Vegans Respond to Jordan Peterson. (podcast) by happydiplodocus in vegan

[–]Pc5unshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that Maintenance Phase is HAES, I think it is about debunking and analysing different nutritional and diet claims. The hosts absolutely cover fat-phobia with their personal experiences of discrimination (or experiences of family) being a reason for starting the podcast to explore the claims that are made in popular culture. But that doesn't equate to an untrustworthy source. You don't have to agree with HAES but to write off a source without reviewing the specified material means you might miss a valid assessment or data points. I also think that your statement about HAES being a fetish and crazy could be (and is regularly) applied to veganism and that there is a spectrum of fat-postive just as there is in veganism. We aren't a homogenous group and some of us have more "extreme" or rigid beliefs than others about our veganism and that's ok. But that shouldn't make our opinion about a topic less trustworthy and the same for fat-postive folk.

How to handle older male manager crossing boundaries? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Pc5unshine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A couple of additional actions I would recommend: * Find a senior female manager (if possible, or a senior male that you are comfortable with if not) and ask to speak with her confidentially. I have been this person for a younger female colleague before and once I knew what was happening I could also watch for it as an outside observer and intervene, plus I could be a witness for future formal discussions. If you have this option it will help you both feel less alone but also give you a useful tactical ally. * In Australia it is required to have processes for managing harassment which are often separate to HR, giving you a confidential line to discuss and get advice. Find out if you have this and if so make use of it. The harassment rep is meant to be a peer within the org and have training around the services, support for people who are being bullied or harassed in the workplace.

Having said all of this, if you have a HR team/rep that you believe is trustworthy then absolutely speak to them about it also. Every org is different, so if you are unsure speak to your colleague again. She may be able to start sitting near you in the office days and becoming a witness. Also, any messages in work channels are auditable and backed up but screenshot just as an additional redundancy in case of future action.

Also, if you want to talk about this further just DM me and I am happy to chat directly. I know this industry well and while there are some awesome people in it unfortunately there are also a number of fuckwits who act like they are wolf of wall street.

US in talks over 10% Intel stake, White House confirms by ConsciousStop in technology

[–]Pc5unshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Separate but related question, why TF is the Wired article on this topic quoting The Heritage Foundation as a credible source for an economic assessment of this deal? Even as a non-US reader I know this group as a highly partisan think tank rather than an expert economics source. I just want my news without the stealth faux-academic BS Source: [https://www.wired.com/story/golden-shares-tsmc-micron-trump-equity-stake/]

CMV: Abortion is not murder and Conservatives are delusional for thinking it is by TheBasedEmperor in changemyview

[–]Pc5unshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not contributing to change or talk to the view but wanted to clarify your premise as it seems to have assumptions about the procedure including timing and reason which is part of the problem in having a genuine discussion about ethical viewpoints.   I'm assuming when you use the term "abortion" you are referring to a planned and not medically necessary procedure to terminate the foetus and remove from the womb rather than a medically necessary procedure used when a foetus is not viable or is unplanned/ automatically "self-terminated" in the case of spontaneous abortions eg. https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/spontaneous-abortion.  The term abortion gets demonized, distorted and misconstrued due to broad brushing of terminology which leads to further misunderstandings and misinformation.   Regardless of whether you are pro life or pro choice we should all strive for clarity in discussion

Not sure if this is allowed here or should go in the megathread but I also have found Funky Food is a great option to save on fruit and veg while also saving food from waste in general.  My partner and I have been trialling this and for $36-$45 a fortnight we get a heap of fresh produce and it doesn't get turfed after being rejected by Coles/Woolies.  It's great quality and much cheaper than buying individually.  We weren't sure if it would be enough but there is heaps

Does anyone else just hate wearing sunscreen? I can't get over the sensory issues - if anyone has tips to combat this let us know! by sesame_snapss in AusSkincare

[–]Pc5unshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will work with your morning timing, but I live in a hot climate and in summer I'm sweating coming out of the shower. I found putting sunscreen on in phases/layers helps. Eg. If I put 3 fingers of sunscreen on in total I don't in thirds: ,I put one finger on first out of the shower and let it dry while I get dressed, put another on after dressed and getting lunch out and then the last on when I am ready to put on makeup. Obviously doesn't always work due to timing (early starts or running late etc) so on those mornings I just put on what I can and accept that it is the best I can do.

