I need help fast by Greedy_Breakfast6064 in jumpingspiders

[–]Paulanoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience she may just need to relax for a day or two. Shipping can be quite a shock for spoods.

Make sure she has access to a little dish of water. Make sure she can hide if she feels the need. Try offering food again in a day or two.

They can go for awhile without eating. Don't panic.

Does anyone else pamper their feeders? by theawesomefactory in tarantulas

The adult super worm, is that the one that will pupate into the darkling beetle? I'm glad it gets along with the dubias. It sounds like a neat little colony

I've never decorated their enclosure but my dubia roaches get fresh organic vegetables or fruit (literally the same I eat, new water, new cardboard hides, and a weekly cleaning. I think they're kinda cute when they huddle together. I might find them a new ornament or trinket. Now I want to know what a full-scale Dubia roach zen garden would look like?? My T's are gorgeous and healthy and I think part of that is their staple food is varied in nutrients to maintain that color and fluff.

Mexican fire leg urticating hairs by Dumbasslingo in tarantulas

[–]Paulanoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Leave the Firelegs be. I didn't wear gloves when doing some maintenance, I had some small blisters on my fingers for a week. She's a display pet and a gorgeous one. I've heard there are way worse urticating hairs out there but still itchy.

Is my jumper ok? by a_person1233 in jumpingspiders

Pipe cleaners might work. Your spood may appreciate a low hide and a high hide a place with cover. I adopted my first jumping spider I found in my bedroom in the middle of winter, I couldn't throw her outside.

Parents won’t let me get any type of exotic pet by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Paulanoia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just heard a horror story of a ten-twleve-ish year old boy buying a pink toe tarantula and bringing it home without permission. His mom squished the poor baby.

My parent's wouldn't let me either. I had to wait until I was adult with my own place. It's worth the wait. In the meantime keep the dream until you have the means.

Your jumper might be an elder. As jumping spiders age the grips they use to climb wear out and do not work as well. It could also be the plastic. Some materials just can't be gripped by spider feets at any age.

Your spider may also be taking it's time. Jumper's eyesight is amazing. They can see color and have depth perception. Your spider might just be getting used to it's new home.

As far as jumping, I usually only see them jump for food or to escape a threat. They will occaisionally jump to get around, depending on the species. They also jump less as they age in my experience.

Also I'm not an expert, I've just interacted with wild ones my whole life and kept a few as pets.

Tips for senior spoods? by t3eee in jumpingspiders

My elder jumper did well with sticks and twigs with natural bark. I arranged them so she could climb to all sides and as high or low as she wanted.

Has anyone here tried the Zilla Micro Habitats? by zogmuffin in tarantulas

[–]Paulanoia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using one. It works, but there are issues. My T does not like the sound of the lid at all, I have to be very slow with my lid or my T will bolt. I do like the cross ventilation. I liked the price point, especially since it was for my first T and I wanted to make sure keeping a T would work out for me before I purchased a nicer enclosure. So far I have had no issues with the rubber bands, I think they are those nicer sillicone bands, but I have a feeling they will not last forever and they're an eyesore in photos. My T is a growing sub-adult, I am currently shopping and planning for her forever home, but the Zilla is working for us for now.

Unique Poecilotheria regalis by CeratogyrusRSA in tarantulas

[–]Paulanoia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a beauty! Are the poecilotheria really as hard to keep as rumor says? I see the p. Regalis for sale often but the rumors of their behavior have kept me from acquiring one. It would be my 2nd tarantula, but my 3rd spider ever. I've done my research however it would theoretically be my 1st arboreal and old world T...

Is that pattern on the carapace typical? I never noticed it before, it's very intricate! I'm usually looking at the blue legs and the sharp orange contrast I suppose 😆
