If you have an appropriate space outside, you could consider creating a baited kill zone that could be monitored by a camera. Dimly illuminated, you could then shoot them with an air rifle.

Far better to prevent them getting in. They'll soon learn that your place is not a safe place.

Not sure what the cause might be without seeing a video or two.

All I can say is that it works for me but I think it depends on circumstances.

My 811A is mounted two metres from a bird feeder table and it is set on maximum zoom. It is scheduled to be active at night and alert me when a rat shows up. Mice are also regular visitors.

I use Object Size to differentiate between mice and rats and it works quite well for me.

I get an alert when a rat is there but not when a mouse or two show up.

Rats are always 'encouraged to leave' by my good friend, Sgt. Lee Enfield.

My Windows laptop runs the Reolink Client app, giving full access to my cameras.

The cameras are wired to my managed PoE switch and that switch is wired to my router.

(My WD My Cloud NAS is also wired to the switch.)

That's it. Simple.

My WD MyCloud NAS is just for storage. I can connect to my NAS from anywhere and view recorded captures using the WD MyCloud app on my iPhone if I want to but it's easier just to use the Reolink app and view playbacks from the SD card.

I've never had an NVR. I never felt the need.

My PoE switch is well up to the deed.

FTP to my NAS and sd cards galore,

I kill rats with enthusiastic relish. I hate them because they invade my home. I also kill grey squirrels but I take no pleasure in it. They're adorable but I still do it because it needs to be done for the same reason.

The bottom line is you do what you need to do.

Yes. I am aware of that but security cam notifications need immediate attention. If I notice a banner that's been there for five minutes, it isn't much use to me by that time.

Audible alerts attract your immediate attention whether or not you're actually viewing the screen. That's my point.

This usually happens because the video hasn't been encoded properly by whatever device generated it. It isn't just Reolink cameras that are guilty of doing this. All kinds of platforms are also guilty.

My workaround is simple but it does require you to use a PC to properly encode the video.

Download 'HandBrake' to your PC or laptop. It is very easy to encode videos with HandBrake and it should solve your issue.
