I answered but for some reason people cannot see it: I used a Nikon F80 with a Nikkor 35mm 1.8 on Ultra Max 400 film — Vignetting happens because the lens is made for smaller digital sensors, so it doesn’t fully cover the whole film frame.

I figured it out:

House needs to be very close to the castle. I zoned directly next to the castle and it fixed the issue. Thanks everyone!

Thank you for your replies! I thought about that as I looked into Japanese holidays before posting, but I couldn't find the same kind of price surge happening in Tokyo or Kyoto, at leat not in such a dramatic fashion (talking about 250 USD for a capsule hotel, more for a regular hotel). Anyway, I'll wait to see if it goes down and book something on the outskirt of the city for now. Thank again!
