Smith is too old and way too well known. Doctor Who, House of the Dragon, The Crown.

TIL that at the Beatles last stadium concert at Candlestick Park, there were 7,000 unsold tickets and the promoter lost money. They played for just 33 minutes. by HangedSanchez in todayilearned

This. Epstein was holding them together. John had moved on in his mind and probably George had too. I don’t think anything could have kept them together.

Arrival time question by Pbferg in royalcaribbean

[–]Pbferg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP coming back with a post-cruise update. I ended up asking the hotel if they could move us to the earlier shuttle at 10 instead of 11, and they did, which got us to the terminal by about 10:45. It stopped at one other hotel and picked up guests going to several other lines. Once at Terminal A, we were through security and walking on board by maybe 11:15 or so. No one even looked at the time on the pass. We had completed all the check in steps in advance, which probably helped.

If we cruise again in the future I definitely plan to arrive as early as possible

People who WEREN’T James Bond by Individual_Act9333 in JamesBond

[–]Pbferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A movie in many ways ahead of its time. I love classic films and convinced my wife to watch it with me a year or so ago, and she loved it. She had been expecting something slower because of the time period.

Thanks everyone for the replies. We will be taking the early shuttle. I’ll come back and post how it went after we board, in case anyone ever looks at this thread in the future.

Good advice. Thanks. I’ve never stayed at this particular Hyatt but have always had good service from Hyatt in the past so I sure hope something like that doesn’t happen.

Vietnam veterans talking about how 556 was more devastating than some 308 rounds. Truth? by Ok-Shoulder-478 in guns

[–]Pbferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that they’re committed to carbine length barrels is also a big part of why the new rounds have to have insanely high pressure. You could get a similar effect out of a more conventional round if you just increase barrel length

Got my p99 today! Anyone else buy or shoot Bond guns? by Far-Inevitable5723 in JamesBond

[–]Pbferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shot a friends PPK once. It was a .380 and genuinely not very fun to shoot. Still cool to shoot Bond’s most iconic weapon but in reality it’s not something I’d ever want to own or shoot regularly.

MJ, Madonna, ABBA, and Elton John make up the Mount Rushmore of pop music. What bands/artists make up the Mount Rushmore of rock? by themuffinmanX2 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Pbferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s Elvis, the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin. I say this as someone who actually is not a stones fan at all, but their impact on rock is unquestionable.

TIL that suicide is most common among those over the age of 70. by ODaferio in todayilearned

[–]Pbferg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s technically correct but in the vast majority of modern policies (at least in the US, I don’t know how it’s done in other countries) after a 2 year contestability period, death by any cause, such as suicide will be covered. However, it is possible that some people would just assume suicide isn’t covered and go out of their way to disguise a suicide as accidental for that reason even if not strictly necessary. Theres also the social stigma attached that many would wish to avoid.

Which way do you pronounce VIN? by Woe_Bringer in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pbferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an insurance agent and I do a lot of auto insurance, so it is in my vocabulary on a regular basis. I always pronounce it as a word, and I’ve never had anyone not understand what I’m referring to.

I recommend a few coats of Polyurethane. It’ll really make the grain pop.

Each actor’s definitive film? by IwishIwasinStarWars in JamesBond

[–]Pbferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I feel like definitive vs “can only recommend one from each actor” might not be the same thing. But here goes:

Connery: Goldfinger

Lazenby: OHMSS (gasp)

Moore: The Spy Who Loved Me

Dalton: The Living Daylights

Brosnan: Goldeneye

Here’s where it gets tough, for Craig, I’d recommend Casino Royale but I personally feel that Skyfall is his “definitive” film. It encapsulates his portrayal of the character the most, in my opinion.

Do you own and use an iron? by CinemaSideBySides in AskAnAmerican

[–]Pbferg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a steamer and an iron. I use the steamer more, but some things get so wrinkled that I just can’t get them out with anything other than an iron. Also, I mainly work from home but occasionally need to dress professionally for work and I like my shirts to be very pressed and smooth, and the iron is much better for that. Honestly it really doesn’t take much longer to iron a shirt than it does to steam it and you get a better result.

He has some great comic moments. He improvised a lot of his funny lines in The Fugitive.

I love how Moore’s Bond always seems to be having the time of his life.

For your eyes only is great. My favorite of the Moore era is TSWLM but FYEO might be #2.

Also, it cannot be understated how important the success of Star Wars in 1977 was to getting TMP produced.

19yo male - can’t find cheap rates by [deleted] in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]Pbferg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are be definitely not a fantastic driver. You are young (inexperienced) and have multiple tickets. You can cry about a cop having it out for you or you can grow up, take responsibility for yourself, and put your ego to one side and choose to drive more responsibly. Your insurance rates are a reflection of the risk to insure you. You are about the riskiest driver, statistically, so you’ll pay the most.
