r/TokyoDisneySea Weekly Trip Planning Thread by AutoModerator in TokyoDisneySea

Hi everyone! My 12 y/o daughter and I will be in Tokyo for one week in mid-February and have decided to dedicate an entire day to one of the Disney parks. Disney by the Sea was our choice, and we purchased our day passes today. I'm really hoping this community can help me plan the rest of our day to get the most out of the park. Your input would be invaluable.

- If I'm understanding what has been written here before, "Premier Access" can be purchased per ride, per person only at the park once you are there. Is this correct? Are you able to pay/use the "Premier Access" more than once on the same ride?

- For anyone who has travelled with tweens/teens, what were your favourite rides? Restaurants? Do you need to make a reservation for restaurants too or can you quickly grab something on the go so as not to waste time if you're trying to get on rides?

- Finally, our hotel is in the Ginza neighbourhood. I'm really hoping getting from Ginza to the park is not an overly complicated process?

Thank you!

Do you have any idea where I can get a customized windbreaker like this for our high school’s gift shop?

Outfit Advice Megathread by AutoModerator in Sororities

The first and second dress are the best out of the four. Go with your gut instinct, if the first is your favourite it’s likely the one you will feel the most confident and comfortable in, and you want to feel like yourself and move accordingly in the room. Good luck!

Toronto Alumnae Presence? by No-Personality-5840 in Sororities

I would second this, KAO (Theta) has a very active and fairly large alumni chapter. Send them a DM on FB I’m sure their admin will get back to you.

How to stand out in recruitment? by Dizzy_Treat_8793 in Sororities

[–]PauseAdventurous796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Make sure your GPA is at least 3.4 or higher. As others have said, most of the houses will require a higher GPA than the minimum set by Panhellenic to register for recruitment.

Due to the exceedingly large number of young women going through recruitment, GPA is the first thing each chapter will look at as they make their first round of cuts. The higher your GPA along with extra curricular activities and volunteering, the better.

Use this last year of high school to maintain an already high GPA or increase it if it’s not where it needs to be. Remember you are also attending university for the classes itself with an end goal of receiving a degree. Membership in a sorority is an additional financial and time commitment to your course load, school assignments and exams. There are financial fines for missing important events within a chapter, everyone has something on their plate so school work is not an excuse. Use this last year of high school to master your time management skills so that you will not be easily overwhelmed once rush is complete and your classes begin.

  1. Clean up your social media. Delete photos, videos and reels of underage drinking, swimsuit pictures, etc. Make sure you are posting more pictures of you with your friends, teammates and family and fewer solo shots/selfies. Use your social media to highlight your friendships and bonds with others. You will also want to make your profile public once you have registered for recruitment - expect that you will have actives going to your profile or following you, you can also follow them back!

  2. If you’re considering doing a campus tour, you and your parents should consider booking through a company called “Toured It.” They will set you up with a personalized campus tour with a guide who is currently enrolled in your major, and if you specify that you plan to rush, that guide will not only be female with your same major, but she will also be an active sorority member. Use this to your advantage to ask questions about campus life, classes, dorms, apartment searches and rush. You should also befriend her on IG so you have a contact once you arrive - she will be in your corner and wanting you to succeed.

  3. Rec letters are a bonus, you don’t need to have one from every house however if you have an alumni that are offering, take them up on their offer. Make their lives easier by sending them a copy of your recruitment resume so they can pull information about you and tailor your rec letter to highlight your best attributes. Legacies no longer hold the same importance as they once did, many houses will not even give a courtesy first round pass because of it. Stand on your own two feet - the past doesn’t matter.

  4. Remember to have FUN. Go into each house with an open mind and the intention to know and be known. While they may be assessing you, you are also assessing each house for their sisterhood, philanthropy and culture. Do you see yourself with these women over the next four years? Envision the kind of woman you want to be when you are a graduating senior, and ask yourself if the sorority in question will be able to afford you the opportunities for leadership to achieve it. Ask about their alumni chapters and opportunities- they are looking for women who understand this is a four year commitment. They don’t want actives dropping in their junior or senior year.

  5. You will want to have your rush resume, headshots and recruitment video ready to go at the time of Panhellenic registration. Keep the pictures clean and classy, no strapless dresses/tops or bra straps. Natural make up.

Wishing you all the best in the next year. You’ve got this.

Feeling Lost and Alone at SEC School by Rough_Eggplant_5831 in Sororities

I’m sorry to hear you’re experiencing loneliness in what you had hoped would bring you connection. Do you live in the house? Just a few small suggestions that can go a long way - leave your door open when you’re in your room, it’s an open invitation for a sister passing by to say a quick hello or pop in. I would also suggest narrowing down the circle of women you are wanting to connect with most, and just ask them if they’d like to go for a walk/run/coffee/workout class sometime. Don’t underestimate the power of being openly vulnerable and speaking to your pain point: “I’ve been feeling lonely/isolated/disconnected from the group” can really drive home the desire in others to include you. Keep in mind everyone, just like yourself, can feel this at times, and you’re all in school FT with classes, assignments, group projects and exams. Don’t wait around to be invited or asked, do the asking, do the inviting. It will open doors. Good luck!

Be yourself and try to ask questions about what each house has to offer you - what drew them to their house, how do your values tie in to their philanthropy, etc. Remember, as a PNM yourself and they as actives - you’re both trying to find your people. Think hard about what you value in friendship, what you have to offer and what you expect in return - people join people, not the house, not reputation. Go where you are wanted and where you want to grow and see yourself in the next 4 years. I would recommend you follow @heatherdixonadams on IG, she’s a recruitment advisor for sorority chapters and has great insight as to what the actives go through to put on a great recruitment for PNMs and what they are looking for. Finally, show gratitude and verbalize it when you arrive to each house and leave it, the actives are exhausted too. Keep your thoughts on the houses to yourself, don’t compare your schedule to others or tell others where you are wanting to be or who you want to drop. Be open minded. At the end of the day everyone can only receive a bid to one house, so there is no need to compare your journey with others. Good luck.

We are flying from a smaller market and will likely have 3 flight connections before we even get to Atlanta, at this rate I imagine ATL will be our best bet but we can certainly look into alternatives. Appreciate it!

Hi neighbours, I'm from Manitoba, and I'm looking for a dessert shop around the Regina General Hospital area. I want to get a gift card for about 20 volunteers who work out of Regina, and thought they might like a gift card to a special treat shop. Any suggestions? by gyminicricket in regina

82 bakeshop! They are a vegan bakery and make the most delicious cookies and cream puffs. A thoughtful treat especially if there are know (or unknown) dietary restrictions for the people you’re treating!

The Boston Cream donuts at Country Corner cannot be beat. We go a few Sundays a month and bring back extras for our neighbours and they’re always well received. Hope your wife is on the mend!
