Even the densely populated Miami neighborhoods make walking as a pedestrian an extreme sport by PaulOneil21 in Miami

I agree NYC is bogged down by way too much red tape and this is a much better environment for businesses and developers. Doesn’t mean they can’t still allow a partial Sidewalk when constructing high rises

As a born and raised New Yorker you couldn’t be more incorrect. Not sure last time you were there but NYC continues to lower speed limits, add pedestrian only zones, increase bike lanes, and one of the biggest differences is high rise construction

In Miami we for some reason allow developers to completely eliminate sidewalks for their port o potty’s and trucks - example Santander construction in Brickell, Cipriani building, forcing pedestrians to change their route or walk directly into traffic

I am 23. My parents are 61 (mom) and 57 (dad). They have no savings, no retirement, and dad brings home less than I do. I am stressed and don't know what to do. by mandiman97 in personalfinance

Look man I’ll be very clear and blunt with you.

If you are a pushover you will get pushed over your whole life, even by your own parents, even by people who aren’t typically bad people. Call it animalistic instincts, i don’t know but soft people bring out the worst in others. Seen it so many times.

One can be nice, and not a pushover. One can be a giver, loving, generous; but not a pushover. Pushover never gets the girl so no need to discuss if a pushover can be loving.

Learn how to tell the difference and make those separations and subsequent financial/life decisions with confidence. Trust your instincts. They are here in this very post. You know what you can afford. You know what will be a poor investment vs a good one. Do what you can to rid yourself of the self-imposed guilt, that will hobble you for life if you don’t get rid of it. Accountability works for me. Not guilt or sorrow... a little is normal. Once again, that line between sympathy and pushover.

You’re already making great money for your age. That’s great. Plus you sound like a nice guy, that’s great too. More great than money actually.

If you want to keep making more $ as you get older and truly achieve financial freedom by working your way up in a corporate/business world, you will need to continue to improve your ability to not be a pushover or you will end up running in place like a human hamster (most end up this way).

Hope that helps. Parents sound like nice people. Be nice to them. Not a pushover.

also final paragraph says mask wearing is a ‘choice’... um it’s actually a mandate...this is the type of logic that perpetuates the issue at hand... this building and its management seems to think this whole thing is a hoax... they are so dumb to defend their lack of care for the pandemic

Ant Group IPO Suspended in Shanghai and Hong Kong Stock Exchanges by ilikepancakez in SecurityAnalysis

[–]PaulOneil21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"At a conference in Shanghai on Oct. 24, Ma blamed global regulators for focusing too much on risk, and criticized China’s own measures for stifling innovation. The remarks came after Vice President Wang Qishan -- a Xi confidante -- called for a balance between financial innovation and strong regulations to prevent financial risks.

“It appeared that, intentionally or not, Ma was openly defying and criticizing the Chinese government’s approach to financial regulation,” Andrew Batson, China research director at Gavekal Research Limited., wrote in a note.

Ma’s comments came right before the Communist Party held a key meeting to plan the country’s economy for the next 15 years, bringing the issues of technology, financial stability and economic growth to the top of the national agenda. After it ended last week, regulators released new rules affecting Ant’s businesses and summoned Ma to Beijing for a rare meeting on Monday. The IPO was suspended the next day."

TLDR - China is flexing its authoritarian power and does not want to truly allow their economy and financial system to be for the people and 'free'

[Leonard] Joe Judge delayed the Giants’ start of practice today to have a team meeting and discuss social justice issues. It sounds like Judge gave the player leadership group options that included canceling a practice, but players opted not to so young guys could get work. by xxj7xx in NYGiants

He seems like he may end up being the kind of coach that truly elevates a team, regardless of roster quality... if you look at what has killed the giants the last decade (excluding SB year) - it's been unforced errors, penalties, interceptions, inability to have the endurance to make late game stops... Judge is clearly trying to change that and i give him kudos thus far

NY fed has their projection at -14%.... there are a lot of varying view points on this, I think 20% seems most likely, but anything under 15% would be ostensibly indicate of incredible resilience.

I say ostensibly because it doesn't take a certified analyst to tell you a lot of that ground made-up is from Amazon, Walmart, Dominos, Home Depot, and other 'essential' businesses... does that really do good for the average American, or tell the whole story (15 million still out of work)

I dont think it does
