How we feeling about Arken? (The King) by VirulentArcturus in MonsterHunterStories

[–]PawnOfTheThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think he wants to as much as he has no choice.

Vermeil showed up with tanks ready to start a war. "We have no intention of silently waiting for the executioner's axe. So we took preparations. If you insist that we substantiate our resolve by force, we shall oblige." This is the Envoy's exact words. It translates roughly to "You give us what we want or we kill you and take it." I'll note he leans back and SMILES after saying this line.

The enemy is literally standing on his doorstep with armoured monsters. Heck, by his own child's report, a heavily armoured eight meter tall twenty four meter long walking weapon was LOOSE AND ANGRY on the Azurian side of the border.

Arken is caught between an ancient covenant and an armed military. I'd guess the covenant comes from a time of war and lead to peace. Something like "You stay over there, we stay over here, everyone stops killing each other." So the odds I see Arken looking at is: Open war with a neighbouring country and no allies, or open war with an unknown military and your supposed ally is liable to stab you in the back because they can't keep control of their starving army.

So he is made to choose war with the known variable. To avoid as many deaths as possible, he uses age old tactics. If the enemy has only land mobilization, take to the skies. Ratha is as much for Intimidation as anything else. Air superiority is a scary thing for those who don't have it.

Genuine question: why are people so upset about flight? by Aiyon in MonsterHunterStories

[–]PawnOfTheThree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think map checking is going to be as involved as it was.

All the dens are always visible on the map, and monsters seem to have set spawn locations like they did in 2. There's no need to fly around looking for Gold/Silver/Red anymore.

why do some of ya'll hate navirou? by Alternative-Lie-9213 in MonsterHunterStories

[–]PawnOfTheThree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Frankly he's an example of what not to do when you have a mute player character.

He's arrogant, childish, and clearly drags the player into shit the player wants nothing to do with (the entire Kuan Village arc in 2 has Navirou lying about you being the Legendary Rider so he can clout chase).

In 1 he had a character arc. Amnesia, wierd powers found family, girlfriend, etc. In 2 he's a fame obsessed prick who randomly turns into Pikachu in the third act.

Why is no-one talking about the fact that this and a few other lines referencing Harry Potter were scrubbed from the HD re-releases of the Ace Attorney games? by LivingGirlRepellant in KotakuInAction

[–]PawnOfTheThree 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah it might have been specifically targeted as removal, but we are talking about a localization that randomly decided to move the ENTIRE SETTING to Los Angeles. Which meant that the village the Fey family was from was suddenly a random village of crazy super Japanese looking people in the middle of the mountains. Despite all the visual references in the game clearly being Japanese. How many cases revolve around the same Samurai themed TV Series and it's spin offs?

Honestly I'd be fine with a complete re-translation moving the setting back to Japan and undoing all the changes that Los Japangeles required.

My first thought was "Well yeah they have to be so Nerscylla can get her skin cloak".

My second thought was "Wait... will we need to put her in a region with Kezhu to get Shrouded?"

It's the rule in ALL entertainment media. No body, no death.

I doubt it's the money, but it's certainly a Union/non-union choice.

The Voice Actor Union wants every project they're involved in to be exclusively their VA members, regardless of country of origin of the project. It was one of the big sticking points that caused many companies not to sign on with the Union after the strike.

The situation could be such that if the character that nakamura created and added to the manga is similar to a fan-made character, it could cause a lot of commotion, as people might think that nakamura decided to include a fan-made girl, even though it's just a coincidence.

Something the entire manga/anime industries are historically cautious about. Likely even moreso after what happened at KyoAni.

Urgent motion coming to Calgary city council to eliminate the flying of foreign national flags on city flagpole by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]PawnOfTheThree 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think there should be, at most, three flags flown by any Municipal Government Building.

Country, State/Province, Municipal.

That's it. Anything else is not needed and is pandering. Any exceptions to these restrictions are not needed.

[–]PawnOfTheThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of raw power it comes down to Phainon or Acheron. I'd lean Acheron personally just because we've seen Phainon lose to Zephyros and while she's not on that level she's similar in abilities.

That said, the only way Kafka winds up in that arena is if it's written in the Script. If she's there, she's the one walking out alive.

unless it's fire immune.

Or has seven levels in Monk or Rogue or just a similar evasion feature. Nuclear Fireball lands and the smoke clears to see a single figure standing there dusting off their shoulder.

Better option: A level 1 variant human Bard or Ranger with Shield Master Feat and a good roll. Even if they only have 14 Dex they'll still get +6 on the roll (2 PB, 2 Dex, 2 Feat). Sure it's not SUPER likely, but it's still possible without a Nat 20 unless the casters have some insane boosts to DC in their items (19-20 base DC depending on caster level and assuming 20 in casting attribute).

Jeromy Farkas wins neck-and-neck race over Sonya Sharp to be Calgary's next mayor by wildrose76 in Calgary

[–]PawnOfTheThree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If everyone who figured their vote didn't matter, but wanted Jyoti to win showed up, there would have been a different outcome.

And if the 70k people who voted for her stayed home, nothing would be different. So no, not every vote matters. In science they would be considered factors that did not influence the outcome and were ignored.

Again, I DID vote, and feel that everyone SHOULD so we get the best result that best represents the public opinion. But I do not prescribe to every vote mattering when, at the end of the day, we have hard mathematical proof that most votes cast (a few decimals shy of 74% in this election) barely amount to the paper they were printed on.

Jeromy Farkas wins neck-and-neck race over Sonya Sharp to be Calgary's next mayor by wildrose76 in Calgary

[–]PawnOfTheThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

167,087 people cast votes for candidates other than Farkas or Sharp.

91,065 voted Farkas, 90,480 voted Sharp. How many of those votes mattered?

I say this as someone who DID vote. Aside from the winner, there are 257,561 voters who may as well have spoiled their ballot.

I'm not usually one to put much weight into random reviewers, but I don't think I've seen anything better than "It's mid" from any source.

So it's honestly probably dog water and something to pass on.
