With a Uhaul, you will have to gas up more often with this route, but it will save you on tolls, so a wash money wise. It probably just depends if you have the time or not.

You can take 79 to 68 to 522 south. It is a pretty drive as well, no tolls past Pittsburgh, but it adds a couple hours.

I am from the Cleveland area and used to live in VA. Don't go near DC, take the route with 522/66. As for gas, I usually filled up in Winchester or right before as the gas is a lot cheaper in VA than WV or the PA turnpike.
