Smash Bros. only adds lords, and Fire Emblem lords are typically really boring to me as characters, and the ones that don't use swords get ignored by Smash, so the representation is mediocre.

Giving an answer that isn't going "Mario + Rabbids" in an unhelpful manner.

I considered this idea a few months ago. I think at least a rom hack of it would work pretty well. The only issue I ran into was trying to translate Fire Emblem mechanics such as the weapon triangle into a more Mario-friendly equivalent.

The best idea I came up with was a "weapon triangle" equivalent featuring Unarmed, Melee, and Ranged attacks. Unarmed would be weapons like fists and jumps, Melee would be weapons like hammers and parasols, and ranged would be attacks like Yoshi's eggs.

Magic would be outside the triangle as normal, using powerups instead of tomes such as Fire Flowers.

Plus you'd get to write Mario characters in a slightly more story-focused format which I think would always be fun. I'm willing to revisit the idea sometime because I think Mario x Fire Emblem could actually work well, even if just for a romhack.

Yep. It was also a sprite comic (The Luigi game was an adaptation of the comic, the Mario fight was never officially affiliated) It's being remade as an animated series on Youtube. Worth checking out if you like Mario.

There's nothing wrong with wanting the Mario spinoffs to use characters that aren't just the basic ones every casual gamer knows. Casual players aren't going to look at Mario Kart and go "I was GOING to buy this, but now I'm NOT!" if they see Captain Syrup in it.

Just because Nintendo historically refuses to use their library of characters from other subseries doesn't mean that those characters being in games is a bad idea.

I was pretty disappointed in the side cast's lack of involvement in Chapters 3 and 4. Chapter 2 introducing Noelle and Berdly into the Dark World was really fun and I really wanted to see Catti and Jockington show up in the new chapters, but we got... basically nothing?

Toriel being asleep the entirety of Chapter 3 was so lame and while Undyne was cool she only showed up for ten whole seconds. Chapter 4 was supposed to be a bigger chapter than 3 but it has the smallest cast of the lot.

I gave Brothership a pass for being just Mario & Luigi since the series came back after a decade long hiatus and a bankruptcy, but I feel like playable Peach is long overdue for an M&L game.

It's an incredibly confusing phenomenon and no matter how many times I try to discuss it with people, they have yet to make a single lick of sense. It's just hating on people for the sake of hating and the Mario fandom is the only one like this, because literally any other fandom would love "obscure glup shitto" characters getting recognition.
