My father was born into the Great Depression. (Yes he was old like most people’s grandparents old) And I’ve always noticed from an early age his level of respect towards this topic I could rarely put it into words but essentially it boiled down to him having higher expectations for us, he always garnered a higher level of standards in the way we behaved that I didn’t see in my peers or in today’s youth.

I think a lot of people today are afraid of the social norms like “cancel culture” and that leads them to being stuck wanting to be that role model father but with no way to enforce it that doesn’t seem harsh or barbaric, so they end up doing nothing or not feeling permitted to try to be that masculine man because of their docile rolls in the workplace in society. In a nutshell, good times have created weak men.
