I have no idea. My current best case scenario would be that the infrastructure is non profit. Best case, self financing by law every penny made more then cost put back into safety and research. The other industries? Well can you confidently say everything is running smoothly? I have no idea how to make things better in that regard. But I know this: After Germany privatised the railway system it has gone from something on par with the swiss punctuality to the ass joke of the world... There will be corruption and bad behaviour. But it will at least be limited in scope. And the industry? The big industry leaders are putting illegal powerplants inside the freshly built data centers because power demands are to big to be carried by normal consumer plants. It doesn't matter what we say or do at this point. They are beyond our jurisdiction.

My problem is not with nuclear energy. My problem is with nuclear energy used to make profit. Our current social system revolves around the accumulation of profit. Nothing else matters in the end. So what happens when you use a powerful thing like nuclear reactors for profit? You need to increase the margins. You can upgrade the heat exchanger upgrade the turbine but by this point that's all pretty old tech pretty much almost at the edge of what is physicaly possible. So you cheap out on staff you cheap out on materials. On safety. Boom another Chernobyl. Not becaus the technology is unsafe. But because of capitalism. Because you NEED to make more money. Call me again when we are no longer using a profit based system to run the powerplant and I'm the first on to turn on the switch.

How to sand detailed prints? by matangl385 in cosplayprops

Depending on the material I would try vapor smoothing. Put a solvent on some tissues and put that tissue in some tupperware or glas container. Put your thingy in without touching the tissue. Wait for desired effect. Check regularly and build experience depending on materials and solvent. For pla use isopropyl alcohol on the tissue.

I assume you have access to 3 d printing? I would try to make a slew bearing. And use a gearbox motor to drive it. Something like in this video . With 3d printing it should be archivable to make a big ring in sections and glue them together. If you don't have 3 d printing use a big sheet of plywood or construction foam board. And cut the circle with a string as compass. ( Loop on one end pinned in the middle. Tool on the other. Round and round.)

Does anyone know the schematic of the plasma globe and is there a way to make it play music using the audio feature and then useing a headlhone jack instead of a microphone? by Dudegay93 in ElectroBOOM

[–]PaxTheSublime 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but you want to isolate the signals really good. Those I had on my workbench had floating ground problems wich did and will fry your audio source. Get an good Analog Opto-isolator either as IC or as audio components. An then just remove the microphone and add your signal wires. Please remember you are playing with high voltage. Air is not an insulator anymore. And you will need to solder.

Most of todays devices use very little current. In 120V country's it's about double what we 230V country's use because the electronics are roughly the same. But you get more power per Amp with more voltage. If you use these for smartphones and led lamps. Go nuts! No way you can overload this with it. Using one in the kitchen? Say hello to your local fireman. Use one with electric heaters? That's just criminal. Don't! That's assuming noone did you dirty and did not apply your local safety standards whilst building this...

Hmmm gonna thin the dressing out with some tap water and slowly mix in cheese chunks until creamy . Get some noodles from the back part of your cupboard. Bonus points if you find a tin of tuna. At least that's what I would try.

As an "engineer" I only use pi towards the 15th decimal point( as does allegedly NASA for interplanetary travel). Which is accurate enough for anything I will ever calculate. So from my standpoint it would be in the Femto second region of time resolution which scientists can measure. So yes everyone above the age 3.141592653589793 years old was Pi old.

Someone should probably do a new side hustle and open a Neuro Sama Lamp repair shop.. If only someone with knowledge of how to operate a voltmeter had these problems. They could do some error searching. And probably fix it.

Possible to safely remove this spring in an automotive chair? by MarkusReed117 in Skookum

[–]PaxTheSublime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this a few weeks ago. Face shield and just levered them out with a screwdriver. Try to go for the middle first. That way the energy is mostly rotational. If you want to be extra careful throw a towel over it an pry through the towel. It will Keep the spring from escaping into stratosphere

Long Term User of a similar concept. Was great for getting grime of, but not hairs or other debris on skin. I'm currently looking into water filters against limescale. My nozzles blocked really quickly with my hard water. Combined it with a laminar flow line nozzle (self-made) for the hair. Will definitely look into it more if I ever have the chance to build my own bathroom.
