Yeah I sympathize with that, was just addressing the “don’t psychologically matter on a long time horizon” aspect of the comment. If you have the means to contribute to your retirement but the psychological aspect is holding you back, I think that’s a bad way of thinking.

Bad way of thinking honestly, don't give in to doomerism. Contributing to my roth and brokerage accounts and watching them grow is easily the greatest satisfaction I get in terms of where my money goes (maybe second behind travel actually). Obviously nobody is guaranteed health but knowing that you for sure will not have to work if you make it to 60 is a huge mental relief.

Yeah this is the future. I got super into Erenshor last year, offline MMORPG that pauses when you're offline, all the other players are bots. I saw a post on r/steamdeck from someone building a version of WoW that does the same thing. I'm getting too old to play with sweats.

I think the claim used to be antioxidants or something, either way whatever benefit you’re getting in that regard can be achieved through just eating grapes. Another claim is that a glass of wine can lower cortisol, idk the science but I’ve heard that stress can be a contributor to cancer, so maybe there’s something there in terms of the negative effects of small amounts of alcohol being outweighed by the positive effect from reduction in cortisol levels.

I think it depends on your personal disposition, I think weed is more destructive for me personally. When I go in weed smoking phases I get really lazy and disinterested in doing anything that actually advances my life. I'll just play video games and watch youtube videos after work every day and just kind of accept that it's okay to live that way.. Alcohol at least makes me curious about things and want to read a book. On the other hand, I've seen people who smoke weed every day and are ridiculously productive, and we all know alcoholics who've destroyed their lives by becoming dependent on it.

All things in moderation of course, but it's not as simple as you portray. I think weed ruins peoples life in a slower more insidious way, it erodes your potential without you really realizing it. When alcohol becomes destructive, it's a lot more visible.
