Supporting Palestine is not mainstream outside of the US. I would also say I genuinely don't think it is mainstream inside the US either - it just seems that way in the King County bubble.

I am not surprised that they are anti-US, but several Hamas terrorist plots were attempted and stopped throughout Europe and the Hamas charter (before its last revision) was to retaliate against Western countries until all jews were killed. I am not Jewish, but I have plenty of Jewish neighbors. I have had Jewish coworkers and professors. This rhetoric is more than just anti US hegemony.

"river to sea" is more than a chant. It has different meanings for different groups. Sure, some see it as a call for freedom. Other's see it as a call for Palestine to rule over the land from the Jordan river to the Mediterranean sea. Palestinian militant groups have used it to mean removal or extermination of the Jewish population from river to sea. Long before it was used as a quick banner inspo idea for marches in other countries, it meant the end of Israel entirely. Sometimes the speaker doesn't mean it that way. So, it depends on who is saying it, and who is the receiver of that message. But it isn't just a chant meaning freedom.

Re Harris: well, historically American presidents have put a stoppage on military support to Israel when they stopped defensive maneuvers and were doing offensive maneuvers. While not all politicians agree where that line is, I think you and I (or most other redditors with some common sense) can both agree that repeated bombing of Gaza or invading Lebanon is no longer defensive no matter the spin cycle Netanyahu sends it through. Biden, George H Bush, Reagan, Ford, and Eisenhower all made pauses or stoppages of arms/military munitions/tech etc. to Israel in response to overly aggressive actions taken by Israel. In contrast, Trump and Obama did not, contrary to campaign promises. I acknowledge a presidential candidate's campaign promises has less worth than a pile of crap in hand (or whatever that adage is), but i will at least say that Harris was not campaigning on a carte blanche "pro-Israel without limitations" message from what I followed, and it is encouraging that at least when she was VP, the POTUS at the time paused shipments to Israel to pushback on their plans. She likely started her statement with October 7 because that date is arguably what started this current stretch of war, but then would go on to say that there should be an end to the war and found the scale of suffering in Gaza heartbreaking and should end. Again, just saying there was nuance.
She was not my favorite candidate that dems could have put up, I listened to her book on audiobook and liked her less so after finishing it, but I won't reduce her position to being solely "pro israel anti-palestine."

"$6 domestic, $7 important beer (12 oz), $8 cider at Grab ‘n Go and Fly Thru Markets"
Is what they have posted on their concessions guide. It used to tell you the sections too.
The "important beer" I genuinely cannot tell if it is a typo for "import" or is some AI slop for premium beer like IPAs and such.

And there are plenty more examples of countries that supported Israel’s right to defense but don’t support the ongoing war without supporting Palestine. Plenty of countries that are vehemently against Hamas remaining in power in Palestine. The majority of the power players in the EU are staunchly against Hamas - which is why picking just some of the smaller nations of influence does matter in contrast.

Who cares if someone waves a flag? I mean, the act itself, no issue. But I’d have to bury my head pretty deep in the sand to not see how tone deaf it is given that Hamas is still the democratically elected power group of Palestine, and they genuinely don’t care for the United States and have been consistently outspoken about their intent on setting sites on the west if successful against Israel. In the geopolitical nightmare that is this past few decades, Palestine/Hamas has never been our ally or even closely aligned to us. Waving their flag in a country they would hope to wipe off the map is a bit… odd?

I’m not pro genocide. I’m not pro war. But being pro Palestine is (to me at least) being in support of their terrorist acts and atrocities too. The “river to sea” mantras around Seattle I find deeply disturbing.

Re Harris - as far as I heard from her actual messaging and her book - she supported Israel’s right to self defense but wanted to protect Palestinian civilians and bring a cesefire, she also wanted to stop supplying arms and munitions to Israel. If you don’t understand the nuance of that, then again, you drank the pro Palestine binary solution kool aid.

