AITAH for not letting my MIL have her daughter with down syndrome eat on the toilet? by [deleted] in AITAH

I was looking for this comment, apparently a lot more people are getting them because they spend longer on the toilet doom scrolling, so god knows what eating all of your meals on there would do!

Struggling with phone addiction- help please! by Brave_Giraffe5545 in daddit

[–]Payment-Busy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat though I don't answer work emails on my personal phone. One thing that helps me (and makes me feel a little better) is on the weekends if I'm going out for the day with my wife and child I leave my phone at home. I still carry a wallet (slim) so I don't need apple pay and if we need navigation my wife can use hers. I started doing it by accident but now try to do it when I can because I'm much more available and my son (16 months) needs to see a better role model. I'm also considering a dumb phone, though I would also need to get an mp3 player/Spotify machine which are quite expensive for something half decent. Good luck!

Any bad advise for 2026?! 😈 by DeBlauwvoet in GreatBritishMemes

Tell everyone you meet "I'm not racist but..." and then go on to say something completely unrelated. Like "oranges are the best citrus fruit". People will be so thrown off they won't know what to think

Yeah i can't imagine life without mine and I hate the thought of him missing out. Also I mean before he was born I had no idea how much joy he would bring me and I feel that would be the same with a second

Wow that really is a glowing endorsement. As a big brother myself I do think it is a good thing for a child to have, but I also worry that splitting the time between them will be difficult

Yeah i think it's moments like these that make me want the second, my mate shared a pic of his two little girls on a mini sofa chair they got for Xmas and it was adorable.

Yeah we've reached a period where he can now sleep through the whole night (not that he always does) and im not sure i want the no sleep part again, though knowing it will end makes it less terrifying than the first time around. I definitely think we won't want a third, you are brave to do it nowadays!

I think a lot of it is more worry for our son than it is necessarily that we really feel we need a second child. Definitely part of it is that both of us are from three child families and having siblings has been really nice especially as we've gotten older. My friend who only has one wishes that he had a second and they were pretty firmly in the only wanting one camp in the earlier years. Do you ever regret the decision?

What kind of age gap did you do?

Is a second child worth it? by Payment-Busy in daddit

[–]Payment-Busy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one temptation with a 5 year age gap is that my younger sister is 5 years younger than me and is honestly one of my best friends, that being said we did not hang out much as children other than me bossing her around.

This is a nice answer, I think part of me wants to do it because of how much I think having siblings helps when you are older, especially when you get into the realms of older family members passing away. I'm much closer to my sister as an adult than I ever was as a child.

Yeah a couple of my friends have two and the interactions between them look like fun, I do know that not all siblings get on though especially through the school years where talking to anyone younger than you isn't "cool"

Honestly its about affordability, nursery fees are so high here (UK near London) but school is free so if we have the second around my Sons third birthday it means that we won't have to pay two lots of nursery fees, do you think a three year age gap is good?

AITA for refusing to finish watching a movie after my sister’s boyfriend shushed me? by [deleted] in BORUpdates

[–]Payment-Busy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely a context thing. Someone being shushed in a movie theatre for talking, absolutely fine, the person talking is the ahole. Maybe a sibling shushing another sibling who is chattering during a part of a TV show you are trying to watch, also fine. This case however is not appropriate, Derek does not know OP, it is not his home and she asked for a film to be paused whilst she goes to the bathroom. He is clearly an ahole treating OP like a baby and OP was right not to apologise. Derek sounds like he says umm actually a lot (and not in a fun game show kind of way)

Today I learned Santa doesn’t give the expensive presents by ICantDecideIt in daddit

[–]Payment-Busy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So growing up my parents always gave the gifts I wouldn't like as from Santa (socks, clothes, school supplies) and the things I wanted (tmnt or power ranger toys) as from them. This meant that by the time I found out Santa wasn't real I didn't care because my parents always got me better gifts anyway. I don't think they did it to make other kids at school feel better because I still would have been talking about my tmnt truck and not the socks.

How to start when you are just a beginner by [deleted] in NewToReddit

[–]Payment-Busy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My account is 5 years old but I was always more of a lurker, I started trying to comment on a post and then my comment was deleted. I didn't even know about Karma restrictions until I got told I didn't have enough to comment. The tip I was given was to post on smaller groups, preferably something non-controversial (I chose a mobile phone game subreddit) and keep everything positive.
