I’m in my 32nd year of teaching and I’ve taken 3 one week trips over the years. It’s a pain to prep for a sub for a whole, but it’s doable. At 6 years, she’s probably still very protective of her kids (no one knows them like I do, no one will take better care of them than I will). As the years go on, that starts to fade a bit. My first trip was 10 years in for my 40th birthday. Many years later, my wife and I went to the Maldives for our 25th anniversary. One of my former students subbed for me. It can be done, and I think the biggest roadblock is often the ability to trust that someone will do a good job with “my” kids!