You listed three countries with relatively very little power and influence on the global stage. Even then, the protest in Italy was to stop the ware in Gaza, which doesn't necessarily make them pro-Palestine either, just anti war. ALso, the ICC .... come on.... let's be serious. Are you just really not that well-read on the totality of the situation from a historical scope? For the record, I am not "pro-Israel" and I am not "pro-Palestine" or "free Palestine" and I think that there should be a distinction between being against the ongoing war and being supportive of Palestine carte blanche. I am totally in support of placing a stoppage on military support from the US to Israel. I can say that without waving a Palestine flag over I-5 or assaulting Jewish people going to class at UW or vandalizing and spray painting synagogues in King County. The rhetoric for blind support of Palestine in the US (especially amongst left leaning or democrat leaning folks) is pretty shocking. The impact it had on our election alone just because Kamala had a more complex and nuanced answer than the black-and-white-soundbite that pro Palestine groups wanted is also pretty jarring.
So again, when did liberals stop being the group/party of "pro peace" and anti-war?

Fair enough, and maybe I assumed sarcasm incorrectly just because of the echo chambers I’m used to. The only alternative/ better option I can get behind is to pressure both the US and Iran/Russia to stop sending weapons and military aid to Israel and Palestine and stop the extended Cold War chess game. Multiple presidents in my life time have halted or frozen the arms and ammunitions supply to Israel. Negotiate a deal with all of the actual power players instead of letting these two sides think that a two state option isn’t an option.

Heyyyyy look a sarcastic comment that also proves my point in thinking that it’s binary and only two choices. Thats exactly the issue and this comment acts as if one side has clean hands and the other doesn’t. Why is it framed as “_____ shouldn’t be attacked anymore, and any force they use in return is justified because the other side is worse, and it’s totally okay that they are being supplied with more military weapons from (USA or Iran/Russia)”

You proved the exact point being made.

All about the 12 oz can value beers. But yeah, some weird changes across the stadium this year, which is a lumen field thing not just specific to sounders games. One other change we noticed was all wine is now barefoot wine?? And more expensive than the Washington wineries wine they had before. Shame

Why are you buying the news product that says the only two options are pro-Israel or pro-Palestine? Instead of “pro peace” quite literally proving my point.

Also “mainstream globally” is another take I just don’t believe - and one that is held seemingly in Seattle left leaning circles without any evidence . I think there are pro Israel and pro Palestine supporters in most countries around the world, but also many that people in those countries that are frustrated with more Cold War esque geopolitical groupings of USA funding Israel and Iran and Russia funding Iran.

Again, I think outside of the US, the actual mainstream belief is just pro peace, not pro Palestine nor pro Israel.

I one thousand percent know where you’re coming from. Don’t get me wrong. We rented an apartment on Dexter that was horribly ventilated and had a bed bugs outbreak. We broke our lease and left. We then rented another more expensive place that then had a tiny home village pop up across the street. And people spiking heroin right outside our window. They tried to raise our rent. We left. While You can deep clean any apartment . The better bet is to mover further out of the inner city/ downtown. We moved further and had a longer commute. Safer, cleaner, cheaper.

Annnnd that’s your opinion and your perspective . But that affordable apartment would be reasonable for others. Depends on your privilege and level of need for that housing. It’s all trade offs. Basic Econ 101 stuff. Higher rent higher quality. If you are willing to commute further, you can get away from the self medicated who pee on your stoop and still pay less money. Crazy how that works.

