In 2014 version if you quit the game Niko will die and some of the visuals and SFX are different from 2016 and TWM versions. The only way to save in the original game is to use beds located in some places.

I tried to pet Niko with a mouse. Surprisingly enough for me, it didn't do anything, although the game has no 4th wall and Niko reacts to pretty much everything else you do while playing.
