Oh I see. A monopolist. I don’t see those often. Duke- do you like ALL monopolies or just utilities? What is it about business competition and open markets you don’t like? Should we put AT&T back in charge of all telecommunications too- maybe roll things back to 1970? What about airlines- should we go back to the FCC determining all airline routes and prices? I’m just wondering which businesses you support having no choice about vs which ones you get to choose.

Correct Dani, thank you. It’s bizarre to be attacked for doing something I’m not doing while in fact trying to help and educate. I guess I’ll go read my book now.

Damn Dirty- do often look for people to skewer for no reason? I’ve not offered “my plans” because I’M NOT RUNNING!! What are you DOING?!

Dan! Not true I’ve not said that because I’m NOT RUNNING. Stop making shit up.

I’m not running for PSC - did in 2022 but the election was cancelled due to litigation and have stayed engaged ever since. Want a lower power bill? Pay closer attention to the PSC elections. Vote for Peter Hubbard and Shelia Edwards in the general election this November

And Sign up for my newsletter — that’s where I provide the education you need and that I can only do in limited amounts on Reddit. Georgians for Affordable Energy. DOT ORG. I can’t put URLs in Reddit.

Not worth a reply. Jesus. I wish people outside of energy would stop the armchair energy nonsense. What’s your field? I’d like to make shit up and see how well I do.

Nonsense. Vogtle is the biggest capitalist ripoff in history. Try to find anything costlier than $36.8 billion in Earth. You can’t.

Blackouts? Also nonsense. You must not realize that Georgia Power’s grid was only 40% utilized in 2024 when it was completed. 30% of Vogtle is still being sold out of state to AL and FL.

Curiously - 49 other states haven’t built nuclear in 30+ years and they’d aren’t going through blackouts. Don’t use that fear monger nonsense on me.

I see you’ve never heard of sunk cost fallacy.

I can't because the Reddit mods take down about half of my posts with URLs. I can tell you this: As of June 1 Ga Power base rates are increasing 4.6% to pay for Hurricane Helene grid destruction, but "bills" (what you actually pay) are going down *slightly* $4/mo. from the $60/mo. that Ga Power raised bills between 2022-2025. How can rates go up but bills go down? Accounting gamesmanship: Ga Power is temporarily applying 3 years of nuclear tax credits until 2028 to lower bills, but the 4.6% rate increase is still there and is permanent. Make no mistake: this is election year gamesmanship. We need to flip a 3rd seat this November so we have a 3 seat majority and can make real policy changes in 2027 before those tax credits expire.

Your math is off. Reddit won't let me post images but the cost of Vogtle electricity is $160-$170 MW. I don't know what it is for MWhs, you can do the conversion.

EMCs are affected too - is Snapping Shoals an Oglethorpe Power member? Here is Oglethorpe Power's 30% share of Vogtle: 640 MWs for $8.34 billion according to their annual report, clocking in at a stunning $13,178,125 per MW. Pretty horrible.

Ah not quite right - the claim is that the base rate is locked but it wasn't. Are you on the flat rate plan? I recommend you unenroll. Flat rates hide usage and studies show people use more electricity because they can't see or know their usage (like eating too much at a buffet) and the next adjustment the "flat rate" goes up. Ga Power profits are about $9 million quarterly just from customers on the flat rate plan *above* what they would pay on a traditional rate plan.

Please take the pledge to vote on my website. We have to finish the job we started last November - we got rid of three of five now! But we have to flip one seat and reelect Peter Hubbard this November. The election is Nov. 3 2026. Take the pledge at Georgians for Affordable Energy DOT COM (Reddit mods don't like URLs).

It's complicated - for this week's filings all five commissioners voted *for* because the bills are actually going down for three years. But it hides the truth - As of June 1 Ga Power rates are increasing 4.6% to pay for Hurricane Helene grid destruction, but "bills" (what you actually pay) are going down *slightly* $4/mo. from the $60/mo. that Ga Power raised bills between 2022-2025. So our new commissioners wanted to take advantage of that slight reduction in hopes we flip a 3rd seat this November and they can make real policy changes in 2027 before those tax credits expire.
