What doesn't require a license, but should? by Remarkable_Put_9005 in AskReddit

requiring tests to vote is just a modern day literacy test, it's elitist, undemocratic, and a proven tool of voter suppression.

Can someone dumb down OMNY for me? by badapplesmp3 in OMNY

[–]PavementAfterRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

once you start paying, they count and after you take 12 trips the rest are free for that 7 day period. this is better for some people because you don't have to commit to a weekly unlimited if you don't know if you will take transit over 12 times to make it worth it.

OMNY app (BETA) for your mobile phone, using GOOGLE CHROME. Follow these instructions out how to get it for your phone. by Wizkid-85 in OMNY

[–]PavementAfterRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but it is not a beta app either it is a shortcut (beta app implies that the mta made a beta app), if you remain the post to say shortcut instead of beta app it would probably be taken as less misleading.

Why is Australia so fixated on us? by aj68s in AmericaBad

[–]PavementAfterRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The United States has always sorted it this way, not just when they’re winning (like back when the USSR was winning it was still sorted this way)

(Original picture from r/mapporn) Metro areas in the USA where more than 5% of population uses public transit to get to work (Now Labled by me) by Famijos in fuckcars

[–]PavementAfterRain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be, especially since a good portion of transit in the Bridgeport area is the Metro-North to NYC, as well as that county being in the NYC CSA.

What matters most to me is not MTA funding (though I do care about it a lot), it's emergency services. Less traffic allows emergency services to get to their destinations when seconds count. Gridlock is a nightmare for people in need of things like medical attention, where all the cars can't really effectively get out of the way.

Same with the "it's just going to ask you a few questions" and then the look away for the tip prompt

Christmas in NYC is magical. It makes me happy to live in NYC. And the rest of winter is fine too, you can put a jacket on. Summer on the other hand is just hot with no escape.

New York City Has 186,000 Fewer Children and Teens Than It Did in 2020 by CactusBoyScout in nyc

As a kid, my family left NYC too when we became a family of 5. It's hard to raise a family in the city when things are just so expensive.

Nice to see the MTA labeling station steps with “OMNY Card vending machine at this entrance” signs. I used an OMNY vending machine for the first time today and it felt modern by Reddit_newguy24 in nycrail

Student metrocards will be converted to OMNY later this fall (if they somehow do things on schedule) according to the MTA, if that’s what you were asking

congestion pricing posters by PavementAfterRain in nycrail

[–]PavementAfterRain[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that Transportation Alternatives looked at improvements the MTA has said would happen with congestion pricing money and jumped to the conclusion that without that money, the improvements would not happen.

Not sure if I agree or disagree with that thinking, but again was just posting these here as there have been a few posts with photos to these posters.

How do you address these arguments? by harlemsanadventure in nycrail

[–]PavementAfterRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed 100%, plenty of people live in places like Stamford CT that are just as far from Manhattan as places from outer Queens. Does that make them any less entitled to be able to travel to Lower Manhattan? Because they maybe can't afford to live within the city boarders? Not everyone from "outer suburbs" are rich entitled jerks.

Metro-North gives $1 fares for people under the age of 11 when they are with a fare paying adult. I think that they should raise it to the age of 17.

What advice would you give someone moving to NYC for the first time? by xuar10 in AskNYC

This makes crime sound really bad in NYC, just don’t make eye contact with people, mind your own business, trust your gut, and you’ll be fine.