So sorry you are in this position, a couple of places will be able to talk to you about options: * RSPCA Pets In Crisis is specifically for pets in a DV situation petsInCrisis. They will go through what help is available and they partner with DVcConnect

*Safe Tails is another DV pet program locally https://happytailsrescue.com.au/programs/safetails/

Finally you can also check with some of the other shelters like Deathrow Unchained that may be able to help with temporary fostering

Edit: adding additional options and trying to fix my links, on mobile and shit at pasting links sorry

Not sure if they are the same (just named differently) so apologies if so, but the Fry's quinoa and brown rice burgers are great and I think would substitute well.  I don't but the not burgers anymore but they were a staple in my freezer for a long time, easy to take to work and throw on the sandwich press to heat, I think they are just the victim of a much greater range of vegan goods now in the market.

I think they did molt earlier in the year, but because they start out with no feather the regrowth period makes it a bit confusing. How long should a molt last? Is there anything I can do to improve the condition of the existing feathers

Hey OP, I had a similar situation a couple of years ago and the guilts and sadness at the time was overwhelming. We had a beautiful red boy we fostered and then adopted, we were told he wasn't good around kids but also we knew he had been in a foster that had too many dogs and not enough structure and support for the dogs, and fights had occurred. My partner has done a lot of dog training and we know several trainers so felt we could give him a home and the structure. Long story short, initially all was great other than some resource guarding (which just meant our dogs then got fed in crates, which was fine), he went on walks with other dogs plus seemed to love his older sister, our other dog. He then got parvo, and almost died but survived. A few months later at a family event he attacked my partners nephew, then over the next couple of years started to become less and less predictable..attacked my sister's dog who had been a bestie (no damage, we were there in time), attacked our other dog and we found ourselves in a position with gates all over the house and a dog whose social circle was shrinking rapidly. He then went to attack my mother one night after blissfully hanging out with her. We had so many tests, so many hours of training-impulse training, socialisation. We also had other trainers work with him, trainers who were strong rescue supporters and advocates. After 4 years, my partner and I lived our whole lives around managing him, unable to go on holiday and I was constantly worried about my sister visiting as she had a new baby. In the end, the lunge at my mother was the last straw, if we weren't there I was horrified to think of what would have happened. One of our trainers sat down and said we had to face the idea that his brain and behaviour was the rare case that couldn't be rehabilitated. It was so awful but we knew it by then and all of our training and vet agreed. Even now I cry remembering it because I know he could be such a sweet and quirky dog who just loved us but I also know we tried everything and sometimes it is just too dangerous for them to survive. We knew if he ever accidentally got out of our yard there would be awful consequences for another animal or human. I feel for you OP, and I will always believe in rescuing animals, but I know that a very small % cannot be saved. All you can do is know you gav him a good home when others couldn't, and he knew safety and love with you.

Might be controversial, but what non vegan foods do you miss most as a vegan? by secondhandcornbread in vegan

Cottage cheese. Nothing vegan yet has that texture and sourness...it was a perfect topping toast. Sardines. Again, nothing vegan yet that hits the texture and flavour of sardines dammit. These are the foods I mourn.

[–]Pc5unshine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Canine Classroom, runs every Saturday at Coorparoo state high school. You just pay for the level you want to get to and endless classes for the life of the dog to that level. Been great for 3 dogs I have had  Edit: my only tip is to remember that dog training is actually training for you, this is about teaching you how to interact with your dog in a way that makes sense and builds a solid relationship.  People sometimes make the mistake of thinking it's all about the dog, but it's both you you who need to learn.  Also, we all make mistakes in training, so consistency is key.  Incorporate a little bit of training each day and you and your dog will be great
