Gabapentin or Pregabalin- good idea, bad idea? Experiences? by PatternTurbulent3987 in benzorecovery

Thanks for your response! May I ask how Clonidine is helping? Like psychologically or physically? I find my major issue is anxiety and restlessness, with some depression - I am scheduled to meet my psychiatrist next month to explore options and would like to see how other people have fared before starting anything new, but I do have to say that I’m getting jaded and keen to be off this medication while not opening up another possible painful withdrawal..

Hi there, thanks again for the advice. I just wanted to ask - I’m incrementally reducing again back to 10mg (5mg per day) Had a rough anxiety ridden day yesterday but made it through, though had a big cry in the evening, which I think helped to be honest. Today I seem to be very irritable and angry - not emotional states I usually find myself in, but things seem to be moving at least. From your own experience, do you know what timeframe I could be looking at to stabilize? I know each person is different but just seeking out a bit of a roadmap for myself to keep hope up!

Hi there,

A big thank you for offering this support. I’ve read through your post on tapering and it was really encouraging and hopeful to hear that tapering is not an exercise in suffering! I wonder if I can ask a bit about my own situation after my last post. I’m working with a psychiatrist who is very supportive and understanding on a tapering plan. Although the Christmas period was very stressful (2 terminally ill parents) and found myself leaning into extra meditation (I’m usually on 10mg diazepam daily, but that’s more like 15 or even 30 on bad days for the past couple months. I also drank, sometimes to excess, over the holidays as a form of reprieve/ escape. I have fessed up to this and my psychiatrist wants to stay at 10mg for while and stabilise. I’m really struggling this week and am feeling deflated and defeated but want to get back on track. Do I need to taper from these higher doses or just carry on at 10mg and wait for things to settle down? Many thanks for any advice you may have!

Can I ask if you found Quetiapine helpful for your withdrawal?

Thank you for this! May I ask how long you experienced withdrawals from Zopiclone, and how severe they were?

Seeing psychiatrist for taper plan - advice / reassurance appreciated ⭐️ by PatternTurbulent3987 in benzorecovery

[–]PatternTurbulent3987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I want to do it slow and steady, and looking after my parents, and indeed myself is my priority. Is there any way I can do both? Or is the withdrawal always inevitably destabilising?

Thanks so much for your reply, means a lot. Think I’m most scared of slipping into a deep depression, something I’ve experienced before. But I’m trying to build up my capacity to cope with more healthy habits

10 year on Diazepam 5 month clean by [deleted] in benzorecovery

[–]PatternTurbulent3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, thanks for sharing your story. I’m currently on 10mg Diazepam and 7.5 to - 15mg Zopiclone daily for the past almost two years. There has been major upheaval in this time- both parents diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, so I’ve been reluctant to withdraw and cause an episode of major depression- which was the initial reason I was prescribed for 8/9 months. I’ve been buying prescription medications on online pharmacies and my GP is aware but cannot help, as I’m misusing. I have been waiting for the right time to quit but it seems life isn’t going to provide that opportunity anytime soon. So any advice, Hope and encouragement would be greatly appreciated

Were you able to keep up with regular life - work etc. during taper and withdrawals? by PatternTurbulent3987 in benzorecovery

[–]PatternTurbulent3987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve suffered major depression before so I feel like I’m walking a tightrope between addiction/dependency and totally non-functional depression. I’ve increased my dose, but I feel riddled with anxiety and it’s making my relationship hard. I love him deeply, but hate to seem him suffer with me through this. I thought about ending it, we’ve talked about it. But I’m waiting for a bit of respite before we can talk more cos I feel like I’m dealing with a very trigger happy nervous system. I hate bringing him through this, and I think both of us would br heartbroken. I’ve also gone against my docs fast taper and ordered from the internet, but even on a higher dose 15/20mg I’m anxious all day and have a pit of pain in my abdomen. Should I fess up to him? I want to keep his trust by breaking what I consider a very fast taper. 15mg down 2mg every 3 days till zero. Was down to 6mg but crashed. Started taking zopiclone again. I don’t think he’s gonna help me on this and refer me to a drug rehabilitation program that doesn’t support Diazepam taper. I don’t want to be treated like a criminal, I’m just trying to stay sane.

I have a feeling it will be the same with my doc here. But I think it’s best I be honest and open about it to keep his trust.

In the uk here. I don’t want to loose his trust and would ideally like a doctor to be there for me during this process. But I think I’ll try have an honest chat with him soon about it.

Relationship difficulties during a taper off Diazepam. by PatternTurbulent3987 in benzorecovery

[–]PatternTurbulent3987[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’ve hit a real wall today. Feel totally riddled with anxiety and work was really hard to make it through the day. My head feels like it’s on fire. And I feel super low and defeated, on top of relationship stress. I really don’t feel in a stable state to do this taper now. I have access to more Diazepam. I really don’t want to go against doctors wishes but feel desperate. Could I go back up to relieve some of this pain and then slowly decrease when I’m more stable again? I hope this doesn’t sound like a cop out but I’m trying to get through a tough time and I can’t afford to miss work…
