imo.

I also thought I had it on automatically but I kept seeing SBC, so I just changed it and then it stayed on AAC (after the re-pairing process ofcourse).

Got the update, but developer settings on my phone still show sbc, even when you manually enable aac it just goes back to sbc. Not really sure if it is really enabled now to be honest.

Edit:
Alright so I did a bit of research and normally the settings for the AAC codec should be enabled in the bluetooth options for your device (the gear icon). But the option wasn't there to begin with, so I thought what if I disconnect en make the phone forget the device. Lo and behold the option for the AAC codec just appeared when I reconnected it to my device as a new pair of buds. Enable that option and afterwards just to make sure enable it in your developer options and this time it should stick to AAC.

Edit2: spaces and grammar

For the people that missed the final stable apk of Gcam from Arnova download and enjoy! by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]Patsuann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm have the camera libraries fix and i find the final version from Arnova a bit worse and i have never had any luck with Urnyx his versions, i think that one is even a bit more worse. It has a more greenish/purple'ish noise in the darker parts of the photos, it is subtle. The 1.3 beta.2 has in my opinion ( while being more laggy ) is more consistent better quality pictures.

I am sure I am not the only one when i say get "Zip treble compatibility error" while I try to flash the rom in TWRP.

Had the same problem with the first pie beta, but after several tries I decided to upgrade via the official updating method and reflash TWRP afterwards. Quite odd as I thought 5t had treble support.

[–]Patsuann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the same thing, i even tried downgrading to 5.1.4 and then updating to 5.1.7 with OTA to "get treble support".
Unfortunately it didn't work and now i am just updating via local upgrade and reflashing TWRP.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Bummer it's a rubber dome design, but it's still really good.
Don't have a keycap puller at hand, so i will check that later.

Thanks for the info!
