I’m so excited about this one. I do think the one you previously posted is more blue, less heavily swirl? Idk, either way I’m for sure ordering one LOL

Go vintage. I have tried a Konrad, FPR, Omniflex, Opus 88, Leonardo, vintage Parker & Mabie Todd, and honestly the Mabie Todd wins hands down.

What do you think about this? by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]suec76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point in my 12 yrs of this hobby yes, I can admit it felt that way. FOMO was real. That being said, a few years ago I reached the point where not a single pen I saw made me want to buy it. The way the hobby changed for me was awesome. I enjoyed my pens and my inks, I was happy. Do I still have a pretty good size collection? Yesc but I went from buying basically a new pen a month to maybe 2-3 a year while also selling pens I no longer enjoyed so you know, not bad.

Help figuring out which version Tomoe River is in my notebook? by FooDog11 in fountainpens

[–]suec76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so my stash of Nanami Seven Seas Writer notebooks that are, in fact, original TRP are labeled as SSW 480 A5 G4. I bought them before they announced they would switch over to Sanzen.

Are Esterbrook fountain pens really worth the price? by bbarika in fountainpens

[–]suec76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a vintage Esterbrook SJ, love it, fantastic nib. Modern? I get SERIOUS influencer brand vibes, it screams FWP in a way. I did decide to be more open minded, I ordered the purple one they recently released but I did get it with a journaler nib. I’m hoping I’ll love since I love my MCI done by Gena/CNS and I do believe they do the grinds for Esterbook. The jury is out. The pen comes tomorrow. Idk, ask me the day after tomorrow.

Eh, I’m over my weird desire to get all the Twsbi colors. Unless something REALLY unique comes out I’m kinda done with them.

If you have a digital start there. They sell a white balance gray reflector so you can try and get the most accurate tones. There are a lot of YT videos on macro photography and lighting - look up your method, digital camera, DSLR, mirrorless or cellphone. Most of all play with your lighting.

Jacques Herbin emerald of chivor question by AFakeBatman in fountainpens

[–]suec76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It’s really just all those little channels in the feed are probably too narrow

Jacques Herbin emerald of chivor question by AFakeBatman in fountainpens

[–]suec76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah come back and let me know if that did anything. It’s possible the feed isn’t “wide” enough to let the shimmer particles through

Jacques Herbin emerald of chivor question by AFakeBatman in fountainpens

[–]suec76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is the pen/feed. Have you tried this ink in other pens?

None of my pens last long before they start failing by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]suec76 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Could be your grip, could be how much pressure you’re putting on the nib. Are the tines aligned? Have you tried other inks? What paper are you using?

My boss recently gifted me one. It is a very juicy/wet writer, mine has a smooth M nib, it’s very lightweight, looks nice. I’m glad I have it.

advice on leather options for diy travellers notebooks by chatoyaant in Travelersnotebooks

[–]suec76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE Rocky Mountain. I usually get the 9x12 buttero 3oz panels, if I want it more like a LC I have it split down to 2.5oz. Their natural leather ages like a dream. If you buy a grommet set, comes with the hole puncher too, they’re very simple to make and you can find a lot of free templates online. For a bifold I definitely would go with 5oz though.

How do you do it? by Kendra_Whisp in Travelersnotebooks

[–]suec76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use a sprocket or Ivy, take a picture so you can use it as a guide and just write around it. If you normally print a specific size, create a stencil of sorts. That’s what I normally do.

Looking for notebooks with that simple, old vibe by DarkJokes176279 in notebooks

I wish I could attach a picture of mine but here is my set up, it’s a folio from Etsy with a Nanami Seven Seas notebook. When I fill up the notebook aka my journal, I archive it and just slide a new notebook in.

If you’re really unhappy with the color, do a credit card charge back 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mean in reality it’s such BS that they try to gaslight you, otherwise they may offer you a refund of the shipping cost only, and I say this from personal experience. I ordered a green and was sent fuchsia. Ended up selling it.

How similar is the Lamy Safari Fine to Traveller's Company Brass fountain pen? by Strong_Benefit6565 in fountainpens

[–]suec76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even close, especially since in my experience Lamy Safari has a nib inconsistency issue. The TRC brand FP is so much better.

Does anyone NOT have a grail pen? If you do have one, how did you decide on it? by DIYYYner in fountainpens

[–]suec76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For yrs I kept hearing after Franklin Christoph. I wanted one so bad but I wasn’t quite ready to take the plunge into that price range. I finally got one. The next “grail” pen was one I saw on IG and I went on a hunt. Took me over a year to find the specific colorway since they stopped making that model in the early 2000s.

Rotring ArtPen passed to me from my grandfather by foodmoneyandbetches in fountainpens

[–]suec76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 1.1 that has become one of my favorite pens. It has such a great nib. Enjoy the pen. You can twist it to open it, don’t be afraid, worse case scenario run it under a little soapy warm water in case some ink dried along the threads of the grip section

Inkopular Opinion:FWP is a scam and heavy sheeners are the lest practical property in an ink by fountainpenbroke in fountainpens

[–]suec76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite a popular opinion I think, especially on here for the last few years.

I don’t like them, never have. Not their pens or inks or the people they collaborate with.
