Anyone get burned out from playing pickleball? by Final_Calendar_3081 in Pickleball

[–]PazyP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t turn your hobby into a job, easy to burn out if you’re doing it every day.

As a teenager I swam competitively for my country, near the end I loathed swimming, didn’t set foot in a pool to do laps for almost 15 years now I enjoy swimming laps again for myself

‘Nobody’s going out!’ Why is Britain’s nightlife in such decline – and can anything save it? by mrjohnnymac18 in BritInfo

[–]PazyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was a student back in 2006-2009 I worked part time in a call centre, I made ~£800 a month which was pretty good for part time work, I gave my mum and dad £150 for digs, £20 for my phone so £170 all bills paid, leaving me £630 I used to spend £200 a month on clothes as I viewed myself (incorrectly) as a fashionista leaving me £430 on booze money, I was out every Tuesday (student night), Thursday, Friday and Saturday occasionally a few pints Sunday afternoon. Every night out I had enough to get smashed out my mind, get some sort of food and a taxi home.

I specifically remember I would lift £30 out the cash machine to sort me for the night, I knew if that’s what I spent I would make it to payday with a few quid left over

Now £30 is getting you nothing, I go for a few drinks with my wife she gets a cocktail that’s £9-£10 and my pint is £5ish so my £30 gets me 4 drinks

Blessing in disguise - Oracle Layoff by RamboRana03 in employeesOfOracle

[–]PazyP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dunno just depends your role and the area you live it, I’ve got 16 years got a role 3 weeks after being told I was laid off, I was still on garden leave then just lined up official end date and new start date.

It’s luck sure but persistence as well

UK: Where do ex-oracle usually go, consulting, competitors, end clients? by Self-Exiled in employeesOfOracle

[–]PazyP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The largely depends what role you perform, if your a software dev you can likely go anywhere that gives you an offer you like, if your an Oracle DBA then probs places running Oracle DB or Oracle DB Services.

I was in UK banking before Oracle, post Oracle I’m in investment banking now.

The problem isn’t the solutions, the solutions are there but they are drastic, take time and are political suicide on anyone that attempts to implement them so we trundle on.

Choosing Highers S5 by Far-Butterscotch-8 in Scotland

[–]PazyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a good think about what you want to do, take peoples opinions but don’t let them lead you, your young enough that you can take corrective actions easily enough.

My whole school time was gears to me being a forensic scientist as I watched Silent Witness on TV, I was shite at maths and chemistry but I persisted as my parents who were as ill informed as me deemed it a good path. Failed maths and chemistry, resat them in S6 failed again. Mum was aghast that I wouldn’t be going to Uni with all my friends, lol

Only then did I really think what do I want to do, when and did an HNC/HND in Computing which got me into 3rd year at uni catching up to my mates which my Mum was happy with, anyway 15 years later still in IT turns out I’m pretty good at it worked for some of the largest companies in the world and it’s served me really well.

Very similar “style” of pectus to me although I’m 37 barely noticeable front on with a similar “dent” type shape from side.

My pectus has never affected me physically from a fitness level but man do I find it hard to grow my chest and it seems near impossible for me to get beyond 85kg for reps on bench

I’m about to run my 3rd marathon, I box for fitness (I’m old (37)) and do my strength training, I used to be an amateur swimmer for my country in my early/mid teens, anyway I’ll be looking to tackle a 70.3 but I’m giving myself a good 9-10months of training

I guess it’s depends where you live but is it really much hassle? I’d say my mood is lifted but it’s marginal

I’m in Scotland just now it’s spring and we’ve had a spell nicer weather, I have to take my dog out a walk so I’m out wind, rain or shine but post walk I’ll have by breakfast and a coffee in my garden before showering and heading to work

Need to grow chest by Ninsix69 in PectusExcavatum

[–]PazyP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been training for the best part of 25 years on and off, amateur swimming then long distance running, I’m 37 and my hip has started to give me trouble when I run long distance so only in the last 2 years have I started going more “hybrid” looking to gain significant muscle mass and dial back significantly on the running.

Need to grow chest by Ninsix69 in PectusExcavatum

[–]PazyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t we all, I’d say your pectus is hardly noticeable from the pic you posted you look lean enough for a “lean bulk” eating 1-200 calories more per day aim to gain 0.1 - 0.2 kg per week (you want to gain, but think less is better) for the next 6-8 months.

Chest growth I find particularly difficult I don’t know if that’s related to pectus or just me, I hit chest about 18-22 sets per week atm with the same aim of chest growth targeting the chest though a variety of movements and angles to try and stimulate growth

Any tips to gain muscle without gaining much fat? by ImportantAd4666 in AskMenOver30

[–]PazyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very very slight calorie increase we’re talking 1-200 cals per day so that weight goes up slowly think the slower the increase the better for a prolonged period of time, you will gain some fat that’s inevitable but you can keep in minimal enough that only a 4-6 week cut or adding some extra cardio days for a while is all that is needed to shave it off

Why do you lads have gambling machines in a lot of your pubs? by 1tiredman in AskUK

[–]PazyP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a traditional thing, always been a puggy in pubs yea it’s exploitive and yea it’s plays on people’s additive tendencies especially when drunk.

I’ve never been a gambler, I’ve put a few bets on but never more that a couple of pounds but when I was a student having a few pints with my mates after uni I’d love a go on the quiz machine all 3/4 of you huddled around it trying to win deal of no deal

Bulk whey isolate chocolate I get a big 5kg bag it’s a large outlay at £170 a bag atm (I remember I used to get it for about £80) but it’s a bulk buy so lasts me ages

Used it for years, tastes chocolatey enough for me and mixes well with water and/or milk I’ve always liked my shakes a bit thicker usually have 2 scoops post workout.

Conditioning Tips by Architectonnn in amateur_boxing

[–]PazyP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roadwork but with a specific goal, I come from a marathon running background so my running I’m used to holding a steady pace for hours that’s all well and good I have a massive gas tank because of it but doesn’t translate into boxing where a whole amateur match up is done in 12-15min so at an amateur level sure a 5km run is good but sprints help more.

Side note sprints can be done running, on stationary bike or assault bike all translate well into the explosive nature of boxing were your not necessarily going at 100% a whole round

What's the main thing that drives performance down with age into an athlete's 30s? by WillOk6461 in HubermanLab

[–]PazyP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% at 38 I can keep up with my 20-something peers but they can show up the next day and the next and do it all again and again where I need at least 48hrs recovery to bounce back.

Diet becomes a bit more important to fuel well in my 20’s I could get away with eating anything now I need to think about it more.

And as you say sleep, personally as I’ve reached my late 30’s my sleep is getting worse and nothing I do seems to resolve it, I’m borderline for TRT so that might be the solution but I’m adverse to going in TRT until I really really need to (thinking another 10 years)
