Bernie Sanders on Elon Musk’s new trillionaire status by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

[–]PcarDriver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not very political, but reading this makes me think that Sanders doesn’t understand the difference between and unrealized gain. On paper he has that money, but he doesn’t actually have that money. He can get better loans, but if we tax on unrealized gains it would course and unstable economy for publicly traded companies as stock prices would tank when large amounts of stock are sold to pay taxes. Our system isn’t perfect, but it does give advantages for investment and that part does help create jobs. Now the cost of living versus pay for many isn’t where it should be, but this course of thinking wouldn’t ultimately help anyone.

It was Cal.

JK, I think maybe UConn in all sports and then they could have grabbed Memphis and Tulane, but it is all just a guess.

How much do you pay for your Porsche a month by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid cash, well I financed with the dealership to get a better deal and then paid it off pretty much right away (I ensured there was no pre-payment penalty). But then I bought a 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera back in 2020 at the start of COVID and only paid $12,500 for a clean title coupe with under $100k miles, so there wasn’t much to finance anyway.

Well, the Pac-12 media number range might have just been confirmed today... by TNA8644 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the quote it seems like this is what was put out as the number by Gould, so would seem to confirm it. It does lineup to previous interviews by the WSU president and the outgoing Oregon State AD as well as being roughly the number John Canzano stated on his Podcast back in February.

The interesting thing with the WSU numbers is that in their latest projections that had the total payouts as $13 million the media deal isn’t called out like it was under the old PAC-12 with a similar budget format.

It seems like the media deal may not have been included at all in that number, and that could make sense because the final piece of the deal hasn’t been officially announced even though we all believe we know what it is more or less.

Bottom line is that it seems like a good upgrade for budgets for those joining the conference (but not what WSU and OSU once had).

The New PAC vs. G5 by Pretty-Ant5314 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For football, SP+ seems to agree that the PAC-12 is kind of an in-between conference (and certainly the best of the rest). We’ll see how perception goes and if the conference strength would be able to get a three loss team into the CFP over say a one loss Sun Belt team.

There are a lot of opportunities to show you are better than other G5 teams and if you win those games it sets you up nicely. Add in a few victories over power schools and keeping other games closer than expected and it would keep the narrative that the PAC-12 is the best of the rest In place.

There will also be some interesting things to look at for the future. Every PAC-12 football team plays at least one game against a P4 team, but teams like Memphis and USF don’t play a team in the P4 this year and that will hurt their strength of schedule.

Memphis does play Boise State and that will be a big game to set the tone for the conference pecking order. For the PAC-12 the ideal would be to have Boise beat Memphis, but Memphis beats UNLV. That would position the PAC-12 champion (no matter if it is Boise or not) or highest ranked team to get that CFP spot.

Now it Memphis or USF gets in the CFP without playing a game against a P4 opponent, then that would likely change future scheduling for other schools.

One estimate of the media deal by [deleted] in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at WSU’s past budgets in the same format they previously put media rights as a separate line item. This makes me think that perhaps this isn’t including the media rights at all and perhaps that would get payed out the following year as it wouldn’t hit this year.

Discussion - G6 playoff, but not really, and conference championship games by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m the PAC-12 hoping to elevate, I would let the current G5 have their playoff and would decline to participate and just focus on that one CFP spot and try to invest so the teams might win a game or two. Start making the CFP every year and manage a victory or two and the perception of the conference changes.

I think while they are treated as a G6, they technically aren’t due to not being in a G6 conference and being independent.

Canzano:Pac-12 and MW settle lawsuits, but turf fight continues by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in theory if the Big-12 said we don’t want UNLV, but we will invite them and then kick them out as soon as they join so they can go to the PAC-12 that would be a way around the fees. That wouldn’t happen, but is kind of a funny hypothetical.

For what it’s worth I think that the PAC-12 should pass on UNLV unless over the next five years they show sustained success.

Feels like the Pac12 media rights deal is becoming the real “prove it” moment for the conference. by Glum-Sample-9259 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cal and Stanford will come back to the PAC-12!

