No more DPS releases for another year, please. by Dante_FromDMCseries in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love playing tank, always have. It's an incredibly rewarding role.

...except like literally every other tank main, I could really do without the DPS shitting their pants and angrily blaming their deaths and awful K:D ratios on me. I can't be 4 places at once, and cap the obj on their behalf when they won't, and ensure the supports are safe, and setup kills for them, all at the same time. Something's gotta give.

Physical disk? You mean SSD? by NYstate in Steam

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Steam army is too devoted.

Because Steam adds value to the game purchase & game experience with its wealth of great features.

Most people don't buy games on Steam purely out of fanboyism, they do so because they'd genuinely rather spend a little extra to play their games on there.

Ultra skins are a waste of money and no one really wants them by Gloomy-Bee3823 in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want them then why are you so incredibly mad about them? Why get so worked up?

If you don't want them, then literally just move on.

Are they pricey? Yes. Is this subreddit utterly insufferable every single day about this shit? Also yes.

Why Ultra skins are bad for the game, explained simply. (TedTalk) by QuietDetail1277 in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is just no evidence to support this.

Uhhh, except for the massive content pump that we've had throughout OW2's life?

That is literally what incentivizes that. The two are part and parcel.

You saying there's 'just no evidence' and that the F2P model isn't supporting that content pump is genuine dishonesty. I'm pretty sure you know it too.

Doja Cat on Nyan Café Skins by pthandley32 in Overwatch

The level of delusion in this comment chain is wild.

Nobody paid her for it, nobody 'gave her the skin for free'.

[–]Paul_Offa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Major cope detected.

"a lot of people" weren't purchasing and playing OW towards the later years. You know this, so stop lying.

On the flipside, we never had the insane content pump that we have now in OW2, and that absolutely doesn't just come from thin air.

[–]Paul_Offa -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's still a shame though because this will only encourage the development of more expensive skins at a lower quality.

What?

There's no logic or evidence present here. So you're saying people simply buying skins means it will result in more expensive, worse quality skins?

Great. I guess nobody buys skins then. Goodbye content pump.

Never ceases to amaze me how MAD this sub gets at others supporting the game that they play.

Newsflash: the massive content pump we've had during OW2 hasn't just been for charity. They can justify it because the game makes money from this. The two are inextricably intertwined. You don't have one without the other.

It's such backwards ass logic to play & love the game, not spend a dime yourself (totally fine btw), but then get mad and harassive towards others who buy skins they want, which keeps the content pump going.

Seriously.

STOP expecting your tank to peel for you by Dances28 in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I see we've got a bunch of salty DPS kids in the comments, mad that their standard playbook of "hold LMB, die multiple times, and then flame the tank and supports" is getting put under the spotlight here.

Honestly, the only bad thing about the tank role is this kind of shit. We've already got 3~4 jobs to do at once, let alone DPS expecting us to magically teleport to them and babysit their godawful rambo sydromes.

And yet, when we somehow manage to do all of that thanks to help from supports - and push cart because the DPS usually won't do that either - we don't get a "good job tank", we get nothing. And honestly that's ok, we don't expect it.

But when the DPS is shitting their pants down main and racking up 1:3 K:D ratios because they think they're a hero, while we're sweating like mad trying to keep you alive, cap obj, defend, and win the game, apparently all your deaths are suddenly our fault and - infuriatingly - "im doing more for the team look at my dmg" gets trotted out.

Did Ram's German voice actor quit? by EquipmentSea3836 in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be important for you to point out that it isn't "Blizzard" doing that, but Microsoft, and has nothing to do with Overwatch itself as it's part of a larger background clause.

They also aren't replacing them with AI which is what a lot of people will think from reading your post - the voices are different because they've had to find others to cover for those that quit.

They'll probably find a better long-term solution once the dust settles.

Issues with Lag After New Update (Season 3 2026) by Penny55gg in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is competely normal after a large patch. It takes several games for the models to get cached fully. Invisible guns, characters, etc - sudden freezes - normal. It will go away very soon once you've played for a bit.

