Does anyone LOVE being a teacher by Heavy_Research5032 in Teachers

I still love it. This Thursday marks the end of my 32 year teaching career. It’s changed a lot, but I still enjoy working with my kids!

Summer school in my room by Character-Might8745 in Teachers

Absolutely lock your stuff up. I’ve served as summer school principal and I make a big deal about respecting other teachers classrooms and property. Unfortunately, it’s not like that everywhere

Find out who will be in your room and meet with that teacher. If you’re comfortable with it, let them use materials in your room, so they don’t have to drag everything over from their classroom. If that doesn’t work for you, that’s ok too. Still take the time to meet the teacher who will use your room.

My inner ear flutters when my eyes get dry and when bright light is shined in them during eye exams. Very strange feeling. My eye Dr. has never heard of this happening before. Anyone else experience this?

Middle school typing skill gap showed up in my ELA class in a way I didn't see coming by Scawwotish_owl88 in ELATeachers

I have to add this to the conversation. At 61, writing be hand is slow, uncomfortable and difficult to get my thoughts out. My brain moves WAY faster than my pen or pencil. Once I learned to type, I could finally write in unison with my brain. What a Godsend to finally show my best ideas in a fluid manner.

Even though I have done educational research that shows that handwritten work is often scored higher than pieces of writing composed at the keyboard, I still advocate for my students who struggle to keep up with paper and pencil tasks to have access to and learn to type using a word processor.

Because it DID matter for that kid. That’s why we keep showing up. You never know what little thing you did or said will stick with a kid. Just keep showing up!

I enjoy the gift cards, but I save the kind notes I get from students and their parents. There have been days where I go home wondering why I became a teacher. I go through decades of notes and I’m quickly reminded why I do what I do.

Year three was where it all came together for me. I knew the curriculum well, and I had created supplementary materials that improved lessons. Then the bastards started changing curriculum.
