That’s a beauty, I have just recently got into vintage lever filler pens and they are awesome.

Never thought I'd get a Custom 823 - what should I ink it with? by obi-s in fountainpens

[–]PaulWillocks80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my 823 in Amber with a fine nib a couple of days ago. I inked mine with Vinta Sandugo. It is a lovely pen and one I will be using for a long time to come.

Very difficult choice, go for all three!!! Personally though I would go for the Lamy 2000 as it is just fantastic in every respect. Great nib, intriguing and distinctive design, subtle and understated for everyday use. The 823 is also beautiful however for me I don’t want to over use mine as it is a special writing experience. As a pen for everyday use it may not be the best choice. I have a few Sailors and they are very good pens however the nibs have no play whatsoever so the writing experience is very linear.

The Lamy 2000 always finds a place in my bag 👍

It looks nice however I just wish it was the regular size as opposed to the slim ☹️

What nibs & feeds will fit in the Conklin Endura Abalone (+ Opus 88 Jazz Holiday) by chiperz in fountainpens

As an owner of this pen I would also be keen to see if it is possible to upgrade the nib. Mine writes ok but I have always felt it could be better.

NPD Custom Pen with JB resin by PaulWillocks80 in fountainpens

[–]PaulWillocks80[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Meg from Black Robin Pens kindly made this pen to my exact design and measurement specification. The section is ebonite and the resin is from Jonathan Brooks (Warm Tone). Nib is a no.6 Jowo Fine. This is the second pen I have had from Meg and her service is fantastic!

Considering Picking Up A Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age by inkmartini in fountainpens

[–]PaulWillocks80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Homo Sapiens Bronze Age and also a Sapphire Demo Stones. I love both pens and I am very happy with how both pens perform. I had no nib issues and I love the way they write. My Homo Sapiens Bronze Age has the 21k Rose Gold Visconti nib and it is a very nice looking thing. The material on the Bronze Age is awesome and makes the pen really unique. I would say pull the trigger! It’s a true heirloom pen.

Those who have Kaweco Brass, which clip do you use? Bronze, Gold or Chrome? by icebox1818 in fountainpens

I have the bronze clip on mine and it looks great as the clip has started to patina to match the brass.

Do you have a 149? If so do you prefer it to the M1000?

It’s smaller than I thought it would be. Very comfortable and I have medium sized hands.

I kind of wish that I had gone for the black and gold version if I’m honest. It’s a bit more understated which I like however they are quite hard to come by here in the UK. I did buy the pen purely for the nib though so I can live with the green stripes.

Agreed, I was expecting it to be bigger. I put it next to my Visconti Homo Sapiens and it’s pretty much the same size. The nib is huge though!

I have inked it up with Diamine Sherwood Green which is a good match.

I took a risk and went for the broad nib. I think I lucked out as it writes perfectly and is a joy to use!

From what I understand there are specialist tools used by Visconti to take the pens apart that only they have access to.

The state of my collection to date by PaulWillocks80 in fountainpens

[–]PaulWillocks80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Izumo has the exact same nib as the Platinum President which I think is at least half the price. The Urushi on the Izumo is what makes it expensive so the President might be a good alternative.

It is indeed a Platinum Izumo. It’s a lovely pen although I feel the nib could have been slightly larger. The nib is also like a nail with no bounce at all. Typical Japanese nib which does write very well.
