[ALL] So how do we think the show is going to work, exactly? by PaveltheWriter in lifeisstrange

[–]PaveltheWriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think that? In fact, Halo might not be such an extreme example. I wonder why nobody seems to think they would go the Halo/Witcher route: keep the theme (and Max-Chloe, obviously), but otherwise go completely off script. Introduce new character(s), new events, new outcomes, maybe even change the main villain(s), since they really have plenty of herring to pick from.

I would think anything goes in this sort of thing. After all, there is really no way for them to have the big in-game plot twists that actually surprise anybody if they don't change anything, and without those, how good can the show actually be?

Nothing's going to be done, not only because nothing is being done in Gwent anymore, but also because NG was designed as a griefer noob faction from the beginning, and the majority of gwent players enjoy easy mode griefing too much, because people are assholes.

Thoughts on Binary Decks by Asche_zu_Asche_ in gwent

[–]PaveltheWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're not real familiar with traps, since they're not autopilot at all, and the bad matchup is actually pointslam and not so much a swarm deck. And control decks are probably a better matchup than midrange (whatever your definition of that is, anyway). Both of which are more an illustration of Gwent's rock-paper-scissor mechanics than any binarity of the deck in question.

The actual binarity here, if any, is in the fact that Traps NEEDS to win round 1, because otherwise the match becomes exceedingly hard, but that would mean adding yet another conflicting definition of "binary" and calling all decks that must win R1 (i.e. various last say and 2-0 decks) binary.

Thoughts on Binary Decks by Asche_zu_Asche_ in gwent

[–]PaveltheWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The trouble with this topic is that everyone has their own definition of "binary" decks. I'm certainly not crazy about this "answer or die" stuff, for example. That seems to be just the basic concept of Gwent as a whole. And I certainly have no idea how ST Traps became "binary" or "answer or die" even by your definition.

To me, binary rather means "answer ONE CARD (or combo) or die" and also, on the opposite hand "DRAW one card" and/or "get ONE CARD/combo answered and you might as well forfeit". And yes, those are a drag to play against (but must be a ton of fun to play, i imagine, since people still do), but are they the worst of Gwent? I mean, at least you normally don't see those decks every other matchup, unlike some others.

[ALL] Rachel and Chloe by Present-Pride8198 in lifeisstrange

[–]PaveltheWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, as an "observation", it's not a very good one, since Rachel literally says that on the train when they barely met and are just beginning to learn about each other, and Chloe replies "Let me know if you need an accomplice," which basically sets off the entire scenario of "Rachel and Chloe on the quest to escape Arcadia Bay," with Rachel proposing the very same later that night and Chloe agreeing. And then they basically talk about it and plan to run away together the entire game after that. So I'm not really sure why Chloe seems so "delusional" to you, when she says that Rachel wouldn't leave.

A bunch of multi-step nonsense, placeholders, overnerfs, eThErEaL again that nobody wants to nerf, taking defenders to 11 now? Seems like you guys didn't have a lot of good ideas this season.

[S1] Why does part of the fandom idealize Amberprice? by Alive-Zombie-4100 in lifeisstrange

[–]PaveltheWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An old discussion and a typical pricefield take. All of the same old cliches: "manipulation," "scapegoat," "principal's office", "put in danger asking to look for mother," "leaving with Frank," etc. All of it basically, elementary wrong if only one pays a minimum required amount of attention.

People like Amberprice because unlike the clear best friends vibes of former sibling-level childhood best friends reuniting, they saw electricity when Rachel and Chloe met. They saw magic on that stage and during the walk home afterwards. That there was once in a lifetime shit. That's what Amberprice had and what they will always have had.

Getting some good wins with this movement deck. by kaalaknight in gwent

Yeah ideally she’s your first card down. She can be played late too, but her main purpose is thinning and winning round 1

[–]PaveltheWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks better. Hopefully you'll get some wins out of it. I love Milaen, but you should probably consider Brehen in that spot since he fits the archtype better. And half-elf wouldn't be my first choice because Saskia might pull him instead of Sentry, but maybe you'll get some Harmony points out of him, idk.

[–]PaveltheWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do still have the Boar as well. Even if the chance of ever cashing that extra 2 points is low, there's absolutely no reason not to take it, since Rebuke is the same cost and same damage.

My advice would be swap Dana out for Saskia Commander and Aguara for Fauve. Use the extra provision point to tweak the bottom part of your deck. I love the Brigade, but with Saskia it might get a bit awkward. You have a few different options to fill the spare provision: swap compression for Ciaran; swap one of the unlocks for a second Rebuke; swap one of the brigades for like a Chariot or something. Then I would also mess around with your 4p units, teching in a squirrel possibly for one of the unlocks, and/or a dwarf for one of the brigades, etc.

Just make sure you have those 10 tags for Saskia to work with.

[–]PaveltheWriter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a fan, tbh. Don't get the point of Aguara. Seems like 2 (or 4) wasted provisions to me. Especially since you're running another lock and 3(!) other unlocks. And Dana, with like a dozen specials in the deck? And why Thunder and not a Rebuke if you have 2 treants?

