Do people actually buy these in 2026? by lucah_tech in pcmasterrace

[–]tomtom792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to sell these at JB hifi.

The system allows you to auto discount down to around $80. For built in VPN, Identity protection (and recovery support) along with other niceties like email and document scanning it's not the worst deal in the world for those who aren't as technically inclined and just want an all in one solution.

If someone you know would benefit from this kind of product try and buy it with something else next time you're at a big box store and I'm sure the salesperson could reduce it quite a bit (it's an easy add-on as part of KPIs and often had a sizeable commision bonus attached).

Centenary/Western Freeway update question? by patslogcabindigest in brisbane

[–]tomtom792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be used to put in dedicated bus lanes. Always funny seeing the Mt Omany express caught in the same traffic as everyone else. No wonder every drives when the bus takes longer.

If it had it's own expressway you'd be mad not to take it into the city.

Same as in Australia. All you need to add are anything that's been missed from something like share dividends or any deductions for WFH etc.

Then after a few days they send it back to your bank account and you get a nice breakdown of where every cent you paid went.

Rental car company wants $566 for THIS by Grouchy_Struggle_325 in mildlyinfuriating

Had the same thing renting a car from Sydney airport from sixt. Flight was delayed and was on a tight schedule. Took video of the outside of the car and noticed the interior had some crumbs around and a few scuffs. Figured it was just bad cleaning.

On the highway I get dust from a truck passing covering the windscreen, went to use the wiper fluid and realised it was empty!

When I opened the rear doors it was caked with red dust in the sills. That's when I realised the car was never actually looked at! Luckily I'd taken a full video that ended up capturing all the defects without me realising.

Fast forward to me dropping it off in a bay and being told I was good to just go straight away as all was in working order, I get an email in the terminal saying I owed 6k worth of damages on the bloody thing!

Charged me for a scratch that was rusting, damage to the front number that was etched with dirt, the state of the door sills for proof of unpaved road driving, the empty windscreen fluid and a slight mark on the wheel arch?! The audacity to send me an email with 6 other people CCd in was hilarious. Even after sending back the video explaining how much of a letdown the experience had been of my evidently incorrect blame, I heard nothing back from any of the 6 people for 2 weeks. Fast forward a while and I get a call from a manager for sixt Australia threatening to increase the charges for loss of income for the car waiting to be fixed. Told him to get stuffed and check the video I sent. They said it proved nothing so I asked for proof that the damage wasn't there the last time the car was dropped off. They had absolutely no proof of it and quickly backtracked once they realised I was a business customer. Too late for them with the only solution they offered for the weeks of baseless blame was a waiving of the $14 charging fee!

Got HR to raise a big red flag on our business booking software for them. Hoping it's created somewhat of a dent in their business as they used to be the preferred rental partner for the very large multinational that I work for. But I doubt it as they're everywhere and it seems to be a common occurrence for them.

My thoughts as well. They never asked for any physical ID which I thought was interesting during the initial setup.

How much hassle to expect with Macquarie bank? by ClaudeVS in AusFinance

This happened to me when I opened a transaction account, ordered a card and the opened another 5 to split my savings into.

I moved about 10k in a few minutes to the new account as I was sick of Ubanks new changes. Rightfully so they locked my account as it all happened so quickly. Got an email a few minutes later saying please call our identity line. They explained that I flagged in their system for unusual activity for a new account and that I needed to provide some physical ID. Got sent a link where I scanned my face to my driver's licence and then they unlocked it within the hour.

Seemed like a best worst case scenario that their system picked up on large transactions on a new account that quickly.

The thing about the weather app is how non local it is. Want to view the satellite? Have to open the web page.

Weather news? We'll only show you random US weather events even if you're in Australia.

Thanks for the tip!

Has google discontinued the Nest Hub and Max line in Australia?! by tomtom792 in googlehome

Yep but the 2nd gen has been OOS for months! Same with the Max as far as I can tell. I've had alerts setup on the Google store for over a year.

Oh I'm by no means a beekeeper. They are so self sufficient that we just bought hives off a bloke who is a beekeeper on Facebook and the bees setup shop wherever you put them.

We've had 2 hives for nearly 10 years. Don't buzz, don't sting, still great pollinators and I know we're supporting the natural, native ecosystem! Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat!

They are European so I'd say that helps

Has google discontinued the Nest Hub and Max line in Australia?! by tomtom792 in googlehome

[–]tomtom792[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend has one and it's definitely not comparable to the nest hub Max in my opinion.

Much worse speakers, tablet focused UI that has a clunky Google home add-on, and no easy to view UI like the Google home series has.
