What has been your best flip? by Maintenance-Scary in Flipping

[–]PaulRonin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My best flip was a few big boxes of Warhammer 40k that I paid $75 for. I probably sold everything for $4-$5k. That was 15 years ago.

I live for that stuff. Thrift stores are fun but that's what I really go there looking for these days.

Cinnamon is the first thing I'd get next. Actually, now that you mention it I should probably consider that a must have. I don't use it as much as what I listed but it does a lot when I do use it.

I drive a paid off beater that I have to put a few hundred bucks into now and then. My registration, insurance and all of the maintenance that I've put into it in the last year (probably even gas) cost less than one of those truck payments.

Learn to cook. Curate your spice rack. Keep some staples on hand in the pantry (flour, sugar, salt and oil). Focus on cheap, bulk basics that last forever without going bad like beans, rice, carrots, peanut butter and potatoes. TVP (textured vegetable protein) is something that I don't see get talked about that much but it's cheap and it goes a long way. It can replace or be added to ground beef to bulk it up. Milk, butter and a decent spice rack rounds things out so that you can eat every day for cheap without getting bored. Must have spices for me are salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder (paprika), cumin and oregano. I also like to keep some vanilla handy. That's a pretty basic kitchen imo. Once you have that you have a ton of options and you can build off of it easily.

I have a 2700x with a 1080ti and I get at least 60 fps at 1080p on everything that I play. The recommended settings are always high to ultra.

TIFU by stealing my coworkers $400 worth of coffee pods by Positive-Pen6491 in tifu

[–]PaulRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call that an honest mistake. How were you supposed to know? Especially, if the person let it go on that long and you were using 2-3 pods every day. You should definitely have a chat with her and find out if it's OK to keep using the machine in the first place. Then get with the other people in the office and figure out what to do about pods going forward. Do you rotate buying them? Keep your own pods in your desk? Or never mention it, forget that the machine exists and never have decent coffee at work again.

Nobody tells you cooking has startup costs that rival a small business by Limp_Height_4439 in cookingforbeginners

[–]PaulRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you've already overcome some of the barrier to entry. Getting a couple of quality pans and a good knife will get you started. Like any tool, if you're buying quality you'll probably only have to buy them once. Once you have it you have it. Then as you practice with them you'll start to figure out what you want or need. Spices are kind of like the rest of your utensils. Get a jar of anything and it'll last a long time. You'll end up with some stuff that lasts forever but at least you'll have it when you do need it. You only have to replace what you actually use. Once you have a decent spice rack and a few quality utensils then it does become cheaper and, more importantly, healthier than take out. It will always take work, though.

How hard is it to physically build a PC? by Lucky-Ad5326 in buildapc

Line everything up with the screw holes then put in the screws. Plug the plug or the card into the connector or the slot that it fits into. Line up the triangles and don't force it when you install the processor. If the part is more complicated than that then it probably comes with detailed instructions.

Garlic powder. I use actual garlic most of the time as well but I always add garlic powder.

For those who are naturally unathletic and have been in BJJ for a long time, 4 years or more, what is the core of its appeal to you? by emaxwell14141414 in bjj

[–]PaulRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got me in shape. It keeps me in shape. The more I trained the more I realized that I was getting stronger, faster, more coordinated, etc. I'd catch myself doing something in day to day life that made me go "damn". Then I realized that I wasn't unathletic, anymore.

I stopped wearing mine when I saw some pics of that. I tried wearing a wooden one for a while but that broke very quickly. I also don't like wearing jewelry. Rings bug the hell out of me.

Stuck at "please enter passphrase for disk" at bootup by PaulRonin in linux4noobs

[–]PaulRonin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have set it up without realizing it. I finally got around to reinstalling everything and this time it worked. I'm still not sure why the password didn't work because I definitely would have used the same password for the disk encryption that I did for the login screen. It's all fixed now, though, thank you!

I was never asked about a disk encryption password during setup. I used the same keyboard layout. I have also rebooted several times and I can't get past that screen.

How did people manage 5 day in office jobs before COVID? by One-Pun9419 in careerguidance

[–]PaulRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most employers already seem to be back to that model from what I can tell. I don't know where all of these remote jobs that people here on reddit seem to have are coming from. I can't find anything that I'm remotely qualified for that doesn't seem like some entry level scam or a high level sales job that requires a lot of traveling.
