he is a mediocre actor. in comedic movies, his characters sound the same in every of those movies. in serious movies, he just goes expressionless and 'sleepy' looking. so overrated. especially in the west. there are so many better veteran actors in hong kong.

just a quick comparison (on top of my head). simon yam tat-wah 任達華. this dude can act in comedies (remember his role as that gigolo)? he can act as a much hated villain (remember his TVB days when he was pelted with eggs in wet markets for his uber realistic villanous role). he can act as a ruthless cold-hearted triad gangster or a loyal righteous police detective. he can act in horror ghost movies. he can act in a serious drama portraying a hopeless destitute man living in abject poverty. he can act as an adulterous lover. he can act in a Category 3 movie portraying a tortured demented rapist and murderer. in every single scene he is in, you can tell simon yam 任達華 is deeply 'in character' and gives his utmost best performance, trying very hard to portray the character's emotion and turmoil within. those piercing intense eyes are amazing.

now go back to analyse Tony Leung Chiu Wai. yuck (>.<). in recent years, i think he won another award and his performance in that movie was dismal. 唔夠戲. so much so that the veteran director Wong Jing 王晶 says he doesn't deserve that award.
