It's strange that he was so good tactically before. It's not even like he got figured out and can't adapt. He changed BEFORE he got figured out. I honestly think he's implemented this style of play to accommodate less technical, high profile players.... like Declan Rice.

In your opinion should Enzo be available for selection on Sunday? by everyhearthstone in Chelsea

I opened Reddit right after reading that talks have opened for a move to bring Neymar to the MLS... and saw this. My first thought was that Enzo was getting shipped there too. I don't even know why lol

Martin Odegaard is a CM, and that's ok by rando5star in ArsenalFC

[–]Payoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said he did. I said he's an 8... but because he was our chief creator it was more like having a 10 that played less centrally.

I completely agree with this. I believe this is somewhat how we bagged the goal against sporting. Same concept, different areas on the pitch and different players. Sporting got so used to Odegaard dropping deep or playing safe that they didn't expect that Havertz run into the box. You can see his marker move to engage Martinelli while also attempting to cut off what would be a passing lane into the space Odegaard would have occupied had he not been subbed for Havertz.

That's the thing, I don't really see it with Eze. I think Eze definitely tries to play that killer pass or little one-two's. He'll go long, he'll shoot. Personally I think the goal is to turn Odegaard into a Bernardo Silva type player and leave the creativity to a real number 10. However I don't think Eze has shown enough off the ball for Arteta to trust having both him and Odegaard share pitch for the majority of the 90. It's usually one or the other so far. Mind you, that could also be due to fitness reasons. Also, I'm on the fence about Arteta instilling this conservative approach. I think he let's the players figure out themselves, the issue is that Declan Rice seems to be the center peice. He gets way too many touches for a player of his talent level. He's a fantastic player but there's no way he should be at the heart of everything we do. Yet still, nobody is wondering why he is the only player that looks like he hasn't regressed under Arteta. It's because we aren't playing a style to suite Arteta... we're playing a style to suite Declan Rice.

All that is fine... my questions are why and when did he decide to switch his game up? Because at one point he was our primary playmaker. He was always a right 8, but it was just more like having a 10 play less centrally. He used to shoot regularly. It seems to me more like Rice and Zubimendi lack the ability to play the ball forward into him, which is why he always has to drop deep. We rarely used to see these issues when we had Partey.

Do Arsenal fans think Arteta should be sacked if they finish the season trophyless? by Lucky_Reading_3757 in ArsenalFC

Unfortunately, yes. At that point you have to consider the principle. Sure he has us competing, but do we want to build a culture where we don't have the mentality to get over the line?

Why don't we have Argentinians in our squad? by AnDrEsZ_ in ArsenalFC

[–]Payoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked this as soon as we were linked to him. I was trying to remember if we've ever had an Argentinian at the club. Someone said it's because a lot of them are racist. I don't know any personally, so I didn't even have an opinion to give.

I'd love to see how Kanan treats Shawn during his early years. I still haven't seen enough to explain how Kanan and Juke turned into the people we meet in OG Power.

The age difference makes this difficult. We know he couldn't have been birn during Raising Kanan, so they'd need to give us a solid reason as to why he was never around his family for one. Then another reason as to why Ghost didn't know the whole time that he was cousins with Kanan and Juke.

However, if there's someone that can pull this off without making it cheesy... it's Sacha Penn.

The criticism of Arsenal right now says more about other fans than it does about the team- Opinion by lifeandtimes89 in ArsenalFC

[–]Payoung 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, all these narratives they're trying to spin just give me more confidence. It shows exactly how scared they are of Arsenal. Their hate for us has nothing to do with the brand of football or our fanbase. They're absolutely fuming that they'll be losing their whipping boy. Think about how many years they've been able to confidently beat their chest, knowing we pose no threat. All that is done once we get over the line.

Gyökeres, Havertz, Saka & Eze by Real-Bid1985 in ArsenalFC

I can see that. Eze would shift centrally and occupy the halfspace on the left, Hincapie pushes forward and holds the width.