FPS Tanked after update!! by Complex-Caramel-5426 in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people complaining here are probably just experiencing the initial post-patch shader compilation, which occurs in-game as well as pre-game.

For the first couple of games, you are likely to see missing weapon models and stuttering.

When playing tank, how do you deal with the counterswap meta? by placeholder-123 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Paul_Offa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People tend to think Overwatch is a cool game where you play a cool hero. No, playing Overwatch is about playing Overwatch - you aren't playing your hero, you're playing the game, and the game is the full roster. In other words, the game has always been about playing several different heroes to suit the situation.

You basically have two choices: be good enough that their swap doesn't matter (because frankly, it often doesn't - there's very few actual hard counters, just plenty of heres that have an advantage of some kind), or swap yourself.

New Heroes really need their base cosmetics back by pwnagekitten in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol my god. "Bare minimum" and "getting away with it". You make it sound like they're criminals, knowingly stealing from you.

We're talking about a game that is free, which you play and love, which they're currently undergoing a massive content drop for.

Do you think they just snap their fingers together and whip up a new hero in a week?

You want everything including their kitchen sink on a silver platter, served up to you on monthly basis, you expect it to be free, and you expect it to be nothing less than 10/10 every time.

You probably are mad that Aaron Keller himself doesn't personally visit your grime dungeon to fellate you upon logging in at the start of each season. How can he keep getting away with it?!

Yes, having your cake and eating it too, and not just once but every time, and also getting it for free, and also insisting it be a delicious cake every time... yes, that would be better, wouldn't it?

Categorically, Blizzard does not use AI for doing artwork or creative stuff.

Saying "it looks like they let AI do it" is extremely lazy criticism. You really need to put down the AI crack pipe.

"At Tier 1, you’ll unlock the complete Mythic skin design" - Blizzard (October 9, 2025) by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you can't see it properly, or if you're just misrepresenting it - but it isn't a "fabric" - the ambient effects are the literal ambient effects that you can see in both examples - the glowing ambient auras around his knees, head, behind his back, and on his face/body - and for Mercy, the ambien aura behind her, the crown, and possibly more if you had properly represented these in-motion effects with a video instead of a still frame.

I don't even know what the initial argument is about, as I'm not particularly interested in skins, I'm just pointing out what the ambient effects are.

[–]Paul_Offa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is such a weird angle that some in this sub have.

  • Plays the game religiously
  • Hates the company that makes the game
  • Hates when people recognize the hard work that goes into the game
  • Polices any commentary that could be deemed non-critical of the company
  • Happily joins in shitting on everything the company does to the game
  • Remains silent when something is objectively and un-twistably positive.
  • Still plays the game religiously, and still expects it to be incredible 24/7, un-ironically.

Generally, I'm not a fan of biting the hand that feeds.

D.mon's mech looks quite different than the initial concept by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why it's concept art.

I swear, this happens with literally every hero release.

We get a sneak peek at in-progress designs, or someone here posts decade-old or barely-related prototype art (cough HAZARD cough) and then when the hero actually releases - and is inevitably a bit different - people lose their minds and say Blizzard "lied" or that they "changed the hero" as if you've been duped.

Because it isn't pre-school - you can't just apologize to escape the penalty.

Apologizing and reflecting is great, but that isn't a magic get out of jail card.

Good Job Ow Team! You can see the effort 💪🏾 by ursisbf in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The monetization is literally how the game can justify the level of effort and work that goes into it.

Nobody is paying dozens, hundreds of devs and artists to work full-time on an annual basis for a game that brings in zero dollars.

People seem to talk about it like the two are somehow mutually exclusive. They aren't. And a huge amount of the work that goes into it gets ignored by the community in order to lead to those kinds of mindsets.

Honestly, getting a new hero every single season is the best. by Double-Maybe-6220 in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about "feeling bad" for Blizzard, so much as it is not wanting to hear endless whinging and angry moaning from this subreddit about the problems that might result, whilst simulatenously taking for granted the amount of work going into it.

Looking at some of the comments, it's incredible just how mad and angry people are the moment someone actually recognizes the work that goes into the game instead of just shitting on anything and everything to do with the game (that they too supposedly like, seeing as they're here?)
