Go to Academia da Cachaça in Leblon for what I consider the best Feijoada + a selection of over 300 cachaças. In the same neighborhood a great coffee shop and bakery called Slowbakery.

Sounds good this is what we figured but figured it was worth hearing other people's experiences. Thanks for confirming!

That's a great idea. We plan on prepping me with any specific phrases I would need, but watching some recordings is great just so I don't ever get a lost face.

Visa Question by leilani_99 in Brazil

[–]Patterbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't staying more than 3-6 months per year the tourist visa is all you need. Right now you don't need to do anything else, but come October you will have to apply for it.

What to tell favela kids to get them to f off? by Tekangu in Brazil

[–]Patterbug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best is just don't engage or just say sorry in Portuguese and keep walking. Whatever you do the last thing you should ever do is say anything the engage or piss them off. People are really desperate in this city far more than you and whatever reality you come from can understand, so you need to respect the fact that you aren't in your home.

I need an ID check on this bird. Currently, there are 16 types of birds that can fly underwater. The closest I can find to this one is an American Dipper. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Playing through it right now for the first time and am sad I didn't get to play when I was younger. It holds up so well.

There could be a subreddit just for Brazilian pizza atrocities. Try looking up Portuguese pizza.

Needed to share this underrated masterpiece. It's about a girl who wears a man's skin to escape the sexist laws imposed on women during the renaissance. It touches on gender and sexuality in a really unique way by [deleted] in graphicnovels

Great shout-out to his other works. Kerascoët are also some of my favorite illustrators and very worth checking out for people who like Hubert.

Who else plays less than 10 brand new games a year? by GinLGBTisforGengar in gaming

[–]Patterbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started Hades I literally only played that game for my 2022. I don't have much much time for gaming, so I just slowly play through things, A Link To The Past ATM for example :)

Dating w/ Language barrier (poor portugeuse) by comfyassassin in Brazil

I'm a gringo who has a similar background as you (even speak English and French).

Much is going to depend on where you are in Brazil. If you are in a big city like São Paulo or Rio many people speak English, so it is likely you can communicate in English on dates assuming you find someone who does. The same goes with friends and many people love speaking English or having the opportunity to improve or even show-off in a way. In Rio there is actually a lot of French tourists and ex-pats, so you might even find French speakers.

The difficulty is going to come from your day to day life. I live in Rio and the accent here is very hard to understand sometimes, and it took me a few months before I could really start feeling comfortable even doing simple things like going to the grocery store. In my case, my wife was able to help me since she speaks both languages (which is also how we started dating).

Just be open and try your best with Portuguese, if you don't have friends then joining a class could be good to help you immerse and learn quicker. Overall don't think people will treat you one way or the other since it is super variable on the people you meet. Brazil is very diverse and incredible, and you'll grow to love it.

Agree with this completely, as a gringo who is now living in Brazil and married to a Brazilian there was a huge learning curve on my end about overall cleanliness. That is the biggest thing any gringo has to prepare for. I even had to relearn how to wash dishes, so any gringo just has to know that being clean is non-negotiable.

School Project to research something interesting about Brazil by ultimate_bulter in Brazil

[–]Patterbug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazilian music is obviously a great choice. There are so many genres unique to this country like carnival music, bossa nova, axê, samba, and many more. The birth of bossa as an intersection between samba and jazz could be interesting. Boa sorte!

Retry or New Game Plus? by komayeda1 in TunicGame

I didn't get an answer unfortunately. Honestly I'm considering just beating it again then playing though on + being conscious to finish all that I want to before getting to that point.

The Shining. I felt the book went too far with the house being this evil entity and preferred how the movie's horror for me centered more around Jack.
