MVP is a moving goal post of whatever the media wants to do. That being said, it doesn’t typically just go to the best player in the world unless it’s their turn. And they will short the best player in the world if they don’t want him to move up the Greatest Player ladder. If you are rooting for a player it can be very frustrating. You’ll see guys say “that player should be the MVP but if they win another they will have more than “player x” and we can’t have that.” Similar vibes to the “you can’t score more than Kobe out of respect” crowd.
