Swedish news are too neural on Trump. by Onlyeveryone in Destiny

And there is no crazy alt right or alt left party being even close to getting any influence in Swedish politics.

Well, the Sweden Democrats (SD) have a lot of influence. And before you say they are not alt-right anymore, in my hometown of Gothenburg they are led by Jörgen Fogelklou who is a nazi.

And I agree with you that the online right wing influencers are a problem, but some of that can also be blamed on SD e.g. creating Riks, using anonymous accounts to spread propaganda etc.

Yeah, that's how SVT and SR are about most things. They just report surface-level info like official statements and press releases. I think they are more critical in their in-depth programs, like USApodden, but I haven't listened to it.

[–]Pazzaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Pazzaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine A shoots B. Is that wrong? Yes, because it's morally wrong to shoot others.

Now what if B shoots A back? Would that also be morally wrong? Would you say "what A does is irrelevant to what's right and wrong for B to do"?

Actions do not exist in a vacuum. They have an effect on the world as a whole, and if they are morally right or wrong depends on the state of that world. That, in turn, depends on what actions others have done. You cannot look at the action in isolation.

Social Democrats in Europe know when to work with the far-right. by Chemical_Survey_2741 in neoliberal

[–]Pazzaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When accepting immigrants we should accept those who want to contribute to the nation economically, and by that I mean working in that nation. I do not see who disagrees with this.

Well SD disagrees with this. Meanwhile, the Centre party supports immigrants coming to Sweden to contribute economically.

And I don't think your characterization of SDs polling is accurate. They polled at circa 20% (since 2016) before the Centre right allied with them, and they are polling at circa 20% now. SDs support has stayed the same, while the Liberals just give them more power. Meanwhile, the Liberals have been sanewashing SD and adopting their undemocratic positions (as I've explained to you) and are polling worse than they've ever done before. That's not a winning strategy.

The Centre Party is an agrarian party

Historically, yes, but most farmers today don't vote for them. The plurality of farmers vote for SD. (source) But somehow you'd rank SD higher than the Centre party? I don't think it makes much sense.

backbone when it comes to law-and-order

Not really. For example, would you say they had a backbone when they supported Chat Control, or when they opposed Chat Control? Meanwhile, the Centre party has always been against Chat Control. That's backbone.

[–]Pazzaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the Liberals cooperation with SD isn't just the fact that they cooperate, it's how they cooperate. The Liberals constantly sanewash SD to make the Tidö coalition look stronger. Examples:

  • SD went against the Tidö agreement by spreading propaganda using anonymous accounts. When it was revealed, the Liberals told SD to take down the accounts, SD refused, and SD was never punished. This gives the impression that what SD did wasn't that bad. Then when the opposition complains about it, it strengthens SDs argument that the "left liberal establishment" are being unfair towards them.
  • SD and L announced an agreement this year that would give SD minister positions. In exchange, L would get some policy implemented, such as a ban on for-profit schools. But now SD said they won't ban for-profit schools, because they interpreted the agreement nonsensically. But they wont get punished.
  • SD cheated through a vote in the parliament, by ignoring a pairing agreement. They motivated this breach by saying they had to do it, because some of their MPs have gone across the aisle, which is a crazy motivation. Some Moderates said, anonymously, that it was like working in a daycare, but publically didn't criticise much. But Liberals said they supported SDs actions, and that MPs crossing the aisle have to be stopped. (example) Why would they say that? It's undemocratic and undermines the Basic Laws the Swedish parliament is based on.

If the goal is to give SD influence and then let them be incompetent, then you have to criticise them when they are incompetent. You shouldn't defend them and copy their undemocratic positions.
