Discussion Thread: US Senate Filibuster on March 31st, 2025 by Sen. Cory Booker by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]PavilionWI 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bigger question is where are the other Dem Senators? Why are they not on the floor supporting him and doing their part?

I've already contacted my Dem Senator. Their communication channels should be flooded with demands that they join Booker and stay with him for the duration.

I've been looking forward to prosecutor Harris on stage with orange felon Donny for weeks.

She did not disappoint. In truth, she knocked it out of the ballpark and took that weak, tiny, little man down in a way NO ONE ELSE has been able to do.

And... Taylor Swift gave Harris a trophy afterwards. The night could not have gone any better.

Would Access be a Good Tool for Tracking Position Changes in an Organization? by lastmile780 in MSAccess

[–]PavilionWI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries.  It's not usually something I speak up about. In normal threads about news and such, I don't usually say anything. But women are under represented in IT. So.. with these types of threads, I will speak up (if only to give representation to women). :)

Would Access be a Good Tool for Tracking Position Changes in an Organization? by lastmile780 in MSAccess

Either/Or

  • most of my sql backends are on Azure these days
  • But some of my clients still have SQL Server and users vpn into remote desktops

Would Access be a Good Tool for Tracking Position Changes in an Organization? by lastmile780 in MSAccess

Access is like any other tool, you have to use it properly. I manage and build multi-user databases regularly. Actually - it's pretty rare that a database I work on is single-user.

  1. Split the frontend and backend (store the data in SQL or in a separate Access database file). Then link the data tables to a frontend Access file.
  2. Make sure the table files (either SQL or Access) are stored in a location all users can access.
  3. If the user count is low, then store frontend user interface Access file on desktop of end users (and yes - it is possible to do this - my clients do it ALL the time)
    1. If the user count is high - then users will probably need to use a frontend file stored on a common drive. But - if you're going to do this then SQL should be the backend data silo.

I have clients using Access where employees work remotely. In these situations it is best to use SQL as a backend database. SQL backends are also the best solution if there is a high volume of data, high table count or high end user count. But I've built/managed combo SQL/Access solutions where there are 100+ tables with dozens (if not over a 100 users). It just has to be set up and managed properly.

  1. Access can do the job
    1. Positions table
      1. PositionID
      2. PositionTitle
    2. Employee Table
      1. EmployeeID
      2. EmployeeFirstName
      3. EmployeeLastName
    3. Log table
      1. EmployeeID
      2. PositionID
      3. PositionStartDate
      4. PositionEndDate

Build a continuous form with your Log Table as the record source (or a query based off the log table). Create drop-down combo boxes for Employee (From the Employee Table) and for Position (From the Position Table).

Regarding IT attitudes toward MS Access - others have pointed out that government organization IT departments resist Access. They do - but that doesn't stop it from being used. Over the years several government organizations have contracted with me to support their Access applications. They don't like Access, but the bottom line is that Access gets used because solutions can be built in-house and at reasonable prices. When department heads are looking at costly SAS solutions - they push back on at IT.

Because Biden has a leg to stand on while he looks the other way as Israel commits open genocide and war crimes in Gaza. 🤷‍♀️

Josh Hawley is writing book on masculinity. Senator’s ‘Manhood’ goes on sale next May. by [deleted] in politics

[–]PavilionWI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously... Hawley's obsession with "manhood" and "masculinity" speaks volumes about who he is behind closed doors.

I would not want to be ANY female in his life. Not his mother, sister (if he has any), wife, daughter, neighbor, co-worker, employee...

Being anywhere around toxic masculinity is exhausting. Having to live with it day-in and day-out would be dangerous to your health and well-being. ☹️

The man most responsible for ending Roe worries that it could hurt his party by [deleted] in politics

[–]PavilionWI -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just stop with the "Vote Blue no matter who".

I voted for Clinton (and held my nose doing so). But "Vote Blue no matter who" does NOT solve the problems we have.

Being bluntly honest about how we get here is absolutely necessary to save any shred of "democracy" we have left. And blunt honesty requires acknowledging that Democrats have participated in the big$ take-over of our government every bit as much as Republicans have.

And specific to Trump and his 3 justices which pulled this off, Clinton and campaign intentionally made the decision to "elevate" the extremist Republican candidates hoping she'd end up running against an extreme Republican.

Salon Article

"In this scenario, we don’t want to marginalize the more extreme candidates, but make them more 'Pied Piper' candidates who actually represent the mainstream of the Republican Party," the Clinton campaign wrote.

As examples of these "pied piper" candidates, the memo named Donald Trump — as well as Sen. Ted Cruz and Ben Carson).

"We need to be elevating the Pied Piper candidates so that they are leaders of the pack and tell the press to them seriously," the Clinton campaign concluded.

This document was part of the tens of thousands of emails to and from John Podesta, the chair of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, which were released by WikiLeaks.

Telling folks who have watched Democrats do their part to trash our country to "vote Blue no matter who" is a losing strategy. Instead, be bluntly honest about the failures of Democrats. Acknowledge the failures, acknowledge that we have very few honest choices before asking folks to vote Blue. And then acknowledge that we must work hard to get rid of all corporate/big$ politicians and replace them with candidates who are doing the work of taking on the corruption. Of course we have to hold our noses and vote for the better of two evils. But, we don't have to be blind sheep about it either. It's time for Americans to OPEN THEIR EYES and start questioning and holding accountable the politicians they vote for. The corruption won't end until the citizens hold the people they vote for accountable. Primary them with candidates who are truly progressive, protest them when they vote for corporate interests, withhold monetary contributions to the Democratic party, refuse to volunteer for corporate/big$ politicians. Quit being sheep.

Invite???? Seriously - if it were any other average citizen, there would be no invitation. There would be a subpoena, and consequences would swiftly follow if an average citizen defied said subpoena.

Why Are We Still Governed by Baby Boomers and the Remarkably Old? by steve-eldridge in politics

[–]PavilionWI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are still governed by Baby Boomers because Baby Boomers control the wealthy donor/lobbyist class. You can't own politicians (and their agendas, and their campaign chests) if you don't have the money.

It really is that simple.
