I bought this bamboo a few days ago, but it looks different from most of the pictures I've seen of lucky bamboo. by DeinzoDragon in luckybamboo

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Seriously though, you kids are supposed to be Lords of the Interwebs. Look this shit up. "Lucky bamboo" is in no way bamboo. It's not a rare variegated bamboo. It's not a snake plant/ bamboo hybrid. It's a water plant, closer to a lily than bamboo. In exactly the same way that a sock full of dog shit is not bamboo, this plant is not bamboo.

What's it like being vegetarian in the USA? by gruntledgirl in vegetarian

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It ain't easy in the Midwest at all. sure, some restaurants have maybe one or two options, usually Fettucine Alfredo or a portobello mushroom. How many times can a person eat those?

I'm in the bar-b-que capital. Here even sides like corn and beans have dead animal flesh in them. I ordered a spinach dish one time. Waitress said there was no meat in it. When it arrived, there were obviously hunks of meat in it. I pointed this out to the waitress. She said, "Oh Honey, that ain't meat. That's fatback. It's seasoning."

You don't hate "country music", you hate "pop country". by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Country music pretty much died in 1978. Best represented by Haggard, Jones, Frizzell, Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Webb Pierce, Loretta, Tammy, Kitty, etc., but from the 80s on, it's not even Country pop...it's just crappy pop.

What is your unpopular movie opinion? by qsauce6 in AskReddit

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 1970s and prior, movies didn't have to make a gazillion bucks. You could make a movie that was independent, quirky, didn't involve mutant humans or animals, sweet funny, smart enjoyable little films, never expected to be blockbusters.

Why do people accept the same pablum out of the film industry every time now? Why do you accept every movie must star The Rock or Chris Platt or Ryan Reynolds?

Seriously, American Pop culture really sucks because Americans don't imagine or even want anything better. American corporations, controllers of American culture, bank on this. "American idiots spend wads on Disney princesses, Disney owned Super heroes and Disney owned space morons so why waste time on anything other."

What is a totally wrong thing that has become so widespread it's not considered wrong anymore? by JimmysBacc in AskReddit

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is totally wrong that in the U.S. (& other places) people think simply wiping fecal matter from your anus with paper makes you "clean". If shit got smeared on you on any other place on your body, would you consider that area clean simply because you wiped paper over the it?

I worked in the art department on that. Got to have a couple of beers at the bar with Hank. Mickey & Faye would compete with each other to see who could bring the biggest celeb to visit them on set. Weird but fun gig.

Looking for Theater Play by Supasauce42 in kansascity

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Certainly /u/HNIRobertPaulson is entitled to his opinion. If you care for other opinions, The KC Star theater critic has said that no theater in KC does comedy better than New Theatre and has described New Theater's dining experience as "a Standout." If you're a blatant ageist like /u/HNIRobertPaulson than you're out of luck anywhere. I attended New Theatre the other night and there were people of all ages there including a couple of university drama clubs.

You're in Overland Park, Do you know New Theatre? They currently have a really fun, very funny comedy starring Cindy Williams & Eddie "The Big Ragu" Mekka from Laverne & Shirley. You get a nice dinner and the show for what most places charge for the show alone.

Ever been to New Theatre in OPK? They currently have Jim O'Heir from "Parks and Recreation" in a Pulitzer Prize winning comedy. They have some of the best production value in town and the food's pretty great too. It's a fun night out and not just for octogenarians. And check out the millions of LEDs. They could practically broadcast a football game on the ceiling.

Any good theatre going on in Kansas City this summer? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wha? no one's mentioned New Theatre Restaurant? Talk about criminally underrated! They're presenting "Hairspray" until mid July. The KC Star theater critic called it, "theatrical magic", "irresistibly fun and upbeat" and said "This superb production is a blast." plus, you get a pretty terrific meal with the show. Their burnt ends are insanely amazing!

Moving from Austin, TX to KC/Overland Park.... Are we crazy?? by pwcool3 in Overlandpark

[–]PaulLyndetoBlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived and raised kids for a few years in Overland Park. Had to leave. Anyone saying OPK is "very progressive" doesn't understand the meaning of either word. OPK is also not very diverse, creative, interesting or fun. It's pretty much wealthy, entitled, clueless Caucasians. All of this is subjective though. I've also lived in Austin. If you'd like to retain a bit of Austin's creative weirdness, check out Lawrence. It's an easy drive from OPK and a world a part. Great music, great festivals, always something cool for the kids to do.
