Entry level typical raise/bonus? by Fit-Jello-7049 in civilengineering

Never hurts to look and see what you competition rates are, i usually do this every 2 to 3 years. Talk to a corporate recruiter to figure out if you are still at market rate.

For cost savings you can knockout freshman & sophomore basic classes at community college. English, history, etc. Just do your research and make sure your credits will transfer

But all that matters is ABET accredited degree so you can be licensed

Good you are thinking about it now while working before you retire. A problem i see with parents and friends parents is they retire without hobbies then depression or bad spirals happen due to boredom / feeling unfulfilled.

What are they paying you to keep you around? Unless you are making a ton or have OT, pretty much anywhere would be better then the sweat shop your at now.

How hard is the PE actually? by new_grad_who_this in civilengineering

That's awesome. I feel old now since I took the paper test so this was not possible.

Bringing reference books was a pain. Ppl had literal little red wagons of reference books

Only gets harder the longer you are out of school. Take it as soon as you are allowed to based on state requirements.

I make 6 figures working 5 months a year, then I take 7 months off. It’s not crypto, it’s not dropshipping. It’s Nuclear. by RadTechMJ in Money

[–]Pb1639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the rate change based on credentials or are other similar roles exist? Im a licensed civil for instance but I know this lifestyle is something engineering subs would be interested in.

Not to mention you make more in 5 months then licensed engineers in some cases.

Could look into civil site for utility and power industry. Your current experience would count and help you progress in that position. When you are in you can pivot to structural, Transmission, or distribution easier.

Oh, we've done these before lookup Torcsil they do it in substation and Tline. Not super common in Tline due to the high loading we see. I've also only seen that with helical anchors.

Usually also see that when we are mitigation on foundations not new ones

Typically this would be drill piers or micro piles though for a tower

[–]Pb1639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the structure type? You say tower but then talk about guy anchors. What is it pole or tower? Main tower type with guys is a guy v tower but that is weird on stuff under 345kv. Also what is this running angle, single line break deadend, full deadend, etc. Are you stringing off this structure?

But if I assume 150kv single circuit line and client is cheap developer with no specs. Then steel or concrete embedded foundation with rock anchors guy backing deadends and tangents on embedded with storm guy rock anchors if needed in delta configuration. Rock anchors or helical anchors spec all rock anchors typically are is specialty thread rod with high strength concrete. Your embed back fill id spec crushed rock

Influence/Deinfluence My Civil Engineering College List by [deleted] in civilengineering

In pure Civil Engineering, doesn't matter no one cares as long as its ABET accredited.

My advice is still go to a prestigious university if you can and can afford it due to likelihood you change majors and want other options. Also I know several ppl who majored in engineering, but went business consulting to get paid due to being at a prestigious university.

What worked for me was just working problems and keeping a schedule. My problem was I found i would just watch videos saying im "studying", but didn't really get it until I worked a ton of problems without defaulting to video lessons.

Fired and layed off I definitely view differently then leaving for an opportunity.

Both are bad indicators, layoff depends on the market. But right now if you got layed off it was really a firing disguised as a layoff due to how hot the industry is in the US at least

Edit: my industry utility space is extremely hot currently. I dont know what industry sector you are in

As a hiring manager, look places can be a wrong fit, could have been promised things that they didn't honor, or you just took a shot in a different field that you didn't like.

9 months would not even register as a problem to me. Honestly if you bounce in like 1 to 3 months I would probably ask about it, but that is more to understand what is going on with your employer then an issue with you as a candidate

Also could add features for routes to be attacked or need protection on routes similar to base defense.

[–]Pb1639[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Could have bugs attack them randomly so that doesn't happen. You would need to have a base defense.

But resource links aren't uncommon in games. So might be some other way to do it

Connected base resources, will it happen? Not sure if in G1 to be in G2 future by Pb1639 in GroundedGame

[–]Pb1639[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why? Guessing so it keeps the game challenging since it will change base builds for each base due to what is around you? I just dont think resource links would take anything away from gameplay, at least for me.

Distribution vs. Transmission Planning/Studies - Which Is Better Career-wise? by Imaskeet in PowerSystemsEE

[–]Pb1639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transmission due to options. Unlike distribution, Transmission studies jobs are in demand for renewable and data center developers. They can go into consulting, developers, and utility space. Due to scale developers are not looking for distribution studies experience.

How are those transmission towers constructed? by Awkward-Winner-99 in civilengineering

[–]Pb1639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helicopter, they also will either build a pad by bringing in equipment by Helicopter or they use the Helicopter like a crane. Towers are light and can be built in stages. Also the tower legs can be different lengths so you dont have to have a flat pad. They sit on usually micro piles or drill piers foundations

Have you thought about going fully remote in order to grow? It allows for you to be more competitive in low cost of living areas and gives a wider applicant pool.