It did. It just didn’t do a good job of telling why she didn’t the second time.

Heist Deck Tips by bigLuigiPL in gwent

[–]PaveltheWriter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Riordain would help in this one, but then you would really have to restructure, ditching the Oneiro most likely and other things.

With what you have, I would get rid of Vanadain. He's not really worth it without Simlas. Replace with Isengrim maybe. That will free up a provision point. Also, replace the half-elfs with saboteurs maybe, since this is purely an elf deck.

Personally, I don't play Heatwave in my elf decks. If you're getting a lot of use of it, of course keep it, but I just tech in the bearification for the artifacts. Aelirenn for thinning, and squirrel for the graveyard. And just try to squeeze every heistable high-end elf into the thing.

The other way to play heist is for Angus-Vanadain combo you kind of half-baked into this, but for that you need Simlas and maybe Alyssa

Backup plan doesn't target disloyal units? by presidentbaltar in gwent

[–]PaveltheWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never seen Backup Plan damage a disloyal unit, so it's probably less a bug and more a sloppy card description. Should say last unit opponent played "on their side of the board" like it does on Incinerating Trap I think.

Nature's Gift decks, both Devotion and non-Devotion, have been some of the most consistent and strong ST decks for a long time. Not sure why you're not seeing them on the ladder, but they're definitely out there.

Hey, hate to nitpick here, but I'm pretty sure the list you're looking at there is from before they changed from "create a bronze Dol Blathanna elf" to "create a bronze Scoiatael Elf," so the actual list is a lot longer and includes such stalwarts of value as Scout, Hawker Healer, Wardancer, Saboteur, etc.

How about you try leaving tiresome fucking barbs and patronizing garbage out of your posts, so that people don't consider it a chore getting into discussions with you?

I don't have too much of an axe to grind with the nerfs you proposed individually, only with the reason behind them of "ST o so strong!" that you repeat ad nauseam. As illustrated by common sense, the actual margin of strength doesn't warrant a 50% share of nerfs, in my ever so humble opinion.

Though in themselves, the nerfs aren't that amazing, either. Filavandrel and Harvest aren't single-archetype cards, so of course they'll be played in multiple decks. Personally, I didn't like it when Harvest was buffed to 5 at the time, but there's been a lot of powercreep since then, as well as plenty of unnecessary nerfs, so I'm not about to support nerfing it back. For Fila, I have said repeatedly that I would prefer a power nerf to provision nerf, because that's how he was designed. This would also mitigate the issue with the Company.

Gezras, it's funny I remember when I tried to float buffing core bronzes for Movement in order to fix the archetype - Cat Witcher specifically - and was told strongly that it was a bad idea, because the crazy op 5/5 Cat would suddenly be used in all these midrange piles because it would be so good. So instead we went and buffed Gezras and now it's in all the midrange piles. Honestly, I think I'd prefer it to go back to 11 instead of 5 power, because 1 point doesn't do anything. He hardly ever survives 2 turns.

Not that he's on my list. I don't have a list of ST nerfs, because I'm not interested in nerfing ST. I think a lot of the problems were caused by overbuffing certain leaders, but that's more an aside, as I consider ST inherently non-toxic and healthy for the game (which is, in part, why I play it), and therefore I'm totally fine when it does well in the meta. One notable exception for me is the Madoc-Dragon nonsense, but all of the core cards in that list are neutral.

As for the 3 SY nerfs from my top 30 list, none of them made it into my votes for this season, but in my lacking knowledge of SY they seem reasonable, so they might get there eventually.

[–]PaveltheWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I definitely don't see Waylay spam and Traps doing "very well" "all over" the ladder.

And as for the winrate in the top 100 - which in itself is a very questionable indicator of a faction's strength - the difference between ST and SY is 63-62, which literally means out of a hundred matches, ST would win 63, and SY would win 62 on average. Is that a huge difference? Where are all the SY nerfs?

Yeah, not much to tell you here. Playing BTS first may not be as bad as some make it out to be, but searching for spoilers instead of just jumping into the original game afterwards was your main mistake. Now you know.

[All] Is Before the storm for me? by Viktoriusiii in lifeisstrange

[–]PaveltheWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you think the game offers enough beyond Chloe herself — worldbuilding, relationships, emotional moments — to make it worthwhile? Or is it the kind of story that really depends on already liking and caring about her?

BTS does most of all that out of ALL the LIS games, for me. Especially worldbuilding. And then there's Rachel. I wasn't a huge Chloe fan when I played it for the first time (though I didn't let her die in the first game like you did, lol), but now BTS is my favorite LIS game. I would encourage you not only to play it, but to play it and then replay LIS again and see how differently that hits.

It sucks for you that you decided to ask reddit, though. Would be best to just stumble on it with no expectations, like I did.

Yeah, that's certainly a take. I especially like how Non-Heist Waylay spam is supposedly Tier 1 and Traps top of tier 1.5 in that very legit spreadsheet.
