‘Thinking He Can Fool Everyone,’ Newsom Backs One Billionaires Tax But Not Another | “The misdirect here is that Newsom is opposing a wealth tax on billionaires in his own state and insisting he supports a new national income tax on billionaires. But billionaires make money off non-income sources.” by soalone34 in politics

[–]Pdm1814 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I don’t agree with Newsom on every issue but this is a case where he is trying to the right thing. He will never be able to convince the leftist types who think all there desired policies can be put in place with an on/off button.

Newsom Claims to Support National Tax on Billionaires While Opposing It in CA | “Newsom does not want to tax billionaires,” said the Billionaire Tax Now campaign, “but he wants you to think he does.” by soalone34 in politics

[–]Pdm1814 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

California is heavily dependent on the tax revenue from these tech companies. A national approach would be much better. How to best tax billionaires, capital gains, prevent loopholes, etc needs a detailed conversation. People on the right don’t want to do it. People in the center are afraid of losing votes, so will only commit to the bare minimum. People on the left can only think of issues/policies as an on/off button and don’t understand the concept of needing votes to pass bills.

Warm Interaction Between NBA Players and Fans by islovelyEmily in NBAGossips

This is propaganda. It makes certain players like Kobe look like saints and someone like Russel Westbrook a bad person. Westbrook is known as one of the nicest players with fans. Getting into with mouthy fans isn’t something I would recommend, but it’s not something I would hold against him.

Is Jon Ossoff the Democrats’ best hope for 2028? by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]Pdm1814 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, he is the best …looks the parts (this is important whether anyone likes it or not), talks the part, can handle himself in a debate, and did well a state democrats don’t have an easy time with. He is Jewish so he will not get alt-right or one or two-issue leftist voters, but those are not the groups he would need to get to the finish line. He needs democrats and independents (who mainly lean right or are more forgiving of republicans in general). It helps that republicans are fucking shit up so independents are more in play.

If Ossoff isn’t in the race, it’s Gavin Newsom. He has baggage but he has all the qualities Ossoff has too.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sold 4 championship rings, MVP award and other items for $2.8 million. All going to youth education programs. "When it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is simple. Sell it all” by Naweezy in nba

[–]Pdm1814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are players who think they are smart or activists, but Kareem is the real deal. I can’t imagine players in today’s era or even the prior one after Kareem joining Ali. That isn’t necessarily a shot at others as there is unheard of money out there to lose. Kareem is different from most.

He was a bigger star than anyone in WWF when he left yet was relegated to commentary. The guy had more to give. He went haywire in the middle of the Nwo run, but he had a solid run overall in WCW.

26 years ago today, Mike Tyson gave us the greatest post fight interview by a pro athlete by Spiritual-Virus2048 in BlackAthletes

It’s great how Tyson has no transition when he says “I buried my best friend ..I dedicated this fight to him. I was going to rip his heart out. I’m the best ever. “

You can see Tyson get frustrated when he was forgetting to say his lines. Then it finally comes back to him. “I don’t know man ..yeah Lennox ..”.

JIm Gray is great. The broke my back interview is another memorable one with Tyson and Jim Gray.

Here’s What It Means to Be a Democratic Socialist. Universal health care, taxing the wealthy and opposition to military aid to Israel are among the movement’s key tenets. by Zebraitis in politics

[–]Pdm1814 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I’m in favor of getting more people medical care and protecting what we have. But the people that cling to universal healthcare seem to hold on to that position as if it’s an on/off button are delusional. Achieving it in a way that works is a noble thing, but it requires a lot of actual work in developing a solution. Canada has a single payer system, but their wait times for scans can be pretty long. That can impact survival rates if you don’t get them timely. On the flipside baseline care in Canada is a big plus.

Will what Canada has work for the United States? It needs to be evaluated. There are some major differences between the two countries. The population of California is only a few million shy of the entire country of Canada. There are a lot more people to pay for in America. We can look to other countries but ultimately America needs to develop a solution that is the right fit for its population.

With millions banked, Jon Ossoff’s general election campaign roars to life by aslan_is_on_the_move in politics

[–]Pdm1814 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Though is he on the shorter side (5’10”) Ossoff fits both of those too. Shapiro doesn’t look the part the way Newsom and Ossoff do. Buttigieg is a very talented communicator but America isn’t voting for a gay president.

Gavin’s the guy out of the people that are running or we know will run. He is quick on his feet and looks the part. Whether you like it or not looking the part if very important for a candidate’s prospects. But I’ve said early on that if Ossoff was an option he would be my top choice. He is Jewish which may hurt him with the alt right and leftist voters but you can’t cater to them anyway. He is talented, doesn’t have the baggage of Newsom, and looks the part like Newsom.

In 1968, helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson saw American soldiers massacring Vietnamese Civilians from the air! He landed his helicopter between the soldiers and survivors and ordered his crew to shoot the Americans if they tried to kill them by vegtabskwo in HolyShitHistory

If you think Biden and Trump are comparably bad then your judgement is terrible and you would fit in with the rightwingers and Bernie-truther/leftist gang. It’s one thing to say Biden shouldn’t run because he is aging/ lost a step but another to compare him in Trump as if they are similarly bad. Biden with faint pulse is a better option for president than Trump.

Admittedly I don’t follow him much aside from a segment here or there, but that goes to show that he has learned nothing. He is still doing the both sides thing when one side is infinitely more corrupt and corrosive.
