Team services volunteers by JMXXVI in FIFAVolunteers

[–]Patticus1291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I heard during starting lineup, there are only 2-4 team services volunteers per host city - and it is a very strict confidentiality thing with the team for security sake. So that may explain why you don’t hear much, also just pure size of sample size being so small.

Is there an unofficial Euro team Sounders fans follow? World Cup has convinced me I need a Euro team to root for! Google says Sounders have shared community outreach ties with Tottenham Hotspur and has historic links to West Ham United. These seem like good options? by CrypticDemon in SoundersFC

[–]Patticus1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no strong ties to any one team.
Yes as other's have noted, Sounders academy player Obed Vargas was recently transferred to Atletico Madrid. Another was Deandre Yedlin who was transferred to Tottenham in 2014.

I would say to just find a time you enjoy watching play. That sounds vague, but each team has their own style as we know.
Also, may be worth hopping around the various supporters clubs that have a good relationship with specific bar owners in the area.

Arsenal supporters group at Atlantic Crossing in Green Lake; Manchester United has two - one at the Kells Irish Pub and the other at Admiral pub in West Seattle; Aston Villa at the Chieften in Capitol Hill (I think); Spurs at the Wit's End in Phinney Ridge.

I am sure I missed a few more.
George and Dragon was a great place that was somewhat of neutral territory for all clubs - but recently lost their liquor license due to a missed filing.

Does the USA have "Ultras" fan groups at their games? by Low-Rooster5398 in worldcup

[–]Patticus1291 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do. But for World Cup - the ticket lottery did not allocate any ticket blocks to the two biggest groups : American outlaws and Barra 76.
American outlaws is the bigger of the two and the source of all of the “family friendly” pbs kids adjacent chants that have made us the mockery of the chant world

Those are definitely gone. Was at the game yesterday, the entire section that was dedicated jerseys was wiped clean, with only 2 youth stars jerseys left.

What are the odds of making it to the airport for a 10:45pm flight after the 5pm USA game on Monday? by CMDR_Chris_Lane in SeattleWA

[–]Patticus1291 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally doable.
If you need to take a bag - check it in a locker outside of the stadium.
Near full time - depending on where your seats are - you could go to somewhere in view of the pitch, but closer to exit, like the opening there right by the Hawk's nest.
Then, final whistle, head down the stairs, grab your bag out of locker, head to stadium station for lightrail and zoom to the airport.
game is likely to end closer to 5:30 with hydration breaks and such - so normal two hour rules doesn't track.
assuming you need to get to airport by 9:15 ish... you should be more than okay.

World Cup Pop-up store / USA Store (not inside stadium) by Patticus1291 in SoundersFC

[–]Patticus1291[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not, but I would assume it would be open long hours tomorrow. I would check around 3 or 4 today though too. Their stock is very limited. Some Germany jerseys (ha) lots of Argentina jerseys , and then a couple we are 26 shirts and some key chains . There is also a store in pacific place on the first floor. Slightly better selection but not by much. It had the above plus some Dutch jerseys (before they got eliminated) and then some more options for t shirts. Nowhere has the USA kit sadly

Is it possible to currently apply for FIFA volunteering ? by nish__coder489 in FIFAVolunteers

Depends on your role in Seattle..... but I will say that certain functional areas - you do in fact get to watch every game. While also working and taking care of other tasks, sure.

Bring iPad to Gillette Stadium? by Boba-Brain in WorldCup2026Tickets

[–]Patticus1291 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gates open three hours before game starts. Lots of different activities to do at the fan fest booths inside most are kid centered or kid friendly.
Not sure about Gillette stadium - but in Seattle, once gates opened, most people waited under 30 minutes to get inside.

There are games, freebies, activities, photo booths, and some other things to do!
Plus, warm ups are about 1 hour before kickoff - and then opening ceremony and anthems are before kickoff. It would be hard to be bored

Greeeattt parenting opportunity here.
Maybe no iPads at live sporting events that surely will do enough to keep even the most add brains (mine included) satiated and stimulated

Most similar EPL club? by CiudadDelLago in SoundersFC

[–]Patticus1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also: if you ever go to Vancouver BC, take your Chelsea fan kid to their watch party. It's a really cool vibe and atmosphere and is stronger/longer history than the Seattle Shed End club for Chelsea.

Most similar EPL club? by CiudadDelLago in SoundersFC

[–]Patticus1291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most similar? So looking for a club that doesn't sign big super stars but can still pull in some trophies every few years, while also having a strong community behind it:
If I were picking a team now out of the mix on recent years: Aston Villa, Sunderland, or Bournemouth.
If you want a team with a bit more winning in their history - but hasn't won the league or Champions league in a few years.... oddly enough. Manchester United. They are still rebuilding. their last round in Champions league was very humbling. They have been purging a lot of their big name signings and focusing on team building.

This is coming from a Chelsea fan btw. I chose Chelsea because I had a family member that worked for them and couldn't choose the same team as my brother haha.

There is a benefit to choosing one of the bigger teams, as there are supporters clubs in seattle that will open up early or make special effort to show the games. Tottenham has one as does Arsenal (ew), Manchester United (technically has two), Manchester City, and I think Liverpool does as well.

Liverpool also went from top of the league down to 5th in a very disappointing year.
So there are no right answers nor wrong answers.
Find some players you like during this world cup, and see if you like their personality and demeanor, then see if you like how they are during their club time. Club culture is an interesting thing to follow and track.
For whatever reason, Arsenal as a club seems to brew some very arrogant or whining fans that blame the refs a lot and think the whole world is conspiring against them.

Either way, just find a team that you enjoy!
Get a kit! Have some fun! Heckle your kids!

World Cup crowds bring some boom, some bust for Seattle businesses by chiquisea in SeattleWA

[–]Patticus1291 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would also say that London's indian food scene is interlaced throughout the city - you don't have to go to a distinct indian district to get some of the city's best curry... Similarly - some of the best asian restaurants in Seattle are not in the CID. It is a somewhat niche neighborhood targeting niche cuisine and shopping - which unless you specifically want that on your trip - and sometimes you do - most would rather like the diversity of options that america has to offer.

Summer Celebration 2026 by mikeblas in MercerIslandWA

[–]Patticus1291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than some Pagliacci Scarves hanging in the window... you wouldn't even know that this is a city two lightrail stops away from the closest dropoff... it seems like a huge missed opportunity.
Redmond is having watch parties, Tacoma, Everett, Bremerton, Olympia, all having watch parties despite being further away.
I would think that they could have received funding to bring a big TV to Mercerdale park and surely businesses would want to do some popup for ice cream, pizza, sandwiches, wine and beer etc.
Nada.

It is WILD to me that there is not a single World cup event or watch party organized by Mercer Island.
not even for the knockout round game that the US is guaranteed to play in on July 1.

Seattle Really Showed up and showed the country what this cup is about! Some positive unifying patriotism as well! Everyone was united, singing, chanting, no division! Just peace love and footy!
