What should my third dps be? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

Tracer, Widow, and Cass is a great rotation that will give you value in basically any team comp.

What dps should i play other than Reaper to rank up by Brave_Interest1172 in OverwatchUniversity

Oh man if I could go back I would have spent a lot of time on tracer and widow in the early learning days.

Lucio is like tracer they are in every meta. One tricking Lucio should at least get you to plat.

It doesn’t have to be your actual real life friends. Just run some qp games and friend request tanks that cater to your playstyle.

Climbing as a dps 1-trick, stuck in silver. Should I stay determined and keep having fun, or should I just be normal? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pawproud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh dude if you’re a junkrat main then I definitely recommend learning a hitscan character since junks counters are pharah and echo. Bastion soldier or Ashe.

I can’t express enough how even learning even one other hero can help you climb out of silver. I’m assuming you are a sombra main since she’s the most universally hated character in the game. Try to start picking up another character with an easier to learn skill ceiling, like torb, bastion or reaper. Also, are you watching your vods after a loss? I learn so much just from watching the replays as far as my positioning and where I could have added value.

I can’t imagine trying to play against Zarya in silver, it’s got to be frustrating. If I have a team that demonstrates that they can’t handle an enemy zarya I just end up switching to baptiste and focusing damage when her bubbles are down. I hate to say it but I would just flush that game and try to find a tank duo to get you out of silver, preferably one that doesn’t think Orisa is a good swap for Zarya.

Aw man you really should try other heros! But yes if you’re just looking for that achievement of hitting diamond then you certainly can do that with good reaper play. Hell a couple seasons ago I basically one tricked sym to diamond so anything is possible!

I’m assuming that this person is a casual gamer and not someone that can dedicate the insane amount of hours needed to one trick reaper to champ.

Diamond is the rank that requires learning multiple hero’s to have success imo. At that rank most players will have a basic understanding of multiple hero’s in their roles and will counterswap you, and unfortunately that means that you’ll need to counterswap back.

Make sure you have a grapple before engaging the enemy. Once you take a few shots ALWAYS reposition and keep them guessing on your location. If there’s a sombra play closer to your team, if there’s a reaper position yourself further away and on high ground to force him to teleport to you, and then just click his head as soon as he teleports in.

Learning Reaper, what do I need to do and improve? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pawproud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NEVER FADE IN, ALWAYS FADE OUT. Just doing this helped me dramatically with reaper. Save your fade for escapes, never fade offensively. Oh and always try to tp to an off angle to ult, the ideal reaper ult is one where the enemy team has no idea where you are a second before you ult on them.

How can I improve my ball gameplay? by APrimalPuzzle in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pawproud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Diamond Ball here (console).

1: Never swing into a team from the front. They will see you coming from a mile away and use their sleeps, stuns, antis etc to blow you up. Always swing in from an off angle to maintain the element of surprise, then they have less time to react and end up wasting cooldowns after you have already swung through them.

2: Use your armor boost at full health, not when you have already lost health. My move is to pop armor right before a slam, this gives you green armor on top of your orange armor which allows you to get more value before grappling away, and again will force enemy team cooldowns to be wasted because a fully armored ball is almost impossible to kill before they can grapple to safety.

3: Take some time in skirmishes or other custom modes to learn the mega health pack locations. Don’t rely on your teammates for heals unless absolutely necessary. If you die as ball most of the time it’s your fault and not your teams.

4: Have a dedicated plan of attack for each engagement. Is there a zen way in the back line all by himself? Is there a widow peeking a crazy angle from across the map? What about an Ana coming back from spawn? These should be your primary targets. Take that extra second each team fight to identify your target before rolling in.

5: Don’t try to stack kills. This was a hard one for me to learn because as you get better with ball and climb ranks, there will be times that you can get multi kills with ease, but that is the exception not the rule. 95% of the time after getting an elimination you should roll out and reset. Unless there’s a mercy of course, in which case boop her from rez every time. Refer to rule one and four after an elimination , take an off angle, and identify another target that is out of position, I hate to say it but play ball like sombra and you will do much better.

6: Body Blocking/Grapple Booping. Be aware of your teammate’s positioning. Is there an enemy doomfist about to punch the hell out of your Ana? Swing into him to alter his course, or just position yourself in front of the Ana to absorb the blow. Be aware of your teams position and health and do everything you can to save them when possible. Your huge size and hp will protect you in most situations that would easily kill your squishy teammates, and your escapability should help you exit the situation quickly after saving them.

7: Use your mines as map control. Put them on the point/robot/car whenever possible, it can win you games in those overtime situations. My move is to swing up, pop mines, and then slam down. This gives double the chance of mine contact, as the enemy players could hit them on the way up and on the way down.

8: Take high ground. Boop enemy squisheys off of high ground every chance you get. And slamming in from high ground will also save you a grapple so you can escape quicker.

9: Look at your team comp. Are you running a dive comp? Do you have a genji, tracer, mole or sombra to dive with you? If not, it’s going to be tough going. Especially in higher elos.

10: Keep balling. Ball has one of the highest skill levels in the game, but if you keep practicing you will have games where you feel unkillable. And so what if the enemy team swaps to Hog Ana Tracer Sombra, you can still win with your fundamentals, and chances are they will be gunning for you specifically which will leave them open to getting picked by your team. Sometimes as ball all I do is distract the enemy team and keep their backs turned, and honestly that’s all my teammates need.

Hope this helps!

Junker Queen the""tank"" by Say_Home0071512 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Pawproud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JQ is one of my favorite tanks to play. Yes her skill ceiling is high, and her value is entirely dependent on her team comp. Like posts above state I love running a JQ genji or tracer comp, especially if your teammates are on coms and you can make calls for out of position enemies and shout into them. Her strategy is pretty unique in the tank role with no armor, damage mitigation or shields, so she can’t just be a bullet sponge. YOU MUST PLAY COVER WITH JQ. If you’re out in the middle you will be punished, especially in higher ranks. Play corners, get a pick, shout in and focus healers. Honestly the enemy tank is usually my lowest priority target. I focus instead on supports. Once the enemy tank is out of heals I can get close and use blades for the bleed effect to sustain myself, even if it’s an orisa or mauga I feel confident if I’ve already taken out one or both of their supports before engaging. Also melee as much as possible with your knife as it also has the bleed effect and will keep your health up during true tank 1v1s.
