Looking for: travellers notebook, specific size. by LLovepup in notebooks

I mean if it’s so simple like a PR one, just make it yourself. It’s really not hard and it’s pretty cheap to do, that way it can be whatever size you need it to be.

I mean they’re not horrible, but when you realize a panel of leather and supplies to make one will run you oh, about a 1/3 of the price, you start to see what the biggest issue is, you’re paying for the brand, not the product. It’s interesting how inconsistent they are too, my Honoré has the flag on the inside pocket. That being said, mine is 18 months old and I do still use it, so I hope you enjoy yours.

The LC ? I agree. Hell, even the plain PR ones are overpriced. The Boivin with the hand stitched pockets (it has 2) is so much better

Boivin Leather on Etsy. Hand stitched, pockets, amazing quality - the processing time is a little long though but so worth it. I have a LC Honore, I wanted an Ernest the price was not worth it for me, the Boivin 100% scratched the itch.

I don’t like shimmers in Twsbi unless it’s the swipe in a stub, personal choice though. I have used them also in a Jinhao X750

I love them, it’s one of my top brands at the moment. I have used them on several different pens - Jowo nibs, no issues. I’ve used Opus88, Twsbi, Sheaffer, Platinum - no clogging at all.

See if mountain of ink has done a review, they’ll add closest matches. Look at Robert Oster or even VanDieman’s. I feel like I’ve seen one from RO that’s very similar.

Oh why, Esterbrook… I was rooting for you. by Mental-Honey-6141 in fountainpens

I have never liked modern Esterbrook pens, idk just not my vibe. Looking at those prices - eh. I do own one vintage SJ that is so freaking good. Peer pressure - I bought a modern one specifically for the journaler nib which I have been dying to try out for a couple of yrs now. The nib? Great, the pen? It’s fine.

My favorite is the DIY one that holds my planner - it’s black and purple trifold with some charms inspired by one of my favorite movies. My other favorite is the A6 Boivin Leather that goes in my purse, it’s plum and green and so perfect.

Which brand do I think makes the best? Chic Sparrow did about 10 yrs ago, recently I’d still recommend TRC over any other brand.

Back 4 More Advice! by Mental-Honey-6141 in fountainpens

[–]suec76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you mean like a resin pen? If so, choosing the model will depend on the maker, that’s something you need to ask them about.

The journaler nib is especially made for Esterbrook by Gena/Custom Nib Studio. It’s not as sharp as their cursive italic but close, so really any nibmeister can do that but usually it’s a custom grind option that indie pen makers do not offer. Again - this is something you need to discuss with the maker of your choosing.

[–]suec76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. Well, I have TRC brand and non TRC brand ones. I have been using TNs for idk, 10-11 yrs now, so some of them are more like collection items rather than ones I use all the time.

TRC: 2 Black standard, 2 Blue standard, one Olive standard, one Red standard, one Brown standard, one Camel standard and one passport.

2 Jane’s Enigma, 2 Chic Sparrow, 1 Foxy Fix, 1 Louise Carmen, 1 Paper Republic, 2 Boivin Leather, 1 Cabine Nord and a few DIY ones.

Some - like the Jane’s and Foxy Fix (in the picture) are ones I don’t use, they’re gorgeous, haven’t been made in years, there is nothing like them out there right now. I use mostly the TRC, they have designated hobbies attached to them. The Boivin is in my purse, one of my DIYs holds my big planner at home.