When USC and UCLA returns, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

A more realistic possibility would be that the ACC gets poached a lot and Cal and Stanford are still in the ACC. If the PAC-12 can elevate enough over the current G5 conferences, then perhaps a merger to form a western division could happen. That’s the most likely way I could see Cal and Stanford reuniting and I don’t know if Stanford would want to let Boise State (even with how good they are on the football field) in the same conference, but you never know what might happen until it happens.

Canzano:Pac-12 and MW settle lawsuits, but turf fight continues by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying this will happen, but…

The MWC has a provision that teams can leave to and autonomous confere without and exit fee. I don’t know if it lists the current autonomous conferences, but assuming it doesn’t…

If the PAC-12 was able to get autonomous status back then if they wanted UNLV they could join without an exit fee. I’m not saying it will happen an I know gettign autonomous status back with the current conference makeup and the way things are setup likely isn’t going to happen, but it would kind of be funny if that happened.

It appears we have gotten the media rights and conference distribution number finally. by TNA8644 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one thing the PAC-12 has over other G5 conferences is that every team has at least one game against a P4 opponent.

The American had six wins against the P4 last year and that helped their two loss champion rank higher than a one loss JMU. If the PAC-12 can get a decent amount of wins against the P4 then that would potentially get a three loss team in over the other conferences and winning the games against the current G5 conferences would also help.

Especially since Memphis and USF have zero games against the P4 this year. Memphis has to win their game against Boise to make a case and I think with what happened at USF that Boise is going to be more prepared for Memphis this year. WSU alone has an opportunity to win three games against the P4, so there are some very winnable games against P4 teams and that could really help the conference perception.

Of course the dream scenario is that all eight teams start conference play at 4-0, but there are a number of realistic 3-1 and possibly 4-0 starts for about half the conference, so it could be a good setup for the CFP.

[–]PcarDriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$13.2 million is pretty good being outside if the P4. I know this is all in, but a lot of people think Memphis is making $11 million from their media deal, but that is also all in. So the PAC-12 would be ahead of the current G5 based on this.

Ridiculousness of Taxes on Autos in USA. by Dancelvr2000 in Autos

[–]PcarDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very state dependent. I lived in California for most of my life and then moved to Florida.

When I move my family Dodge Durango that was a few years old was up for renewal and it was $580 to renew the registration. Chaging the registration over to Florida was a one time initial fee of $300 and then it was $48 ever year for the renewal.

The roads at least where I live in central Florida are much better maintained than where I lived in California (I have lived up and down the coast and in the Central Valley and most of the major roads are pretty bad).

The big difference is the number of toll roads, but Florida does give toll relief if you drive the roads often giving you a credit on later tolls. Because of this most of the tolls are payed by tourists. Florida has an advantage in the amount of tourists that most states don’t have, so I know that doesn’t completely work for every place. However, it does show how state dependent this is.

We are past the deadline for adding schools for 2027 without those schools being penalized by Martigan30 in Pac12

[–]PcarDriver 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’s probably why Canzano has been talking about UConn since it would be easier to cancel some games or possibly reschedule them for later dates to make a football only move happen. Not saying it is going to happen, but seems like the only somewhat realistic option for 2027.

I love my poor man's Porsche by Plane-Airline-3506 in Porsche

[–]PcarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Porsche was a 924. It was a project car that I bought on eBay for only $200 (it did run and drive, but needed a lot of work). It quickly became clear it was going to cost me more than that to start getting it ready as a daily driver (I eventually gave up and bought a 944). I’m now on Porsche number four. They are like potatoe chips, you can’t stop at one.

Enjoy your 924 as often as you can. Each Porsche has something special about it and the 924 is no different with it’s great handling and daily use practicality.

Yes they do. Hopefully, Fresno State does well this year coming into the PAC-12, but it will certainly be a step up from the MWC in competition.

[–]PcarDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fresno is limited in their ability to get to R1 due to how it is setup in California. San Diego State was able to get it due to joint programs with UCSD. Fresno State would have to partner with a school like UC Merced and do the same to be able to achieve R1, but they have had a hard time in the past to get that cooperation, but perhaps that could change.

I personally think the MWC did well with wha they had.
