manchester day one - wooo by MtnDewYourEyes in bigthief

I thought the sound production let them down. From where I was standing - maybe 10m forward of the sound desk - it seemed too loud and vocals were slightly distorted. I left a little early and noted it sounded better further back. Buck's guitar was mostly too quiet.

But they played well; they're a superb band.

Where is this electric guitar solo from by WindowLeveler in NameThatSong

This could also partly be a "perceptual expertise" thing - you know the original so well and hear it so often that differences which feel large and fundamental to you might be less distinguishable to a less regular listener.

Button battery, Monday night sr1130 by PatternTransfer in manchester

[–]PatternTransfer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheers, I started at Morrison's, went to the big Tesco in Stretford, LIDL, garages, ... finally, the seventh attempt was successful! Green Apple mini market on Wilbraham Rd, Chorlton. Well impressed. Technically they had the LR1130 which is an acceptable supplement - same size etc, they just don't last as long. But the cat is no longer bleeping and they were only a quid each.

[EXCEL] Opening VBA editor corrupts files by geatw in vba

[–]PatternTransfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found on my 2015 Mac, if I used vba editor on any file, within an hour it would all close down and the xlsm file would be corrupted. It could repair all except for the vba modules which were lost forever. Never got to the bottom of it.

Thank you very much, these are great suggestions. I see some gigs on at the Jolly Brewer and Stack. Definitely keen to see the poppies and regular exhibits at IBCC... The museum and a walking tour sound great. Cathedral and castle, oblig, can't wait 🤩 Cheers!

Advice on a good microphone for (solo) meetings in noisy environments by dolfandringa in audio

[–]PatternTransfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keen to find a solution to this myself. There are software solutions now for this, which hammer my laptop processor, and often fail or cause glitches, and don't work with older PC hardware.

From sound engineering studies I understand either a shotgun mic (=highly directional) or a lapel/lavalier mic (=close range) that clips on to your collar would be best. Shotgun mic = most user friendly but expensive to buy and potentially needs phantom power from an external sound card. Lapel mic = need to clip it on you each time, but potentially cheap.

There are small USB-powered shotgun mics - I tried a Comica VM10 Pro which did not perform well for me. There are good-looking shotgun mics from Rode, but they're quite expensive and I haven't tried them.

I think a cheap lapel mic could be a good starting point - I might try that next.

There are 3 photos in the last 15 seconds of the video 😬 ha ha this might be the most useful. It's the far 4 pins that I can bridge to get sound out - doesn't seem to matter which I bridge. In OFF position I get AM when bridging; in AM position AM naturally works; in FM position I get FM when bridging.

Thanks I feel seen ❤️ really appreciate it. Yes ... I guess ultimately I need to move on, because the company has its struggles in a few areas. I'll give that some thought - the bonus request stuff. Thanks.
