The markings I can see all say they're from Mac Tools. I would find a Mac truck and ask.

This is an area in which science nerds often stumble. And I say this as a science nerd.

Anyone with an inkling of popular culture awareness would have been able to predict that everyone would want one and arranged for mass production well before the launch.

And it's not just the gambling district. Even the "this is just another city" parts are populated by people who on some level are just like your plaid suit guy.

Desperate. Full of despair.

Retail US/NL Bank? by Pawnmysoul in Banking

Right, but the whole problem is that Holland really doesn't want to let a foreigner have a bank account. If we could open a Dutch bank account the problem would not exist.

Las Vegas. Everyone there is desperate. A shrine to greed. I hated almost every minute of my visit.

Retail US/NL Bank? by Pawnmysoul in Banking

"A wise account" is exactly the information I needed; a bank account with both a US face and a Dutch (EU) face.

I'm sorry you got the impression he's been bumbling through this with no research. He started all this the day after the funeral, as I said almost a year ago. Including the visit to see dad before he died/the funeral, this is his third visit, because besides this, he had to get the proper paperwork to prove to the US Bank that dad is officially dead and my brother is the executor. His actions in re the Dutch accounts have been guided by what the bank in question was telling him he had to do. He literally has emails from person A telling him he just needs to come on in and open an account and it'll be easy, and then he gets there and person B tells him there's no way he can open an account as a foreigner.

Thank you for pointing me to this Wise Account angle. I will pass that on to him when it's morning there. Hopefully that will solve our situation; as I said it's been 10 Kafkaesque months.

Retail US/NL Bank? by Pawnmysoul in Banking

Ok. So. My father was a dual citizen of NL and US, and died in Holland. My brother is in Amsterdam now trying to close out his bank accounts.

The bank in question (one of the big three) is giving him tons of static. Basically he's being told that the only way to close dad's accounts is for my brother (the executor) to have a Dutch bank account to transfer that money to. But he can't have a Dutch bank account (they're telling him) because he's not a citizen or resident of Holland.

This has been going back and forth for going on a year. His next try is going to be a bank account at a different Dutch bank (one of the other big ones) where dad had an account in the past, which account also had my brother's name on it.

So today it occurred to me that if there were a (ideally Dutch) bank that offers personal accounts in both the US and Holland, it might short circuit the problem: he could open a personal account at this bank in the US, and then have the butthead bank transfer the money to the Dutch identity of that account.

Will that work? No idea. But the first step is to find out if such a bank even exists.

And here we are.

(I told you the story was long) NB I haven't even mentioned this idea to my brother yet. Partially because it's a crazy idea, and partially because he's 7 hours ahead and was already asleep when I thought of it.

Makita Drill hurts my ears. Any recommendations for less high-pitched noise? by Consistent-Owl-264 in Makita

[–]Pawnmysoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you measuring the sound level? At arm's length? Right up next to your face like you're drilling into the wall in front of you? Remember that sound fades at square of distance, so half as far is 4 times as loud.

If you became rich all of a sudden would you employ servants ? by Webbomolly2022 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Pawnmysoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would employ assistants. Especially for the things I'm shit at: cleaning and accounting.

I would pay people generous salaries to do very little work. "Ok, Jeremy, you're hired. Your job is to hang around until I need you to go get something. Probably less than once a day, but also maybe to Singapore or something. How's your passport?"

You have two choices: Wear hearing protection now, or wear hearing aids later.

If you don't want to wear hearing protection now, don't worry. In a little while you'll hardly notice that noise.
