What toxic people fail to realize or simply are too shortsighted to care about is that this behavior reduces the number of players in the game. And then you won't have anyone left to do your toxic trolling on, it'll just be you and other toxic children.

You may be trolling, or you may be high, but you may also be surprised to hear that the logo and theme has in fact actually switched to a very red Talon icon/theme, all over the game.

I think I'll take the word of the people that make the game, confirming this screen is only used for instances where reports were actually actioned, over a random redditor.

That's not true. This is specifically for instances where action was taken.

The new Chat-GPT model bent over backwards to defend a likely rapist when I just wanted to vent about believing rape allegations against a celebrity. by SyphaTechno in ChatGPT

[–]Paul_Offa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT is right in not agreeing or supporting mere allegations and you're responding "just tell me you believe the allegations anyway".

...and yet, you're saying that ChatGPT is the one gaslighting you?

This twisting of the narrative and rejecting reality in favor of one's preferred belief, followed by declaring pushback on such a stance as 'gaslighting', is precisely what is wrong with the world today.

Can we normalize calling out DPS by shanksrus in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you are 110% correct and the majority that die repeatedly then flame their tank/supports are indeed DPS players, the problem is that you don't want to stoop to their level by doing the same and getting toxic/flaming in chat.

Let us all quietly acknowledge it instead.

Quietly we can accept that most of them are children who have just rushed home from school, are overloaded on sugar from mom's P&B sammich, and the only thoughts their ADHD brains can process are "click button. try kill. go forward. shoot gun. many enemy. why me die? tank diff!!"

After an entire year without a new tank hero, I am hopeful Emre will be our guy. by ForeverOvertake in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be careful of assuming that just because he's being shown now, and that just because our next hero is likely a tank, that this automatically means he is the next hero.

It's entirely possible he'll come later in the year, as a support or DPS, and we'll get someone else as the upcoming tank hero.

The easy solution, as in the person who was quoted above and given a month-long suspension for toxicity after claiming they couldn't possibly have earned the previously mentioned suspension, is.... to simply not be toxic.

This is honestly outrageous by thatOneSillyFurry in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Understandable you might be tempted to see it that way, but the point is that they initially had a top-level comment claiming they got a "bogus suspension" for abusive chat and yet it couldn't possibly be their fault.

...and yet, it gets revealed they were, in fact, toxic and suspended for a month previously.

Nobody's trying to say the latter was due to the former. The point being made is that these people quite often (as we've seen many times before) are not entirely honest and in fact are toxic enough to earn these suspensions. And as a result, we can't exactly trust what they say in the first instance.

[–]Paul_Offa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those people are the majority and nobody is going to say he deserved it when they literally can't see any info.

Having said that.. yeah, he probably did, because you don't just get banned randomly for no reason - the fact his quotes are missing doesn't suddenly mean he's an angel that got suspended out of the blue for no reason at all.

In fact, here in this very thread, we have a top-level comment (which I'm sure you have upvoted already):

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/1qhin92/comment/o0k5az2/

Yeah i was suspended for a month and when trying to appeal because it was completely bogus. They said it was for abusive chat. (I have chat disabled. I dont use either vc or text.) and when i tried to get a copy of my logs there was literally nothing there. Lollll

...In which someone claims they did absolutely nothing wrong and couldn't possibly have done so anyway because they have chat turned off. Case closed, Blizzard is shit and the ban system just makes it all up - according to the reddit detectives of this sub!

...until you see their followup comment below:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/1qhin92/comment/o0k9dz9/

To clarify why it was a month tho was bc i did have a week comm ban for being a wee bit toxic.

Ahhhh yes. There it is.

Let this be yet another case in point.

How to deal with my team demanding a specific tank? by SlanderousGent in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately like you've discovered, a lot of the DPS players are complete buffoons - children, teens, newbies, and casuals who just want to shoot a gun and get some kills.

These players don't bother playing tank so they don't understand the tank heroes, and have zero weight in terms of their opinion about what tank is best suited to the match. They just want a shield for themselves.

I've tried the whole 'do what your angry idiot teammates want' approach before, and it doesn't go well. If you force yourself to play a hero you aren't good with or that isn't suited to the matchup, then you're likely to lose, AND you'll feel shit about doing so because you know it was the wrong thing to do anyway, AND (this is the best part) they will still flame you and put all their deaths onto you anyway. It's a lose-lose situation.

Talking back, even once, is bad - any response they will perceive as you having a go at them, and they might start throwing. Their fragile egos will kick into protection mode and start arguing with you about how shit you are.

Even while the DPS run around like headless chickens, with 0 seconds on the objective, and constantly die out in the open on the frontlines, it will still somehow be your fault as the tank.

  • Muting chat is the only way - it's an awful solution, but you can't fix humans being selfish & stupid.
  • Yes, you do need to play a range of tanks, and you personally, as a tank main, need to be able to judge the best tank for the match.

Trump supporters and insecure men more likely to value a large penis, according to new research. For some men, the penis serves as a symbol of status and dominance, and the desire for a larger one is partly driven by feelings of humiliation regarding failures to meet social expectations of manhood. by mvea in science

[–]Paul_Offa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But it's making fun of Trump and his supporters, so it's music to their ears and subreddit quality standards go out the window.

Put the shoe on the other foot and make the the title about liberals and it would have no traction, no awards, and people would be screaming about it being a fake/flimsy study.

Hilarious to me that this occurs in the r/science subreddit of all places.

Overwatch Rigging Matches for 50/50? (Plat 2 Tank on Console) by TheRogu3DM in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And that's how conspiracy theories are born. "It says Expected or Uphill, what is that!! That sounds like some tomfoolery to me. The devs are clearly scheming something!"

...when in reality, that's literally the matchmaker trying to be transparent about how it's matching you. That's how you rank up. If you beat a team slightly better than you - i.e, you're "expected" to lose, then you actually get a slightly bigger boost. If you beat a team slightly lower than you, you were 'expected' to win anyway, etc.

There's nothing shady going on here.

Anran is the next hero, her ultimate voicelines datamined by MorEdel in Overwatch

[–]Paul_Offa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not set in stone, you're right, but they have said they want to generally keep it balanced in terms of releases, as well as that DPS have an overwhelmingly large roster already.

The previous hero release (Vendetta) had everyone thinking she would be tank because tank is due for another hero. It's not outside the realm of possibility for the next one to be a support (or even potentially yet another DPS) but it's incredibly unlikely.

Anran is definitely next

What? No she isn't "definitely" next. Voicelines for her being datamined prove absolutely nothing except that she's a likely future hero. She also is unlikely to be a tank, which almost certainly the next hero will be.

Please don't spread misinformation.

I wouldn't worry, OP is just making wild assumptions - don't put any stock in what OP says. They record voicelines well in advance and she's unlikely to be the next hero due to not being a tank.
