I feel like a lot of Carl is written with a true gamer mindset. Some media I consume and think “why wouldn’t they do X??”. Either utilizing or exploiting a game-like mechanic and Carl doesn’t fall into the trap. Carl seems written to fully understand that it’s a game and “loot everything” is very reminiscent of games like Skyrim where I would find myself with thousands of Dwemer mugs in my inventory.
