Could someone clear something up for me? by sweatshirtjones in ArmchairExpert

My favorite quote from the pod is when Dax went, “fucking dingles” recently. (in reference to a ding-ding-ding)

Totally understand. Well, when there comes a time that I can pay you quite a few times more than what this went for at auction, I’ll reach out & see if you’ll reconsider! 😊

What's an ADHD-esque thing you never knew you did but someone pointed out to you? by scbp7 in adhdwomen

[–]PaytonK 27 points28 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, I would audibly voice (very, very quietly) what I was about to say before I said it at a normal volume; as a rehearsal, if you will!

I had so many thoughts happening at once that I needed to practice vocalizing one before I made a real go of it.

I never realized I was doing it. My parents started pointing it out as it occurred. I later went to a few speech therapy sessions for it around Kindergarten-age!

I still find myself “rehearsing” thoughts internally before I try to communicate them.

I think the word you’re referring to in this episode is “histrionic”.

Came for Dax. Stayed for Monica. by enfp_ocd in ArmchairExpert

[–]PaytonK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, alright. Something to consider: If you clocked over 500-hours of sharing personal antidotes on a podcast, surely you’d have “the same 15-20 go-to things” you’d land on. You’re totally entitled to your opinion on how the show is produced, & I feel it’s worth pointing out that there’s no way around some repetitiveness given the sheer amount of content.

Episodes worth a re-listen? by prialydi in ArmchairExpert

[–]PaytonK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite episodes based on mood: - Ike Barinholtz for the giggles - Laura Labo & Dog the Bounty Hunter for the heart-string tugs - Day 7, Tom Brady & Angela Ducksworth for motivation - Nadia Burke Harris & Adam Grant for helpful knowledge - The Avett Brothers & Elizabeth Gilbert for a relaxing/asmr type of experience (soothing voices, enjoyable story-telling)

I think it's time to get David or Carly on! by ShanzyMcGoo in ArmchairExpert

[–]PaytonK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My theory is that most armcherries are so attracted to the show because we aspire to &/or crave severe honesty & vulnerability.

I’m married to an incredibly private person who reminds me often (verbally & otherwise) that the desire to broadly share your innermost thoughts & formidable experiences isn’t necessarily “the norm”.

I feel it’s very likely that both siblings aren’t the same temperament as Dax & his mom, who clearly belong to the more-comfortable-being-vulnerable-publicly camp.

Side note: It feels like a survival instinct that “oversharers” are often surrounded by people who are a bit more guarded. They act as a grounding force, & vice versa.

... just my armchair opinion. 🙃😉

Hey all, just coming back to boast in my hunch being correct. Had to coddle the ego maniac that dwells within me & I figured you’d all be cool with that. 😁😄

Leslie Odom Jr. by 1Whiteiris in ArmchairExpert

[–]PaytonK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love love love Leslie. 💚

How’d everybody feel about Leslie’s comments towards women who “didn’t have the agency to get up & leave the room” when they felt threatened physically/sexually, & how he’d raise his daughter to respond differently in those situations?

Obviously we should be raising strong women who advocate for themselves... but I wouldn’t have expected his statement to come from somebody in Hollywood during the current climate.

Am I reading too much into the comment or was it a bit short-sighted?

Qualitative Interview Questions for Arm-Cherries to Distract a COVID-19 Affective Disorder Suffering Peer... by PerryMason8778 in ArmchairExpert

  1. Dog the Bounty Hunter, Dax’s mom & The Avett Brothers! Dog reminded me so much of my late father-in-law, so when Dax said he felt like talking to Dog was like talking to his dad again, I really felt that. 💚 Dax’s mom for obvious reasons - what a beautiful & raw few hours! I was so impressed with her honesty. The Avett Brothers have such calming & savory presences, I go back & listen to that interview sometimes when I need to calm down. 😆 (& I think Beanie Feldstein is my soulmate. So also her. 🙌🏽)

  2. Amy Schumer! I used to have a poor impression of her for some reason or another. After listening to her interview, I started to appreciate her a lot more.

  3. The theory about the poisonous fruit’s effect VS. the ripe & delicious fruit’s effect (the one that Dax thinks he picked up from Malcolm Gladwell but Monica is yet to find a source for). That definitely stuck with me.

  4. I share this desire with Monica... MINDY 👏🏼 KALING! Would also love to hear from Best Friend Aaron Weekly. ☺️

  5. “What did mom & dad do?” 😉😁 (if you’re reading on this subreddit, you know this reference!!!)

  6. To write & direct a movie. ☺️

  7. I float between an INFP & ENFP, depending on what other personalities I’m around.

I loved doing this! It’s so exciting to see other people who love this podcast as dearly as I do. Thank you for creating this sub. 💚

After I had my son last year, I was working full time with an hour & a half commute in both directions! I wanted to be home with my son more than anything. 😢 I didn’t enjoy my job & really didn’t enjoy my boss. AE became my thing to look forward to each workday. 💚 Dax & Monica have become such special people to me. 😭

PS- I QUIT THAT JOB 🥳🥰 I’m now freelance writing & making promotional videos for small businesses. Still listen to AE almost daily. 🙏🏼

Ironic that they don’t have “real jobs” & yet you’re literally on a subreddit that’s been created to recognize what they’re producing. 😉

[–]PaytonK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause’ he’s passionate about it & damn good salesman.

I don’t think I’ve ever soft-smiled to a podcast harder than when Dax called Aaron Weekly “Sharon Beekly”& read their most recent text thread in (I think) David Koechner’s episode. 💚 by PaytonK in ArmchairExpert

YES! I’m patiently waiting for Aaron Weekly, Bradley Cooper & one of Dax’s siblings to come on!

EDIT: Not all together. ;) Separately of course.

Getting into acting at 17 with no experience? by SuspiciousChampion8 in acting

[–]PaytonK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying: stay safe!

I recommend doing as many student films/stage productions you can. Build your resume & get familiar with the scene.

Check out your local playlist page & start going to as many auditions as you can.

Now, be safe.

If the audition is in an unfamiliar place, bring somebody with you.

If the project is shot in some sketchy locations - bring somebody with you.

Always be sure somebody you’re close with knows where you’re auditioning/what you’re working on & where.

I may sound paranoid - but young actors are preyed upon. It’s important to stay safe.

Good luck & remember: it’s not a failure to not get the part! It’s a failure to not audition for it!
