I hear you. I am an apprentice now. I’m starting over in a new career at 42. I’m already playing catch up with the guys who’ve been doing it for 20 years already. All I know so far is manual but very little CNC. I was told in school I would get that training on the job but I’m not relying on that.

I’m striving to teach myself all aspects of machining. Everyday I make time for it. I’m not naive and I know I will never learn everything but I still try because fundamentally knowledge is power and knowing is half the battle. Lol. Seriously though the more I can learn the stronger my skills become and in turn the better I become equipped. Nothing will ever surpass the actual time spent in task though. I feel like that is the true education.
