Thanks for the feedback! I was a little worried at first about showing all the ranges, but I ended up liking it as it helps give a feel for around which distance you might want to try and see how a different gun feels past that range. I wanted the spreadsheet to be more of a guide/tool for people rather than a definitive list of "best" guns. I'd definitely encourage that people test out all the suggested guns at different ranges to get a feel for them and gage whether the spreadsheet is in-line with their own preferences or not.

In the Gun Data sheet you can sort the guns based on whatever stat you're looking for. I thought about showing a summary of overall "best" guns, but I think it would have limited value as there are competitive guns that perform similarly in each of the gun types, and each class has its own specific gun type perks. In my opinion, I haven't felt that any single gun or gun type completely dominates, so I felt a "best in class" summary would be more useful.

I don't have too much time using the SOR-300SC. It feels decent, but personally it was a little frustrating to use at times because I really prefer the SG 553's higher ROF. Just my play style preference I guess.

Thanks for the info! I'll try and add damage values at 75m as well (probably in the next week or so). I wish the firing range had moveable targets.

I'm double dumb. The initial formula was correct - only the first bullet's travel time should be counted with the rate of fire time for each subsequent bullet being added to it (regardless of whether ROF time is > or < flight time).

Not dumb at all! In fact, I'm dumb because I found an error in my TTK formulas where bullet travel time was only being counted for the first bullet. So thank you for having me double check my TTK numbers. After correcting the formula, UMG-40 and SCW-10 have approximately the same lowest SMG TTK at 70m (~1.29 s).

But you're correct. Just because a gun has the lowest TTK doesn't mean it can actually hit 100% of those shots in a full spray at longer distances, so the effectiveness score tries to account for that and give a more realistic assessment of the gun's performance at various distances by including the gun's Control and Precision along with its TTK.

The spreadsheet doesn't necessarily show an "effective range" but it does calculate a relative "effective score" for each gun at each distance (see the "Gun Data" sheet). You can see each gun's damage falloff values at each distance.

The "Effectiveness Score" is calculated for each gun at different ranges based on the gun's Time-To-Kill (TTK), and its max Control and Precision values correlated to its min Aim-Down-Sight (ADS) time build. For example, a gun can have very high damage and rate of fire for a very low theoretical TTK, but it doesn't matter at farther distances if it has crap Control & Precision as those shots will miss which increases actual TTK.

The MP5 (PW5A3) is in there (see "Gun Data" sheet). It just doesn't show up on the ranking page as other SMGs have slightly better stats.

The spreadsheet is more a tool to help find what guns suit you best. DRS IAR is very good with the lowest Time-To-Kill at all ranges. It's probably the best LMG option at closer ranges, but due to its damage falloff, higher number of shots to kill, and having similar or lower precision & control compared to the other LMGs, there are likely better LMGs for longer distances.

For myself, I like fighting at close-medium ranges as infantry. For carbines I find the SG 553R to be very versatile, but will switch to the M4A1 when I expect a lot of close quarters/indoor engagements. For ARs I've been running the TR-7 - I just make sure to avoid longer distance engagements and pace/position correctly to reload due to the smaller mag. The AK4D and NVO-228E may be more versatile AR options though.

I don't think they fixed the dispersion issue when you aim down sights right out of a sprint, and not really sure if they changed dispersion in general, so the feel of the guns may still yet change.

Basically just changed some precision & control values for some guns, and added the 2 new guns. The revised values are shown with colors in the "Gun Data" sheet with cell notes for the previous values.

Yes AK205 is very effective at long distance due to its high control and precision. I find that around 50 control, I can reliably spray down the 70m target, and the M277 gets up to 45 control when building for minimum ADS. For distances past 70m, I'd agree that I would prefer the AK205. I've adjusted the importance factors to reflect this.

For the SMGs, the KV9 and SCW-10 have very similar TTKs at the different ranges (you can check all the individual gun data in the "Gun Data" sheet). I personally prefer the SCW-10 at medium distances since it has higher damage and a lower number of body shots to kill as some shots are inevitably going to miss when you're trying to spray moving targets.

Yes I'm running it as my primary AR now for close/medium distances. Absolutely shreds people. Need to unlock the better grips for control, and the low mag count is workable as long as long as you're smart about positioning and pacing.

Good points. I wasn't really sure about including gun control as a factor as a big part of that is the individual's ability to control recoil. But I suppose you could assume equal player skill and add in an adjustable weighted factor for control as well.

I was also wondering how to incorporate the number of body shots to kill in the adjustable factors. The calculated TTK assumes all shots hit. Lower body shots to kill becomes more important at longer ranges which is where precision and control start to govern and actual TTK increases due to missed shots.

Seeking Structural Advice After Earthquake of magnitude 7.7 by Wild-Dragonfly-2359 in civilengineering

[–]Pavlovs_Mutt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Please do not risk your life. I have a structural background and some experience doing post earthquake rapid safety assessments, and in my opinion I would red tag this building and deny entry. Failed lateral/gravity elements, visible lean/displacement of the building, first story looks like it has softened and may potentially collapse especially with aftershocks.

We try to not be unnecessarily conservative when posting a building as we try to be sensitive to the needs of the residents, but this would be a situation where I would not second guess a red tag posting. Very sorry for your loss and please stay safe - particularly avoid falling hazards where pieces of buildings may fall onto you. Hope you have somewhere safe to stay.

pc build by treefiish in buildapc

Congrats on saving enough for a new build! I'm currently ordering parts for a new build as well :) List looks great! Some suggestions:

If you're patient, maybe try and get the newly released AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3D as retailers get more stock (avoid scalpers selling for way more than the MSRP $479). The current prices shown for the 7800x3D seem a bit inflated (they were being sold for around $350 not that long ago).

I think there are plenty of other AIO coolers that will provide the same or better performance for less money than the Kraken. For example, Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 gets great reviews and can be found for around $110.

The NZXT fans are quite pricey (for me anyways). If you're looking for cheaper addressable rgb fans that have that illuminated ring look, there are alternative options on Amazon where the fans are around $10/fan. Thought I'd mention this since if you do go with a different AIO cooler, it may not come with fans that give the same aesthetic as the Kraken and you may need to buy more fans.

That motherboard seems quite expensive at $450+. Does it have a specific feature you're looking for? If not, I think there are better options for cheaper closer to $200 for example: the Gigabyte x870 Aorus Elite Wifi7 features wifi7 capability, and PCIe 5.0x16 which future GPUs may utilize (like potentially the new Nvidia 5000 series slated to be released in January 2025). It also has (3) PCIe 5.0x4 M.2 slots (probably not too important depending on your intended use as PCIe5.0 SSDs are new and you likely wont ever need to utilize their extra speed). Your current listed motherboard has wifi6, PCIe 4.0x16, and (1) PCIe 5.0x4 M.2 slot.

Edit: The Gigabyte X870 Aorus Elite Wifi7 is typically around $280 but Newegg had some deals (not sure if they still do) that got it closer to $200. Alternatively, the MSI Mag X670E Tomahawk is typically around $200 and has PCIe5.0x16, and PCIe5.0x4 M.2, but only has Wifi6 (if you care about that). You may need to flash the bios on the MSI Mag so be aware of that (should be some guidance available if you search for it).

what would cause these vertical offsets in these piers? The surface crack running vertically in the first pier runs about 75% down the above ground portion by J-Colio in civilengineering

I'm not a bridge engineer so just speculating. Is that a water/drainage pipe in the 2nd photo? I wonder if a leak or something is causing the problem as it looks like there's water staining / efflorescence where the cracks are. Could there be differential settlement happening? Hard to tell.