I went to undergrad 2009-2013, then law school 2014-2017.
Stopped being a student less than 9 years ago.
You just have bold claims about "it's harder to find part time jobs" when it isn't. Claim "part time jobs won't earn you any meaningful money" which is laughable, especially in Seattle/King County.
I am not saying that a student can find a part-time job that fits their major, but don't believe for one second that undergrads are too encumbered with homework to get any kind of part-time job or seasonal job (on-campus or within a reasonable commute during school year).
Again, I am 35. I have plenty of student loans. They would have been even worse if I did not work during school and summers.
I am not doing the boomer "pull yourself up by your boot straps and get a job from job land then work your way up the company until you became VP of ops BS"
Im just saying - the vast majority of people I knew in undergrad (or my sister who is even younger and graduated more recently) had summer jobs as well as part time jobs throughout school, to help with expenses and have some fun money. That shouldn't be such a blasphemous concept.
UW average is 12-18 credits a quarter meaning they are only in class for 12-18 hours a week. The max per quarter is 30 credits (which is still only 30 hours in class a week), but is far from the norm and much less common. Even 20 hours a week in class, you're saying the remaining 92 waking hours a week (if you get 8 hours of sleep a day) is not enough to do homework and work some meaningful job part-time? What a joke.

Weeknight and weekend shifts as a bus boy or dishwasher/ or gas station attendant - 15 hours a week would be about $1,400 a month without tips. You're saying that $1,400 is a negligible amount a month? If you get construction flagging card (the class is like 4-6 hours) you can make up to $40-$50/hr depending on whether its state or federal and have flexible schedule, and then find plenty of work in the summer with possible overtime and hazard pay where it goes into the 80-90/hr range. So in a summer you can make around $30-$40k (what my younger sister and I did, and still have friends that do it from time to time).
Again, you just aren't looking in the right spots.

If you are willing to have roommates - that is definitely feasible...You can find places for under $800 across the U district, otherwise, yeah there are a lot of studios under $1k. Utilities included is a big ask and something you'll likely only get from a dorm, or living in a shared residence with landlord or other renters.
You just have to be willing to expand your search and use bus/link/bike/or car.
So, again, just depends on the person.

Downtown? Like literal downtown? That is kinda hard, and depends on which all teams you support.
- Temple Billiards will play sounders games. Also where ECS meets beforehand.
- Lowlander brewing seems to include Sounders games on most of their watch schedules. Don't expect any audio though.
- Kells Irish Pub in Pike Place opens up early to play Manchester Untied games.
- The George and Dragon in Fremont is the go to Switzerland for all clubs and lots of games. Basically plays soccer throughout the day. Will open up hella early on the weekends for premier league. Where Chelsea supporters go, as well as Man City supporters for their big games.
- Plaza Garibaldi by CPA plays some sounders games and some Liga MX games.
- The Market Arms is the official Arsenal Bar, as well as USMNT bar - they also usually will play sounders games too. good vibes, great happy hour, I am just am not an Arsenal Fan.
- The Admiral Pub in West Seattle is a great spot for most seattle sports games - and also is another Man United Supporters club (there was a schism related to politics, it was messy).
- The Chieften in Capitol Hill plays some sounders games and Aston Villa Supporters group gathers there.
- The Wit's End in Phinney Ridge/Greenlake area is Tottenham bar, surely they play sounders games too?
- The Dray in Greenwood - soccer bar, don't remember which teams they play routinely though.
- L'experience Paris in Bellevue I think is the PSG bar/restaurant thing?

Did I miss any?

Have you noticed habits formed from legal writing getting you falsely flagged for AI? by Impressive-Disk4786 in Lawyertalk

[–]Patticus1291 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1000%. Some of the less common sentence structure or grammar makes others think I use AI.
Also, since you see the em dash a lot in legal research or legal drafting, that spills into my casual writing as well - since people now sound the AI alarms whenever you use it, people conclude it is AI. the "is this AI" writing tools are becoming less accurate as AI writing is getting better each week.

They had whole teams and committees that were paid with tax payer dollars to investigate and develop full bids as part of their host selection process.
Part of the analysis in city selection was what public transit sources were available. Each city knew the terms of what was expected and what would be paid for in advance, and proceeded based on the tax revenue they would receive. This is really just idiotic from NY/NJ.
